Congrats for making it so far 1stMrsF. The highest risk period is behind you. I hope your twins do move to the right position so you can birth naturally. Even if that does not happen there is an active c-section thread on multiple birth. You can check to see what is expected and perhaps avoid the avoidable.

1stMrsF · 20/04/2009 19:43

Thank you anjlix for the thread link - the stories there are really helpful.

My elective section is now booked for 1st May (at 38+1). Timing means I will also be in hospital for DH's 50th birthday, to add insult to injury, but at least we have a date to aim at now and what a fantastic birthday present I am giving him .

poorbuthappy · 22/04/2009 21:08

Hello all!
Just to let you know that Gwen and Nia have finally passed the 10lb mark at 20 weeks - Gwen is 10 4 and Nia is 10 1.
Hope everyone is well!

accessorizequeen · 23/04/2009 11:16

Well done PBH!
MrsF, I'm sure you feel relieved that it's booked but nervous too

mel2005 · 30/04/2009 22:38

hi all, hope you are all ok. been a bit quiet on here, bet you are all out enjoying the sun.

oscar is now heavier than alice 11lb 12oz and 11lb 7oz.
we have had the sickness/flu bug and alice was the worst alice did lose some weight this week. harriet was sick all over the carpet in the shop at the local zoo, they were really nice about it. they think i am mad taking all four out on my own. we have a great time now we are used to doing it, my eldest has really grown up and is being very helpful. it has helped that we are on an aspartamine free diet now, he has really calmed down. within a week he was a different child.
the twins are real little characters now alice is trying to talk to me, its really funny and oscar just laughs at everything and does a funny little thing with one eyebrow to wooo the ladies. oscar loves the 'worm at the bottom of the garden'song, when i sing wiggly he bursts out laughing! its great!.
we have second jabs tomorrow so i am getting ready for tears times two again.

1stMrsF · 05/05/2009 21:00

Amelia Carys and Georgiana Bronwen were delivered by elective c-section at 14.06 and 14.07 on Friday 1st May at 38+1. Millie weighed 7lb 6.5oz and Georgie 6lb 12oz

We got home yesterday and I feel physically like a truck ran over me and emotionally like nothing I have ever felt before or can adequately describe - proud, a enormous sense of achievement, happy to the point of slight hysteria and overwhelmed with love for these perfect little people.

We are all doing quite well so far. Millie didn't feed well to start with and had to be mix fed - subsequently it was found she had a tongue tie and that was corrected today - she's feeding better already and I hope we will be able to increase the breast feeds and cut back on the top ups. Georgie is feeding well. I'm very tired - nights in the hospital were very difficult even though the ward staff were helpful, you've still got two babies to care for, and I'm really glad to be at home with DH.

Back soon when I have more time, must sleep now while babies are sleeping...

magnummum · 06/05/2009 17:56

Congratulations once again Mrs F on gorgeous names and fab (though I don't think I could cope with cooking mine up to those) weights. Glad to hear you are all home safely and look forward to hearing about the East Surrey experience!!

accessorizequeen · 06/05/2009 19:52

Well well well, congrats MrsF - fantastic news! Well done you Fab weights and gorgeous names. Keep posting for support if you can, those early weeks are a killer I know.

Mel, good to hear things going so well. Still can't face spending a day with all my 4 on my own, perhaps when ds2 older (he's 2.4) and luckily I never have to. I do love it when the dt's interact with each other and the other dc's. I'm really loving having both twins on my lap at the mo, just having a cuddle.

anjlix · 07/05/2009 14:21

Many congrats 1stMrsF. Great size for your two. Welldone! Also very nice to hear BFing is going well. You know the experts here who will get you through any dark nights.

Pheonixnights · 07/05/2009 21:10

Congratulations 1stMrsF, Welcome to the world of multiples!! Hope you are managing to get some rest, the early days are hard but it does get easier!

My dts are 18 weeks now and still bf, I still can't believe I have got this far with bfeeding twins! The trick is to take it one day at a time and do what you need to do. Well done again!!!

poorbuthappy · 07/05/2009 21:31

Evening all - things all ok here, just wanted to say this to anjlix - i've just read this thread from start to finish and realised that my last question in my email was slightly daft as it is clear from this thread that our twins were born on the same day!

