Ruby, my DH has high blood pressure and we initially tried to control it with a low-salt diet but he ended up on medication anyway. He has a very healthy diet - lots of fresh fruit and veg, very low in fat (I hardly ever use anything except Fry Light in cooking) and high in protein and good carbs (I eat the same, but I supplement with more chocolate than him ). He was told a few months ago that he was on the verge of Type 2 diabetes and to start doing more exercise. We bought a cross trainer and using that 2 or 3 times a week combined with his healthy diet has brought his glucose levels right down to normal levels.

My lot had an INSET day today - back tomorrow . I have definitely had enough of the holidays .

Nice to see you FG...your house-warming/NYE parties sound great - where were our invites then?

Who's on for a multiples 'slim-a-thon' then? I want to lose at least a stone to get back down to my pre-wedding weight. We could cheer each other along and boost each other's will power when it wanes (ie every evening ). We wouldn't need to say what we weigh, just post each week how much we've lost...what d'y think?

Welcome to Monkeymargot. In answer to your questions:

Like HM, we have a Renault Grand Scenic, which is fab. It has isofix points in the front seat (with an airbag you can easily switch off) and 2 in the back. We didn't have it when the DTs were in baby seats, but had it with 3 stage 2 seats across the back (DD1 was only 20 months when the DTs were born) - we had isofix in each window seat and a Britax Renaissance in the middle. The 2 pop-up seats in the boot are very handy, particularly now the girls are older and we have friends round after school and when the seats are down, it's a massive boot - I think my record was 1 single buggy, 2 doubles and a £100 Sainsbury's shop . When we drove to France, we fitted everything in without needing a roof-box (and that's including a fortnight's worth of gluten-free bread, biscuits and pasta!).

Mine shared a crib in hospital and a moses basket when they came home. They moved on to separate moses baskets (we'd been lent a second one, I wouldn't have bought another) and then they shared a cot till they were about 4 months when they started hitting each other. They went into their own room when they were about 5.5 months.

I had an elective CS at 37+4, as my DTs were id and shared an amniotic sac, so quite a high risk birth, although I had been told I could try for a natural birth if I'd gone into labour before then. It was actually a very positive experience and I was up and about very quickly afterwards without any of the difficulties holding the babies or DD1 afterwards.

Blimey, a marathon post - I'm off now to make the tea .

Hi tkb...I'm up for a slim-a-thon, I need to lose 5lbs...not loads I know, but it will mean I can fit into my size 12s again! Have started my no booze on a school night programme which went fine yesterday...only 4 more nights to go! Not that thats something you would struggle with I know, but I do like my wine! I really wanted to get out running over the Xmas hols but its been too snowy and icy to even contemplate it plus I've had a cold for 2 weeks that still hasnt bloody gone away so it might have to wait a bit longer for the exercise to kick in!

terrible twos x 2 is hard work

MonkeyMargot · 04/01/2010 20:30

Hmmm, nuts, chocolate and wine. A heady culinary combo indeed.

Well thanks everyone for your detailed responses to my "twins for dummies" questions. Really appreciate that.

First day back at work today. It really sucked. Missed DD1 after having had 2 weeks at home. Sure I'll get back into the swing. Also felt v.self-conscious of my enormous belly. (haven't told my boss yet as he was in a mtg all day today). Everyone prob thinks I was a real porker over Xmas .

shabba We don't know each other very well yet, but all I can say is never stop dancing lady...

shabbapinkfrog · 04/01/2010 20:35

Monkey - I dont intend to - Im staying 17 in my head for the rest of my life....they will have to nail my coffin lid down - that I can promise

MonkeyMargot · 04/01/2010 20:51

Ha ha. I love it Shabba. Good on you!

shabbapinkfrog · 04/01/2010 22:14

.....and down comes the soddin' snow AGAIN!!! We have had snow every day since about the 15th December - even Tom is bored with it. About an inch has fallen in the last hour. Tomorrow Dan and Emma are back at work after a long Christmas break and Lew is coming here - he is NOT a happy bunny think that tomorrow may be a bit of a challenge!

shabbapinkfrog · 05/01/2010 06:52

Morning girls - have woken up to at least 5 inches of snow on top of sheets of ice!! Brrrr! Now we begin the 'is school open or not' debate!! Not seen this much snow for many years x

SoleLundyFastnet · 05/01/2010 07:34

Morning Shabs!

