Twins and talking ...

Quick question for Mum's of twins (mine are just waking from their nap and don't like being left too long . Would love to know when yours started to talk - where they later talkers than your singletons? DTs are 21 months and are really saying very, very little - out, hat, there, that, yes and not much more. No Mummy, Daddy although one has maybe started to say Dada in the last couple of days. Is this normal? I seem to remember DS's had quite a good collection of words at this age. They do babble constantly and do converse with one another so it's not as if they're silent! Am i worrying unnecessarily? Better run but shall check back in a while. TIA

My twins were slower to talk than their older sisters had been. I think it was a combination of less individual attention and less incentive as they had a constant companion who understood what they meant without many words! Their speech was less distinct too at the age of 2 - strangers would say 'What did she say?' whereas my older 2 were totally clear. However by the time they went to nursery at 3 there were no concerns as they had caught up.

Thanks for the reply l39 .... reassuring to say the least!! I think ours rely on the rest of the family to intrepret their babblings just a little too much!

ds was quieter than his sister but formed his words well.

dd talked a lot but had/has a slight speech impediment in that she can't form certain sounds - this was due to her only being diagnosed as partially deaf at aged 8/9 rather than a twin thing.

so my advice - don't worry