I can only plead twin insanity for asking you how old your twins were..., please forgive me!

Is everyone else ok?

We took our girls to Alton Towers yesterday and all 3 of them behaved wonderfully until the drive home. Nia had a complete breakdown and screamed for an hour and an half...think we learnt our lesson about 3 hour drives in the car - but now we've done that we can do anything!

anjlix · 08/05/2009 08:22

PBH you mean dec 2, 2008? What are the odds!

anjlix · 08/05/2009 08:30

Things going okay, but babies still feed at 1a and 5a. I am tired. I wish they did one long stretch. Hoping that weaning would eventually take care of 1a feed. But they are good size now and one is rolling over from back to tummy. How cute!

I went to see an Osteopath and he could see nothing wrong with me except very weak lower abs. So I am working on making them stronger.

poorbuthappy · 08/05/2009 21:19

anjlix yes I mean 2nd December 2008! I can not believe that we didn't say anything earlier on!!

We are almost rolling over...well Nia is, She gets half way then stops. DH helped her over earlier on and the look on her face was priceless!

Glad you have seen someone and are getting it sorted...

Where are you based?

1stMrsF · 18/05/2009 13:32

Hi all

Thanks for the congrats and supportive messages. Pheonix, I found your comment of doing whatever you have to do very helpful at this stage. The timing of feeds, the number of them and the amount of sleep I get changes so wildly from day to day that as you say, all you can do is take it one day at a time and see what happens. We continued to use formula top up at night when they won't settle, but several times now they have refused it or gone back to sleep without it, so my milk must have increased sufficiently to make up for it.

They feed very frequently for some, most or all of the day and it's particularly hard when they feed almost constantly during the evening when I'm desperate to go to bed. Watched the whole of Eurovision with one or both babies attached to me on Saturday!

I think my goal at the moment is just to survive for a few weeks - is that the right thing to do? I just don't feel like I can even aim for any sort of routine yet because there is no real pattern to what they are doing naturally. I'd like to know what you guys think though.

bagpuss · 18/05/2009 17:20

Just thought I'd come and say hello after starting a thread further down about my surprise twin news last week . I am nearly 13 weeks and still waiting for appointments so still early days, and also still reeling from the shock. I have 3 other children already so our house is soon going to be rather full!

1stMrsF · 18/05/2009 19:31

Hi bagpuss
Stick around. The fact that I wasn't completely terrified by the time I gave birth to twins is almost entirely down to the fantastic support I've had on here for the whole of my pregnancy.

twolittlepigs · 18/05/2009 21:16

Mrs F - congrats on the arrival of your gorgeous girlies! (Hope you don't mind but I took a peek at your pics)

I think your goal of survival is very wise. My boys were born on a friday and I remember congratulating myself every friday for months! I did the same with breastfeeding; told myself my ultimate goal was 3 months, so by three weeks I was half way to my half way point. By the time I was at my half way point things were feeling easier. Once I hit my goal of three months, I felt like a pro and kept going until the boys weaned themselves at 13/14 months! And I remember the days of feeling like you were constantly feeding babies! I does pass. Make the most of having them tucked up close to you while you can! All I get now are quick snatched cuddles in between their racing around!!! I miss it!

As for routine - forget about it! I started a loose routine around 4 months. Personally I don't think they can manage a routine earlier. Maybe it depends on personality, but mine certainly weren't up for one any earlier than that!!

Right, that was one massive post from a lurker, so I'll butt right out again!!

Pheonixnights · 19/05/2009 12:36

Ah bless ya 1st, you are doing really well!! I remeber spending the whole eveing on the sofa whilst the dts tanked up for the night. As twolittlepigs says, it doesn't last forever. It used to take me 1 and half hours doing their last feed, The good thing was DH was my waiter so I just sat feeding and he got me drinks and snacks.

As for routine I have a a very loose routine. Babies feed roughly every 3 hours but I have to fit them around school runs and playshool runs so it is a bit awkward. Looking forward to the shool holidays so the dts can work out their own routine without me waking them for feeds and to get out the house. DS2 starts school in september so that will definatly make it easier for me.