Tis I, ZM

Long time no see! Just popping in to say a snowy 'hello' and share my excitement that the Zippettes have slept from 8ish-4am for FOUR nights in a row.

I feel almost human

Hope you had a lovely Christmas!

shabbapinkfrog · 05/01/2010 07:45

WOW that is amazing - Tom doesn't sleep that well and he is 12 years old

Christmas was good and my darling brother became a first time grandad on New Years Eve with the arrival of Grace Louise she is just beautiful and a pink one after 53 years of boys!!

No school today for Tom - he will be gutted we have had a few inches of snow overnight.

bagpuss · 05/01/2010 07:48

Yay well done Zippettes!

Shabs, just going through the same debate here. Dh not going into work so I am not doing the school run at least (provided it is open that is ).

HarrogateMum · 05/01/2010 08:34

school and nursery closed here....my one day to myself, got a docs appt for horrendous sinus pain and then hair appt for horrendous grey...if I cant go to them I will cry!

shabbapinkfrog · 05/01/2010 08:37

Just been to corner shop ROFL its about 7 inches deep and snowing like crazy!! No buses at all - it looks amazing but I just wish it would stop snowing now!

bagpuss · 05/01/2010 09:03

Our school is the only one in the local area that is open . Ds1 and dd1 are gutted but ds2 was quite happy. Dh has just taken them. The dcs old school is closed and so a lot of the neighbours dcs are just coming out to build snowmen - no wonder our older two were so upset really.

HM I hope you manage your appointments.

Shabs, that sounds nice but I know what you mean about the snow. Our pavements have been covered in thick ice for so long. Yesterday was hell taking the dts out in their pram because it is so bumpy. I struggled to get them wrapped up warmly enough tbh so am quite relieved dh has decided not to go to work and can take the older ones for me.

neenz · 05/01/2010 12:53

Hello! We have got masses of snow too and it never snows here usually. I am not leaving the house, ever again

I am supposed to be back at work tomorrow but I am not going in with it like this, plus I feel crap with morning sickness/tiredness plus I am going the Man City v United semi final tomorrow night and I think a whole day at work then a footie match would be too much (just the footie match for me then ). There is rest room with a sofa at work where I can nap (they set it all up for me when I was PG with the twins ) so when I do go in I can go for a couple of hours' sleep when needed but I would be lucky to even get there in this weather so I am stopping home. Will still send the kids to the CM though and have a lazy day on my own .

Welcome MonkeyM, My DTs are 20mths now and I am 8wks PG (with just one this time hopefully). I had a natural birth as they were both head down, you have to keep an open mind but educate yourself about birth and then if they try to push you into something you don't want you can argue. Are yours identical or not? I think it's very different with id twins as TTTS is a factor. My twins shared a cot until about seven weeks then we separated them but as the other cot was in another room we just put one of them in the other room and it worked so well (we could leave them to cry a bit in the night instead of rushing in in fear that they would wake each other)> They are in the same room again now though, they chat to each other. It is very cute. We are looking for a new car - I think with three kids especially if you want isofix you have to go for a seven-seater.

I have got a mound of ironing to do

shabbapinkfrog · 05/01/2010 12:58

neenz they were talking on the Man City thingemebob on FB about the match being called off? Some bright spark said it was a good job because it would be too difficult a journey for the Man Utd fans - all that way from London

HarrogateMum · 05/01/2010 13:43

Well I made it....train into town, walk to docs, usual 10 second appointment before they diagnose penicillin, got prescription, walk into town to beg hairdresser for earlier appt....luckily no-one turned up for him so got in at 10.30...two hours where my head felt like it was in a vice and my eyes kept drooping, but now I am no longer grey again!! Walk back to train station, train, walk at other end....aaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhh.

But the vicar who lives at the end of our road had built an 8 foot snowman with his kids so that made me smile
