Very heavy bleeding five weeks after c-section for twins

Hi all

I was hoping someone might be able to help. I had my twins by c-section just over five weeks ago. I bled up until a few days ago and then it stopped so all I had was a clear discharge.

However today I started bleeding really heavily - soaking a pad in an hour or so, with some small dark clots too. Is this normal? I had vaginal births for singleton babies before so I have no idea.

Please help I am v. worried about this as I also developed a sharp, pain just above my scar at the same time.

I remember my first period after having my twins being a nightmare. I rang the doc who said it was because of my womb being stretched so much to accomodate two babies. She gave me some tablets to take and things were fine afterwards. Not sure if this might apply to you. Best phone for some advice. Hope you feel better soon.

Get checked out for infection. How do you feel in yourself? Temp.? feint? shivery? tired? (twins? course you're tired!) but I mean unreasonable tired?

Are you BF?

I'd phone for advice. Soaking a pad in an hour sounds a bit on the heavy side.

I don't really know...but think you should phone. Any bleeding you should check out, just to put your mind at ease...

Get some advice from a Dr, just to be on safe side. Even if all is does is put your mind at rest. Did you have two placenta's or was it identicals? I had non identicals and two placentas so it was explained I'd have twice the bleeding, although it didn't really start until about a week after the birth. Apparently they wash you out after a section, who knew?

My DT's are 14wks (I had one VB and one by section) and I had heavy bleeding. My first period after having them was also very heavy. Must admit in those first few weeks it was a shock to see so much blood and lumps but showed midwife and was reassured it wasn't anything to be worried about.

I had very heavy bleeding after my c-section and was still bleeding 6 weeks after the birth. I mentioned it to my GP at my 6 week check and she discovered I had an infection. It cleared up after a course of antibiotics. I think heavy bleeding after twin births is q normal (what a bonus, eh?!) but def worth getting checked - maybe at your 6 week check up? Good luck.

Deffo get it checked out, to be on the safe side...

Bmum1 how are you?

Hi

Thanks for all your advice. I phoned the consultant who delivered the twins and he said it was normal. I had a swab done the week before by the GP to rule out an infection as I was still bleeding five weeks after the section, so it isn't that, just another joy of having twins.

It's a bit better today anyway, still bleeding quite a lot, but not soaking a pad every time I stand up!
