Mirror imaging

I have mirror image id boys. One is left handed, the other right. Their hair whorls go in opposite directions. One has a mole on his right eyebrow, the other one the same on his left! The most bizarre thing is that one doesn't feel the cold and the other cant go out in Winter without balaclava, scarf and gloves!! Does anyone else have experience of extreme opposites like this?

My girls are the same - left and right handed. The hair thing really blows me away! When I part their hair for pigtails the parting kinks in a little triangle, exactly the opposite way to each other.

Mine are also opposite in everything, though I'm sure this can't be connected! One eats veges and one doesn't, one likes sweet and the other savoury.

ID twins are such an interesting experiment in nature/nurture. They have both been weaned on exactly the same foods in the same environment. Shows you how much of us is hardwired, rather than shaped by our upbringing.

Fascinating, isnt it? Does any one know what causes these differences?

It's the way the single egg has split in half - they are the mirror image of each other.

Apparently it depends on how long it takes the embryo to split. If very early, you don't get mirror image twins. But if it splits later, when the embryo has started to develop right/left characteristics, then you get mirror image twins.

Another wierd thing happened last night. DT1 woke up in the night with growing pains in his right leg. An hour later DT2 woke up complaining of the same pains in his left leg!! Spooky!

wow, cb, that's amazing!

coochybottom · 02/12/2008 18:08

Has anyone else had experience of "spooky" goings on with their twins?

What I think is really fascinating is that, though identical, one is exactly like my partner (personality wise) and one is exactly like me! Every time we get a new developmental stage, it just reinforces this fact!!!

I think mine are mirror image. One is def left handed and one right.

coochybottom · 03/12/2008 01:47

That is true of mine too! DT1 just like me, DT2 just like DH! I rememeber an elderly lady at the hospital saying, "Oh twins, one for each of you!". Think she was right. [snile]
