monkeymargot welcome to the thread. I found these wonderful ladies when I was expecting my dts, who've just turned 3! They are a mine of advice and gin support when needed. Like oogggs I went on to have another after my dts, so I have ds(6.11) dd(5.4) b/g dts(3) and ds3(21mths).

pixi - you are forgiven but only if we manage a meet up this year

MonkeyMargot · 03/01/2010 20:40

Wow derv78, it's great to find someone who has just gone through what we are going to go through. You sound very calm considering your DT's are less than a month old!! I also checked out your profile (am a nosy parker) and saw the huge birth weights of your boys - blimey!! I was under the impression that each twin would comprise roughly half the weight of a single baby. Clearly I am wrong (unless your DD was an 12 pounder?!)

oooggs and piximonkey. I am in awe of the sheer volume of offspring you both have. Good work! It's funny, I always wanted 3 DCs, but DH only wanted 2 (I am one of 3, he is one of 2). So now I have managed to beat the system....ha ha..

I'm going to be asking lots of very basic questions on this thread which you have probably seen countless times before (hope not to bore too much).
OK, a few logistical questions:
1). What cars can fit 3 childseats (with ISO-fix/Easy-fix bases) in the back?
2). Is it best for twins to share a cot from birth, then seperate at later stage into seperate cots?
3). Do your DT's still share a room?
4). How many of you had natural births with your DT's? I am really hoping to avoid a CS since I have given birth before. Not sure what the odds are of this happening?

Oh the ignorance of a first-time multiple mum...

piximonkeyingaround · 03/01/2010 20:57

Monkeymargot
1). I don't drive and know very little about cars. We have a 7 seater Toyota Lucida which we love. Some friends saw ours over xmas and although they only have 2dcs they are now wanting to buy one.

2). My dts shared moses basket to begin, then one cot for some time before having separate cots in the same room.

3). Mine only stopped sharing in Oct when we moved house and set up girls/boys rooms if they were same sex they would be sharing for foreseeable future. They rarely woke each other in the night and preferred being together.

4). I had natural birth, although dt2 was ventouse. Consultant was very supportive throughout.

piximonkeyingaround · 03/01/2010 21:02

oogggs I'm up for a meet whenever you like.

piximonkeyingaround · 03/01/2010 21:03

oooggs I am clearly not thinking straight tonight.

bagpuss · 03/01/2010 21:31

Hi all, and welcome monkeymargot . Three is a great number I think, well, I did until I had my dts 13 week ago today . I only joined the thread 6 months ago while I was pg. The ladies here have been a fantastic support to me during that time particularly when I was stuck in hospital when the dts decided to make their appearance 7 weeks early.

Re: your questions, I'm not sure many car manufacturers make 3 lots of isofix points in cars, the only that spring to mind are the Renault Scenic and the Honda FRV. We have a Ford S-Max which is plenty wide enough for three seats across the back, don't have bases for the dts seats sadly because the isofix points are helpfully located on the two seats that flip forward to allow access into the third row which we use (5 dcs).

My dts were in separate cots from birth (in SCBU ) but we chose to keep them that way when they came home as they were so used to it. They still share a room .

I didn't have a natural birth as both dts turned breech two days before I went into labour but I did have all my other dcs naturally. I do think that you should keep an open mind when it comes to delivering twins as it can depend very much on their position as to what happens in the end. Lots of the ladies on here have had natural deliveries though, so it is perfectly possible, especially as you've done it before .

Hi ruby, what sort of coffee machine did you get? We have been drinking gingerbread espressos all christmas from ours . Hope everyone enjoys the darts.

HM, we didn't have a tree this year owing to the dts stuff being in the way but I'm taking down all the other decs and cards tomorrow as soon as everyone is safely in school.

Must be off now, dt2 is stirring!

oooggs · 03/01/2010 22:03

A photo of the recent nursery photo now on profile!!! It isn't great

pixi - will give you a shoput when we are settled back at school

monkeymargot -

1). What cars can fit 3 childseats (with ISO-fix/Easy-fix bases) in the back?

You can in a C4, but with 3 children we had a Picasso and when dc4 arrived we changed to a C7 (love the electric sliding doors!!)

2). Is it best for twins to share a cot from birth, then seperate at later stage into seperate cots?

Ours shared until 5 mths (see last pic on profile) then two cots in same room

3). Do your DT's still share a room?

No we seperated them when they were about 18mths and ds1 moved in with us until the loft conversion was finished. They now all have their own rooms

4). How many of you had natural births with your DT's? I am really hoping to avoid a CS since I have given birth before. Not sure what the odds are of this happening?

I was induced at 38 weeks, I pushed for this as although the babies were fine, I wasn't, my asthma was so bad I could hardly walk or breathe. Not suprising as they were 6lb 14oz & 7lb 14oz so alot of weight.

The birth was great and the easiest. I still say now that they two of them together is easier than ds1

kathryn2804 · 03/01/2010 22:37

Hi monkeymargot

Not sure about cars, we're in the same dilemma but with twins and a new singleton on the way!

Mine shared a cot until about 3 mths when they started htting each other in their sleep and waking up!

Mine share a room (2 boys), they're 4 1/2. they love it so wouldn't dream of splitting them up yet. Plus new brother will also be in there after the first few months as no room elsewhere!

