PBH I am sending you all my best wishes. If you are bored and need to talk you can also call. Just ask for my ph num. It will all go fine...Keep your calm.

TALLULAHBELLE · 22/11/2008 09:43

Good luck to Fran & PBH.

anjlix · 23/11/2008 19:17

Hey mums, I hope I can get some reassurance here. I am 32+4 today and at 32w both babies measured 4lb each. Since last evening I have been feeling constant tightness in my upper abdomen (the sides) and my back. Any one else has any experience with this? It does not feel like contractions but just a constant tightness. I don't think it is gas either.

A bit of background. My family is known to deliver really small babies at 5 lb - 5 lb 12 oz max. May be it is my stomach muscles expanding? It is quite uncomfortable. I hope I get a break from it...

Reassurance needed! Thanks

twinmam · 23/11/2008 20:39

Hey anjlix I had a similar thing from quite early on - maybe 26 weeks? Not really contractions as such because the tightness lasted for longer (hours) although it did go and come back again and sometimes seemed related to me being tired or stressed. Mentioned them to my consultant who said they could be Braxton Hicks. We never really got to the bottom of it and I never went into prem labour. Had DDs by C Sec at 34 weeks - 4 lb 4 oz and 4 lb 7 oz after getting pre-eclampsia and cholestasis (neither of which had anything to do with the tightness I hasten to add)! The longer the pregnancy went on the more and more uncomfortable I got - it is def a tight fit in there! Hope that helps with the reassurance bit BUT would ALWAYS say - if you ever feel worried at any point about anything at all you should ring your delivery suite. Give them a ring just to put your mind at rest - they might want you to go in just to keep an eye on you. Your babies are great weights for 32 weeks. Best of best luck to you x

accessorizequeen · 23/11/2008 21:51

No news from Fran?
PBH, hope all alright.
Anjlix, doesn't sound like a problem to me, but if you're concerned of course ring someone!

Mel, bought a double carrycot for £68 plus p&p so quite pleased with that - a new style one in red. I think I'll get at least 2 months out of it and hopefully sell it on for most of what I paid for it. I'm hardly putting them in the MB now because they seem so uncomfortable in the single cots so can't wait to get it and bet you can't wait to use yours. How many weeks are you now?

mel2005 · 23/11/2008 22:03

hi AQ,
thats great!!! i am 33+ weeks now and would love to see them cuddled up in the carrycot. i keep wondering if i will have another red head as my little girl has curly red hair (comes from my DH). i just want them out safe and sound. only a few weeks left now.

i have just invested in some re-usable tots bots nappies as i have been calculating how much i can save. now i have a tumble dryer and they do coloured ones (all my other ones went grey in the past) i am going to try to save some money and the environment.

anjlix - my belly is constantly feeling really tight. sometimes i feel it along my back as well. i think they are just getting alittle squashed and when they move into a different postition it makes the skin stretch. if you are worried call and ask the midwife/consultant.

accessorizequeen · 23/11/2008 22:12

Hey Mel, 33 weeks is fantastic given you were so worried about bleeds etc. I'm hoping for a red head too as I am one (albeit faded) as are both my parents. I'll have to wait and see once it all falls off and then grows back - they're both going bald at the moment, so sweet . I've been using some cloth on both of them day and night, would use it all the time but don't have enough wraps at present. Not finding it a hassle really with the 3+ loads of washing I'm doing anyway!

mel2005 · 23/11/2008 22:23

how many wraps do you think i will need? i have ordered 34 nappies so far but am looking for a few secondhand ones to top it up. i have also ordered a couple of wraps and am keeping my eyes open for good deals i am also hoping to get some secondhand ones as well. i think they will be way to big at first so will use disposables at first.
i really cant believe i have got this far after all the scares. i am trying to take it really easy as i want to at least make the 34 week mark and then every day is a bonus.

accessorizequeen · 23/11/2008 22:50

Yep, 34 weeks would be fab. Have you decided on section or not yet?