Bagpuss congratulations on your news. It does take a while to et your head round doesn't it. My dts are nearly 20 weeks and I still feel amazed that I am a mum of twins!!!

bagpuss · 19/05/2009 14:57

Thanks for the welcome MrsF and Pheonix . Congratulations on the birth of your twins too MrsF. Today I've had to break out the maternity jeans as I spent the entire weekend walking round with the top button on my normal jeans undone . It certainly makes the whole thing seem a bit more real and dare I say it, I'm even a little excited - I'm sure that will wear off when the panic sets in again shortly.

1stMrsF · 21/05/2009 15:08

Thanks - this is reassuring!

helenjune · 21/05/2009 19:55

Hi all - I'm a new Mum to Mumsnet - apologies if I don't get my messages right first time.
I'm a FT mum to ID twin girls, born Mar 08.
They are still not wieght bearing/crawling let alone walking. Does anyone else have similar problems??
Any advice would be most welcome

poorbuthappy · 26/05/2009 06:53

Helenjune - were your twins prem? According my health visitor they adjust the age until they are 2 to account for the prems being later to do stuff. (sorry if this is too obvious, just wondering!!) My eldest didn't walk until she was 15 months old, so I tend to think that we worry unnecessarily sometimes.

Anyway welcome to MN!

Just thought I'd let everyone know that Gwen slept through the night last night for the first time (8pm to 6.30am), bloody marvellous!
Nia has caught a cold so I don't think we will be getting any sleeping through for a while !

Hope everyone is coping...

LargeGlassofRed · 27/05/2009 13:06

Hi all, quick update I'm now 34 weeks can't believe how quick its going.

Saw the consultant at 32 weeks for growth scan and to go through birth plan. Due to go back at 36 weeks.
The consultant is writing to me re birth plan and the head of midwifery is suppose to be contacting me to talk through the plan.
The main things I've asked for is
No epidural
No continuous monitoring
No drip until after both babies are born.
No artificial breaking of waters.
To be able to use the bath or pool as pain relief.

Really want to get it all sorted as hate the thought of fighting my corner in labour.

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 27/05/2009 20:21

Hello everyone, long time no post...where on earth does the time go?

Very belated catching up, though I have been doing some lurking.

Congratulations to 1st on the births of Millie and Georgie, hope things are still going well. I definitely had my two attached to me virtually permanently for the first 6 weeks at least, that seems like so long ago now but my gorgeous DTs are still just 5 months. At various stages since they were born, I've pottered along doing whatever suited us all, then when it all seemed to get on top of me, I've put in another element of routine to help me feel a bit more in control - regular bath- and bedtime from 6 weeks, regular feed times from about 8 weeks though not very strict about that as trying to keep my BF supply going (hasn't been that successful but I'm still managing about a third of their feeds), just starting to try and bring in regular nap times particularly for my DS now as he's a terror for waking up at 3am and I thought it might help (it did, he slept through for the first time last night).

Welcome to Bagpuss and helenjune. Bagpuss, I really hope you have a great pregnancy but even if you have the odd tough spot, the general consensus seems to be that having the babies is so much more rewarding. helenjune don't know much about late movers as yet, though disconcertingly my DS is rolling over and nearly crawling already, but my DD2 is very happy to just lie around virtually immobile (making up for it by exercising her vocal cords instead). She has no power in her legs at all, but we were snet for scans and the consultant said she's absolutely fine. Could you get your girls checked out?

PBH hooary for Gwen sleeping through, has it continued? My DD2 is a brilliant sleeper, I can't wait until they both sleep through reliably.

LargeGlass, all very exciting - sounds like you are in control and keeping your consultant in his place . I wanted all the same things - but even though things didn't go entirely to plan in the end because I was induced (waters had broken and no spontaneous labour), I still managed to feel very happy with my birth as I made sure I was kept involved and informed about everything. Just stand up for yourself!

We had a trip to baby clinic today, and discovered that at 23 weeks my huge DS is now over 19lbs and DD2 is a dainty 14.5lbs. They are so different pysically and temperamentally, it's so fascinating. I'm sure I must have been this gushy and besotted with DD1 but I'm pleasantly surprised I feel this way about these babies too . Not all the time, obviously - especially not when DS wakes me up in the night because he's got his arm stuck in the cot bars for the 5th time.

How's everyone else, any other lurkers want to show themselves?!
