magnummum you are so organised! Honestly I don't have to think about what to do next, just follow you around and do what you are doing!! I think I want to get a doula, but I haven't done anything about it yet. Of course I don't have other DCs so only have to think about the DTs. Do have family lined up for a few weeks too.

turtle23 · 08/01/2009 06:10

Sorry to crash, but heard someone say they might want a doula... I'm a trainee and desperate to see a twin birth!! If anyone is interested (and in the surrey or south london area) please do let me know. sarah at surreydoula dot co dot uk
(will leave you all in peace now!)

TALLULAHBELLE · 09/01/2009 16:11

Hi Guys- We are all home. Just got home today. Will update properly later but everyone fine .

MarsLady · 09/01/2009 16:30

1stMrsF... you can email me to talk through the whole doula thing if you like. and of course you find out about doulas here as well as meet the doula for you!

Schmauskin · 10/01/2009 18:52

Think this is the best thread for me - I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant with twins. Due August 19th (yeah right!) Currently living in LA but relocating back to Gloucestershire in 12 weeks (better start packing soon) Feeling preety awful nausea EVERY day, sometimes have to stay in bed as feel soooo shite. I have 1 dd of 4.5 and am frankly terrified of coping once the little cherubs are here....

1stMrsF · 10/01/2009 21:05

Welcome back Tallulah. Great to hear from you and look forward to more.

hello Schmauskin, we met on the crazy D'ya ever thread, welcome to this one.

What are you trying for the sickness? Try these: Travel sickness bands; Ginger biscuits (I found that oatcakes with ginger were better than ginger nuts - less sugar, more ginger); eating only carbs 24 hours a day; (I ate cheese sandwhiches and salt & vinegar crisps every day for weeks)

mars, thank you, I may just do that although I've had a look at your website as well as the doula uk one so I've got the basics to think about It's a shame you are not nearer me, I have heard so many people rave about you.

I have been told my iron levels are a bit borderline and it probably explains very dizzy breathless spells I've experienced recently. Decided not to get prescription of iron tablets as I've taken those before and constipation was quite bad, without pregnancy to contribute. Am taking Floradix tablets instead so hopefully will start feeling better soon. Anyone have any experience and can tell me how long it might take to get levels up?

MarsLady · 11/01/2009 01:07

Eat lots of iron rich foods, green veg, red meat, kidney beans etc etc.

Sorry I'm not closer 1stMrsF but I bet we can sort you out with someone lovely.

I'm off back to bed. I'm hoping to see a birth in the morning.

LargeGlassofRed · 11/01/2009 02:38

Just to say again about taking vit b6 50 mg for morning sickness, Ive not actually been sick this pregnancy although have felt it started taking vit b6 the minute I found out I was pregnant this time.
Had bad morning sickness with other three,
Its worth a go,
am 14 weeks now with twins and its slowing subsiding.
This is the firt pregnancy I haven't been signed off work with morning sickness too.

Schmauskin · 11/01/2009 03:27

1stmrsf - have been wearing the bands, eating the ginger and the carbs to no avail, however the Vit B6 may be worth trying LargeGlass! thanks ladies, off to lie down in a a darkened room.

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 11/01/2009 10:53

Welcome Schmauskin and welcome home Tallulah.

Sickness - I only had it very briefly a couple of times and the homeopathic remebdy nux vomica worked a treat, but it may not be the same kind of nausea as it was so short-lived.

Panic - not surprising really, coping isn't easy but we all seem to be managing most of the time .

My DTs are growing well, 4 weeks old today. I'm down at mum and dad's which is our first time staying away from home and it's been no worse than at home, in fact the extra pairs of hands are great. The BF'ing is still tough but Mars is doing a great job of coaxing me through from week to week and so far I haven't caved, expressing from next week with a bit of luck. My brief attempt at expressing this week either caused or coincided with a frenzy of cluster feeding/growth spurt so was temporarily shelved. Alarmingly, my boobs seem to be getting bigger by the day as my milk improves, I thought this all happened much sooner with DD but maybe I've forgotten. I really can't cope with them growing any more . They are battling with our ridiculous Zoom buggy (a GIFT from a lovely friend, can you believe it?) to see which appears round corners first.

Happy Sunday, everyone...

Frangipani74 · 12/01/2009 13:08

Hi all, hope all newbie mums are settling in well with new arrivals.

Welcome Schmauskin, I'm sure you'll cope fine, but if things are a bit crazy you have to come on here and vent - as I'm about to - so don't read this if you want to be encouraged that it's not as hard as you think it might be.

OMG this raising twins and a toddler is bloody well hard work. Why is there not a smiley for tearing hair out in sheer desperation? or just don't express it. All was super duper lovely for first four weeks, babies sleeping lots tandem feeding roughly around a routine. But since 6 weeks and as you mentioned NQSBB a growth spurt and tandem feeding just not working for me at the moment I'm having times when I feel like I'm falling apart. Anyway so I'm in need of some love and encouragement. Tell me please those further ahead than me, have you found a point at which things became just a teeny bit easier - someone suggested a year - panic panic - can I make it that far without getting a divorce or having a breakdown?

