Slowed growth in one twin

Hi Ladies

Apologies if this topic has been covered before...

I am 27 weeks pregnant with non-id twin boys. I was being scanned every 4 weeks, but at the 24 week scan, they found that twin 2's growth had slowed. He is still within normal limits, but not growing at the rate he should. Twin 1 has always been bang on the 50th centile, twin 2 was on the 5th last time and 10th this time (he had previously been nearer the 50th as well). I know scans are not always completely accurate, and i am seeing the consultant again on Monday, but i was just wondering if others have had these worries, and if growth can pick up again, and, in your experiences, at what point they may decide to get them out?

Many thanks.

P.S Also looking forward to chatting to some other twin mums & twin mums to be!! (I really should have made my way over here before now...

Hi Madoldbird - I'm currently going through this. 34 weeks tomorrow with boy/girl twins. At 28 week scan they thought she was looking a bit small (surprisingly as he has a two vessel cord which can cause growth problems so was the one we thought we should keep an eye on). By 32 week scan she had dropped well below but was in a bad position so they couldn't get all the measurements anyway. Had steroids administered last week in case of need for early delivery. Doppler scan and CTG yesterday all fine and babies both moving a lot and finally got to see a consultant who said the scan measurements are just one thing to take into account. She recommended 2 x weekly CTGs, repeat growth scan next week and then an appointment with her to try and pull it all together and hatch a plan next Thursday. Feel a lot better about it all now. I've had a few replies regarding this type of thing on my post a few down on Wobble after 32 week scan if you want to check that out - not techy enough to be able to sort the link out. Good luck with your next scan.

Thanks ladies

magnunmum good luck with your appts on Thursday. I'll check out that thread of yours, thank you, and keep any eye on your news!

Am seeing the consultant this afternoon, so hopefully it will be a case of continued monitoring.

Hey Madoldbird - how did you get on? Our CTGs/dopplers/scans etc all ok and she has had a growth spurt so now both ok which is a huge relief. Will only be truly happy once they are here but I'm a bit less stressed about it all now. Hope your appointment was ok?