I've normally had 4 or 5 wraps for ds2 at each stage, so I reckon 8 or 10 for dt's would be more than enough, some people manage with less. I have quite a lot of newborn nappies like XS sandies but now they're a bit bigger (9lb each) they need small wraps. The Tots wraps are nowhere near as good as motherease or other brands, I've found. I've used the XS wraps on top of disposables for ds3 for a few weeks now as they leaked otherwise (he's filled out now though with all the endless feeds!)/

They both slept a 7 hour stretch last night, in fact I woke dd up so she might have gone longer. See, dt's don't have to mean no sleep! Course I was up late and didn't get 7 hours, but doesn't matter

mel2005 · 24/11/2008 08:22

because one is transverse/breech i asked for a section and the consultant said they want me to have a natural one and they will just put their hand in and pull him out. she then went on to say about people having bladder or bowel damage with a section and having to wear colostromy (sp??) bags for a few weeks and an operation to repair it. the books say that this is rare. i think she was just against sections. a consultant who i saw a few weeks ago said if they were not both head down he would recommend a section, i agree with him. i have been having quite a few BH contractions and they are now making me feel sick so i am not sure how long i have.
the car is in for the second attempt at the air bag key today so i will let you know how good it is when i get the car back.

GettingBiggerBird · 24/11/2008 10:02

Morning everyone

Can't wait to hear the news from Fran. Hope you're feeling better Anjlix - I have had a few tightenings but nothing quite like that, but doesn't sound unusual from everyone else.

I had a horrid Saturday - up in the night with food poisoning and couldn't even keep water down, the delivery suite told me to come in for checks which took 5 hours. I felt so weak and wobbly and was terrified they'd want to induce but it all turned out all right in the end. So home by the early evening, but having got my appetite back yesterday, I've discovered I now have really bad heartburn. OMG, I had no idea how painful it was - thought I'd had it before but nothing like this. 35+5 now, bring it on.

Mel so glad you're still hanging on in there!

Hi ladies - Just returned from my 32 week scan. Both babies are head down at the moment which is fab! I hope they stay that way!! They weigh 4lb 2 and 4lb 4 approx which is lovely to know. The hospital have also given me a date for induction at 38 weeks of 02/01/09. How scary is that!! I really hope I go into labour naturally though. I had an induction before with my first son which was fine but it is so much nicer being at home!! I have got some raspberry leaf tea in my cupboard. Can anyone remember when it is safe to start drinkning it? I swear it worked for me when I was pg with my second son.

Am looking forward to hearing about the impending new arrivals from Fran but it also reminds me how close I am! Its a bit scary!!!

anjlix · 25/11/2008 11:51

Hi all, thanks for the reassurance. The tightness went away in one day. Did some strectches, relaxation and had a hot shower and was feeling better. Looks like every one else is doing well.

Pheonixnights it seems so unreal that you have a date. My consultant wont even hear about one.

mel2005 I agree with you on that one. If both heads are not down, it is not worth it. Stick to your guns.

I am looking to finish some last minute shopping from mothercare. Will have to be done on line since I cant stand the pelvic pressure for too long while standing...

Frangipani74 · 26/11/2008 15:58

Hi all, babies are here. I am now mummy to two beautiful little girls, Eleanor, (6lb13) and Isabel (6lb11). I am completly elated and exhausted all at the same time. It's so wonderful; giving birth to them was one of the hardest but most precious things I've experienced in my life.

My waters broke early hours thurs am, I was allowed after a check up to stay at home till Fri am, to see if things might start off, but as no contractions had to have membranes ruptured. After few hours contraction came on so fast and furious it was really hard to stay calm and relaxed as I'd hoped. They were both here within 6hrs 30mins. Was able to deliver both naturally with gas and air - not quite as impressive as it sounds, I was begging for epidural, but had already got to 9cm, so too late! 2nd baby who has been breech for last few weeks, did a last minute turn with out the consultant even noticing, (despite that fact that he was scanning me), so both arrive head first. Although at the time I was questioning the wisdom of trying to do it all naturally, wondering what on earth had made me think I could cope, it couldn't really have gone any better.

