Just found out 3 babies in there.... in shock

Hi - I've just got back from an 8 week scan, to discover that there are 3 babies! One baby looked correct size and a clear heartbeat, but the other two were smaller and couldn't see heartbeats. This may be because they are further away and the internal scan couldn't get a good view. We have an appointment with the specialist on Thursday morning to get it confirmed, and see if any / all of the babies are viable.

We also have a DD who is nearly 2 years old. Blimey, life could be different than we'd envisaged....

Sorry, I'm not sure what advice I'm after, just in shock really. Anyone else got triplets and a 2 year old and find it the best thing in the world?!?!

Any news?

PDJames · 21/07/2010 14:14

Hi,

Am usually a lurker but hope you don't mind if I post here. Have just found out I am expecting triplets (already have a 20 month old DS.) I am in awe of CakeBuddy's composure (and wish her well if she has had the babies). My news is slowly beginning to sink in but am definitely in panic mode. Would love to hear from others who have lovely big families!

Hi Cakebuddy I've just found and read your thread and I am in awe of you. I'm the mummy of twins 6.8 and 2.8 singleton.

I have utter respect for triplets!

I love your attitude, it's so upbeat (definately the best way to be!)

Just thought I'd become an official lurker.

Hope all goes well, can't wait to hear your chosen cupcake names!

Congratulations PDJames

Margeaux · 21/07/2010 14:38

Congratulations PDJames!
How many weeks are you? How very exciting for you...and possibly a bit scarey too I should imagine! Do you know what you're having yet or is it early days?

I have had four singletons but hang around here in the hope that multiples could be catching

PDJames · 21/07/2010 21:42

Thanks for all the congratulations. I am seven weeks pregnant. Apparently two look "perfect" for this stage and one, although ok at the moment, is a bit of a cause for concern so we really don't know what will happen. Will be re-scanned soon. Scary is definitely the word! Am very much in shock.

Hello! I am sooooo sorry for not coming on mumsnet sooner to update on the cupcakes progress - I did try a few weeks ago but a baby woke mid post and I never managed to finsh. So here goes...

The cupcakes are here!! Arrived safely at 32+2 weeks after I had been in hospital for 4 weeks on bed rest (that's another story!) and were delivered by emergency c-section on Mothers Day March 14th. How anyone chooses c-section more than once is a mystery to me - bloody hell it was painful and I would rather have pushed them all out if given the choice. Sorry to say it, and I know everyone has a very different experience but personally I was bent double like a banana for days!

Alice Maria @ 1300g
George Richard @ 1900g
Milly Ava @ 1600g

The babies were in intensive care for 4 days and then transfered to SCBU until they came home at 5 weeks old, on DH's birthday!

Now 4 months old (2 months 'adjusted age') are growing well and all the minor health issues that were identified at birth have been resolved (Milly was thought to have heaing problems and George and Alice both had holes in their hearts). They have been scanned, tested and double checked more times than a double-checked-thing!

And how has life been since? Exhausting, check. Overwhelming? Hell yeah! The most incredible and terrifying thing we've ever done? Abso-blinking-lutely!

We have managed to drop the 11pm and 3am feeds so are typically in bed by 10pm once everyone is settled, and although they often still wake in the night a dummy will solve the crying; they take turns to sleep until 6am and have all synchronised TWICE for a full nights sleep - so I know they can do it. Happy days are on their way!

We are lucky to have lots of help from both mums (v. proud grandmas!) and friends, plus we've found some amazing people willing to help out. I went through a very unhappy stage when DH first went back to work after 3 weeks at home together, and was in quite a dark place. But we're out the other side now and fortunately much happier and able to count the blessings in our lives once more. It was just such a shock to have our lives change so dramatically in such a short period of time - and not directly by choice.

Big sister DD1 is being an absolute angel and is my shining star. It was truly horrific being separated from her for the 4 weeks while I was in hsopital, but fortunately we had nearly 4 weeks together at home before the babies were released so she didn't associate my absence with their birth and she has accepted them totally. She kisses them good morning and good night, is highly skilled in dummy replacement and is the best in the house at getting them to smile. Especially George who is a real cool cookie and smiles with a cheeky grin to earn him the nickname 'Fonzie'!

I'm sure there are a hundred things I wanted to tell you that I've forgotten about, so I'll try and come back soon! Thank you all for your lovely messages while I was MIA!

P.S. Did I tell you that we change approx 25 nappies a day?!

Huge congratulations to you. Sorry can't help with triplet advice. I've got twins age 2 and an older one (19 month gap).

muminthecity · 28/07/2010 18:40

Congratulations! You sound like you're doing an amazing job, so pleased to hear that all three babies are happy and healthy

triplets · 22/08/2010 23:31

Hi Cakebuddy............how did I miss you on here..........er perhaps its because I have triplets:o I have 2 boys and a girl, they are now 12yrs old, life atm is harder now than when they were babies!! I loved every minute of it, used to stand just watching them all asleep in their cots, amazed that they were mine. It is hard work their is no denying, but it is such an amazing experience, just lovely. Mine too were born at 32/2, Rebecca was 4lb 2oz, Thomas was 4lb 7oz and James was 2lb 15oz, now the boys are exactly the same in height and weight. If ever you need an ear, I`m here! xx