I'm seriously considering getting some paid help in the afternoons for the times when none of my family can get here, what have other people done about paid help, a student? a professional? someone totally unqualified? Not sure what we can afford. My very generous in laws have paid for someone come to clean a couple of hours a week which is a huge help, but I'm still finding it hard to cope. I have lady from Homestart droping in this week to discuss how they can help, but I think they only give you a couple of hours a week - better than none though. God sorry for moaning, I'm feeling like a miserable old bag at the moment, I'm sure it will pass.

Pheonixnights · 12/01/2009 17:50

Hi fran, Sorry your having a hard time at the moment, I can't give any advice as my DTs are only 10 days old but I agree that they are bloody hard work!! I think things do get easier at 3 months, shall we mark it on our calenders??

My dh tried to go to work for 6 hours today but I had to have him come back home!! I think he managed 4 hours instead!! We had a really bad night last night and as I hadn't had a nap yesterday I was completely floored with tiredness!! To make things worse I have an infection and have been bleeding heavily so have started a coarse of antibiotics. I am hoping they kick in quickly!!

liahgen · 12/01/2009 17:53

1stMrsF, am i anywhere near you? I'm a recognised Doula and would love to support a family with twins.

Kent?

1stMrsF · 12/01/2009 21:15

liahgan I am in Oxted. Surrey, but close to Kent borders. Is that close? Have you experience with twins?

1stMrsF · 12/01/2009 21:19

Schmauskin - sorry nothing is working! I did find nothing worked really, it just wore off in the end...

liahgen · 12/01/2009 23:02

I don't have 1st hand experience, although 2 of my close friends have twins so have a working knowledge if that makes sense.

If you'd like an informal chat, email me

[email protected]

Oxted is fine for me. I also know a fab Doula is very close to you who I know has twins experience. I'll pass you her details if you'd like.

cherrymonster · 12/01/2009 23:38

NQSBB- my little girl is called hope elizabeth too! she was 7lb 1 oz. i dont have twins but have come on here because my friend is expecting twins in april and doesnt have a pc so missing out on good advice. also. my girls were really close together and i often get asked if they are twins because they are about the same size and almost identical. (they are now 3.10 and 2.10)

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 13/01/2009 11:02

Cherry you obviously have great taste . Good luck to your friend.

Fran and Pheonix, I am feeling your pain. Literally. If there had been formula in the house last night, it would have got used. The nights are soooo hard. I haven't had more than 90 mins sleep at a time for 3 weeks, and I'm really feeling it. If it was just the feeding, I could just about cope, but they take so long to settle after the feeds sometimes, it means that no sooner have they dropped off than it's time for the next feed. 3months of this and I'll be certifiable - I just hope the expressing helps, I'll keep you posted...

MerryMarigold · 13/01/2009 13:37

Hi all. Frangi, I sympathise totally. My dh has been off work since dts born, but still so hard. I felt great for a month as it was so nice not to be pg!! Then it started getting hard, babies quite sick at 5 weeks. I am getting more sleep now, but the previous deprivation makes me feel even more tired. Am starting to try and get them into some sort of routine, but it's very difficult as didn't do it from birth. Still they are going to bed 8-9pm rather than midnight.

Bfing is ok. Not tandem, too many wind/puke/reflux issues. Got a medela in style pump from ebay, it's brilliant. Does both boobs in about 5 mins, v powerful.

GBB, a zoom as a GIFT, that's a grand's worth of gift!!!

MerryMarigold · 13/01/2009 13:41

forgive me GBB, it is not as pricey as i thought. wish i'g got one. mountain bug a bit of a monster!

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 13/01/2009 16:02

MM, the Zoom's a monster in the other direction but great to have something the car seats clip on to. No idea how it would be on a beach or in woods though - haven't so far had any inclination to venture out that far! Will do next week though - we're joining you Norfolk ladies, looking forward to walks on Holkham beach and lovely country pub lunches.

MarsLady · 13/01/2009 22:48

NQSBB I won't let you cave. We'll get you through and no it won't be like this for 3 months. You are doing a wonderful job. And I adore you!

Fran get in a local teen for arsenic hour (5-7). I did. They can do whatever it is you need them to do on that particular day eg jiggle babies, play with toddler, do a bath time, wash the dishes etc.

I love looking in on you all. Have been over busy this last week. I had 2 marathon births and 1 reasonably quick 1. Wasn't meant to work out that way. Ho hum! All 3 were boys! BIG boys!

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 14/01/2009 09:04

Well last night my DH gave the late eve feed which ended up being at midnight - expresed breastmilk and an eensy top-up and I got - drumroll - 5 hours sleep IN A ROW. I almost feel human. And I'm being nice to DD this morning too! Not sure how long DH will be able to cope though, he looks knakered!