My body feels a bit like it's falling apart but all is wonderful. I haven't had a chance to read rest of thread, will do soon. Hope everyone is doing well and look forward to hearing who will be next.

Frangi - many congrats. Sounds like it all went wonderfully. How clever of your wee one to turn at last moment. Very encouraging. There's hope for me yet.

accessorizequeen · 27/11/2008 21:41

Fran and Jenny, huge congrats & well done!!!! Welcome to the world of real life twins .

Anjlix, you must be next??

Merry, are you coming back, I'll have to stalk you by email if you don't appear back soon...

Life's looking up with my dt's, the first 6 weeks really hard but they're nearly 9 weeks now and gorgeous. Got weighed today and they're 10lb 7oz and 10lb 10oz, very healthy and my little man has nearly caught up his bigger but younger sister!

Got my mb carrycot, Mel (and anyone else who's going for a MB), it's red and absolutely gorgeous they have so much space in there although dd keeps rolling over to get closer to her brother, bless her.So much nicer than the individual carrycots.

mel2005 · 29/11/2008 08:58

congratulations fran and jenny.

i have reached my target 34 WEEKS!!!!!! YEHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My next target is 36 weeks. trying to take it easy.

i have just found out that i can claim £30 each baby back from my local council for buying re-usable nappies. how great is that???!!!! it means i will save even more money and have the added bonus of being able to sell them on afterwards. i now have 35 new nappies and 21 pre-used ones in size 1 with about 10 wraps. i think that should be enough.

AQ your twins are doing really well, i cant wait for mine to be cuddled up together. i finally got the air-bag key fitted and my little boy liked sitting in the front but kept touching all the buttons on the dash. now he is in the back seats as he decided he liked it better back there. it is a pain getting the seat belt on though.

i had a huge argument with my little boys nursery teacher about the autism thing. he has been seen by the health visitor and the doctor who both state that he is normal and both have said we should move him to a different nursery. the doctor even said the problem probably is that he is bored and not being challenged enough and there is something not right about his teacher.
when i told the teacher that both the doctor and health visitor said they could see no reason to refer him as he was normal for a 4 year old, she demanded that i get a written report for her. i couldnt believe it!!! she has no rights to demand anything!!! she doesnt even have any qualifications in special needs and hasnt got a clue what she is doing. we had a huge argument infront of alot of other mums. i threatened to go to the headmaster and left. i did cry alot on the way back in the car. mainly out of frustration for my little boy. i am lucky i didnt go into labour i was so upset at the incident. i am handing in our terms notice and both of my children have now started at the surestart in our village on the days they are not at the other nursery. the ladies there are lovely and when our terms notice is up they will both go there every day. at least i will not have to drive and transfer babies in and out of the car every day as its only 10 mins walk away. i love my little boy to bits and if there was a problem i would be the first to get him help but the only problem he has is having a tantrum if he cant get his own way/or cant do something. also he does get hyper when given cheap squash/ things with colourants in (sweets), which they have been giving him , even though i have requested they dont.
sorry i just needed to unload.

GettingBiggerBird · 29/11/2008 19:50

Mel huge congratulations on getting to the 34 week mark, that's great when you've been so worried. But sorry you've had the teacher stress, sounds a nightmare.

I had a lovely pregnancy massage today, and the therapist started working my induction points - a very odd sensation as I could feel the babies reacting and my bump tightening. Nothing to get excited about as yet but it did make me think this might happen sooner rather than later. Then had a very naughty bad mummy afternoon watching films with DD, just couldn't bring myself to go out in the cold. Howw's everyone else?