I was induced but progressed so slowly ended up with a emergency c-section. You do have to have an open mind, but there's no harm in pushing for what you want either! Am really going to try for a vbac this time!

Good luck with it

shabbapinkfrog · 04/01/2010 01:24

oooggs - not great? Your pictures are lovely. xxxx Night girls - 'cant sleep wont sleep!!'

I met my lovely Great niece today - Oh My Word she is so beautiful. Total opposite to all the boys she has a chubby face and thick black hair and a girl!!! Everybody had a hold and a cuddle and a oohhh and ahhhh!!! Lew was besides himself with jealousy He just wanted Tom - no-one else!! When Tom held Gracie Lou (thats what everyone is calling her) Lewis just sat and cried. Hard lesson when you are just 18 months and the centre of everyones universe.

My Mum and Dad came up as well. Awwwww my Dad held back his tears and didnt want to hold her - said he didnt know what to do with a little girl. He just sat looking at her and smiling. My Mum held her and talked quietly and cried on Gracie Lou's face.

My family are expanding!!

shabbapinkfrog · 04/01/2010 01:24

LOL I didnt mean the boys in our family are not beautiful - they are major cutie pies xxx

HarrogateMum · 04/01/2010 08:21

Monkeymargot - in answer to your questions:

  1. We have a Renault Grand Scenic which fits our second stage and two third stage in the back plus there are two pop up seats in the back..also definitely had space for two baby seats and an adult in the back when they were little.
  1. Mine never slept together, I mean I occasionally put them down in the same Moses basket in the daytime but they grew too big too quickly for that to be feasible! They stayed in our room until about 3 months and then went into cots in their own room and no. 3 they still share a room aged 5..dont plan to change that until they ask!
  1. I had a natural birth, well I was fully epidural'd up from early on but that was by the consultants recommendations. I had ventouse with them both though as I was so knackered after an hour's pushing!

Hope this helps!

shabbapinkfrog · 04/01/2010 08:48

Morning girls xx

Derv78 · 04/01/2010 11:21

Morning all.

Whilst my DTs have been sleeping I have managed (finally) to upload some photos on my profile. Haven't managed to rotate two of them though, so anyone who is having a wee peek might get a sore neck!!

Monkeymargot I had a C-section at 37week; because twins were MCDA there was a risk of twin to twin transfusion syndrome, and consultant was worried about this occuring acutely if I went into labour. I had wanted to try a vaginal delivery after having one with DD, but safety of babies came first, so section it was. Wasn't half as bad as I expected, and didn't feel as if I missed out in any way, which I had been worried about.

At the minute, we are sleeping the babies together in a crib, but we're hoping to get a cot soon, as crib is already a bit of a squash for them! they'll be co-sleeping in our room when we get cot sorted.

As for the weights, yeah, they were big!! Glad though, that they had those reserves behind them for their slightly early arrival. Wonder what they would've weighed if I'd got to term?!? (DD weighed 8lb8oz at term BTW)

WOW your DC are tall Rubester.

Im 4ft 11in and DH is just 5ft 4in so our poor kids dont really stand a chance Danny has made it to the dizzy heights of 5ft 10in and Tomster is much taller than Danny was at 12 so Im living in hope.

We are back to the 'I want to grow my hair long' thing with Tom - must admit he looks very cute with it longer - my brother took a pic of Tom holding Grace yesterday and Toms eyes are soooooo green on it - yummy!!

hullo

Happy Christmas
Jolly Hogmanay
A' the best for the year ahead and a' that

Ruby, my three don't go back to school until Thursday......3 full weeks

I think we might have holidayitis. I think we are (a) fed up of each other, (b) hating the pending return to 'normality', (c) wall to wall peed off with the snow, its still thick and (d) fat and lethargic. Its this time of year, I ache to make a change and make a difference but I ache with tiredness and can't get over the hill of domesticity. Another chocolate biscuit then

My brother goes back to Oz tomorrow
Our heating is broken for the second time this holiday

We had a party on Hogmanay.....we had to housewarm. It finished at 4.30am with the help of The Proclaimers and more than one or two Queen air guitar moments and cousins singing the entire catalogue of Dirty Dancing . The next one started at 7pm on NY's night and finished at 4.30am. I think the house is warmed nicely now . That will be why the heating thinks its ok to take an unauthorised dance of departure

SOMEONE SAVE ME FROM MYSELF!!!!! I need enthusiasm and a real smile, Miss Rigby's needs to go in for service.

shabbapinkfrog · 04/01/2010 13:56

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrumpstttttttttttter!!!

Hiya love!! How is your belly for spots? How are your piles for lovebites? How the very devil are you?

Great housewarming by the sounds of it!

I think my 'elastic' in my hip snapped on New Years Eve Must have been the jiving or running round the house giving Chellesters BIL a piggy back - one or the other thats for sure.

xxxx

MERLYPUSS · 04/01/2010 14:14

I let the DTs fall asleep in front of the tv in their buggies. How bad is that? They have been horrors since Friday and I have gone to bed each night with a splitting head ache. I am putting it down to the fact that they havent been to their clubs due to the xmas break, not that they are nearing 2. DT1 has a vile temper atm though.
