Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pheonixnights · 30/12/2008 09:58

Hope Mel is doing ok. Her twins should be here by now.

Went back for another scan yesterday and all is well. The fluid levels were fine and the good news is both babies are head down woo hoo!! Induction booked for Friday but definatly getting contractions this morning. Am pottering round the house to see if they step up or fizzle out again!!

AQ - Can't beleive you have your twins sleeping through at 3 months!!! Will definatly be wanting to know how you managed that!! I am still wondering round the house in the middle of the night trying to dislodge a baby stuck in my ribs!! Night feeding won't be too big a shock this time!

LGR - Sorry about your homebith request. I read a twin book which seemed to imply that the only way of getting a home birth for twins would be to have an independant midwife who is experienced in them but that is as much as I know.

And I can second Mels recomendation regarding Jackie Clunes book. It is fab!!

I'll keep you all updated on whether the babies are making their arrival or just teasing!!

1stMrsF · 30/12/2008 16:52

Congratulations to the new arrivals in the last few weeks - we have been busy!

I had my 20 week scan today and feel that I therefore have something worthwhile to say (too much in awe of these amazing birth stories and reports of feeding/sleeping through the night etc. to share my pathetically early pregnancy whines!!)

So, I am having....2 girls and they are all well and a good size

I've updated the list:

Jotwins: twin girls born Jan 13th 2007 non identical

TALLULAHBELLE · 30/12/2008 17:40

Hi - just popping in with quick update - had my 38 week check up today. Breech baby now transverse so need a section after all . Am going back to hosp tonight, for section tomorrow morning. Happy Hogmanay - . Will let you all know how things go.

Best of lucfk Phoenix - hope you get the birth you want.

Hope all well for Mel too.

A happy New Year everyone.

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 30/12/2008 19:07

Congrats in advance tallulah. Section was the best thing that ever happened to me . I would do it again any day! (But this time I will include a tummy tuck on the side).

Pheonixnights · 30/12/2008 19:07

Good luck Tallulahbelle. Don't feel sad about the C section. Hope everything goes ok.

Happy New year!!!

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 30/12/2008 19:08

PS. Accessorize, I am mailing you. Sleeping through. What?!!! How?!!! Mine are still sleeping in bed with me. All night.

accessorizequeen · 30/12/2008 20:24

Good luck tallulah, just think of holding two beautiful babies tomorrow, doesn't matter how they arrive in the end

Having said they're sleeping through, dd (who has slept 8+ hrs for about a month) got up at 1am and 5am last night but sure it was a glitch as I didn't feed enough yesterday and hadn't eaten much either. They always wake up in the night more if I've not eaten enough. Secret is...I've no idea, but 7oz of formula each at bedtime (about 7pm now) seems to help, Merry. Are they still feeding every 90 minutes??? Do email me, woudl love to hear from you and couldn't see new piccies on FB despite your saying there were!

ChristMarsSleighdy · 30/12/2008 23:32

Thinking of you Tallulah!

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 31/12/2008 14:07

Hello everyone - and can't wait to hear news of the 6 imminent babies.

I am sitting typing with my little DD2 strapped to me, DS is asleep downstairs. Goodness, the lengths I find myself going to to get them both quiet when I'm on my own - finding myself in ridiculous controted positions in bed trying to do skin-to-skin feeding to soothe them. So the sling is out and it's going to be getting lots of use, even if I regret it later. Still, we're getting to know each other and I'm mostly loving it. More sleep would be nice, but hey...

We're attempting a NYE at friends' for dinner - could be a total washout but we figure it's worth a try. And it's only 5 mins drive away if it all goes wrong... Happy new year to all of you, especailly those welcoming it with new bundles.

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 31/12/2008 14:09

Oh yes, keep meaning to echo the twin skin consternation ewwww. I almost don't want my tummy to go down any more cos I know it's just going to get worse.

poorbuthappy · 31/12/2008 16:49

Any news from MEL????

Hope you all had a wonderful christmas...girls came on the 19th...fair play they are really behaving at the moment!
4 hours min between feeds, 6 hours at night.
Bloody marvellous...lot less trouble than dd!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone is good and Happy New Year!

Pheonixnights · 01/01/2009 11:58

Well I am still here. No more contractions. I will be phoning the hospital at 6.00 am tomorrow to arrange when to come in. I feel really emotional today and think I would cry at a drop of a hat. We are just pottering round the house today inbetween answering phone calls from people asking if the babies have arrived!!!!!! It is really annoying!! If I don't answer they are phoning my mum! I was hoping I had been vague enough about the due dates but it hasn't worked!! Gonna take the xmas tree down to try and keep my mind a bit busier instead of worrying. I have been through labour 2 times already but I still worry!!

Right better start doing some things. Can't wait to hear about Mel and Tallulahbelle!!

Happy New year everyone!!

ChristMarsSleighdy · 01/01/2009 13:39

Do you have an answer machine Phoenix? If so set the message to say "The mini Phoenix' have not yet arrived. We promise to call/text/email to let you all know when they have arrived. Thank you for thinking of us!"

Hopefully that will do it.

Now, relax. Get busy with something. That'll help. Watch some comedy DVDs. Rest. If you're not rested that doesn't help with the contractions. It will happen my lovely. Give them some time and relax.

Mars xx

PazzaPlusTwo · 02/01/2009 14:56

Hello!

Wow not been on MN for so long I have missed loads ... new babies!!! At the risk of getting broody I'll try to catch up on this thread ... congrats to everyone who has new double-bundles xxx

Quick update - took the Pazzettes to Switzerland and Germany for family Christmases, all had a fantastic time and got around and home in one piece with rucksacks full of new toys. Only one howling tearful semi-breakdown on a bus after a fruitless day of xmas shopping and a lot of buggy-struggles (boy do you not want to be in a wheelchair in Switzerland!) Followed by near-divorce when DH helpfully suggested 'you shouldn't let it get to you'!

The Pazzettes are really growing - actually I think we have been over-feeding them. Finding weaning quite complicated, and they don't seem to have grasped the concept of 'I'm full, Mum'. At all. Hollow legs

I finally stopped producing milk which is a blessed relief (it took about 10 weeks!) although I am missing my temporary 'enhanced assets' a bit What a relief to be able to sleep on my front after 18 months!

Hope you're all well and to be on MN more regularly from now on.

Pazza xx

mel2005 · 02/01/2009 15:10

hi all, i had them on monday. it was all a bit of a disaster really and i wish they had let me book a section. i went in on monday 8.30am and wasnt even seen by a doctor until midday. i was 1cm so had a pessory? then waters broken at 6pm ish. contractions went mad, i dont even really remember having Alice as i went a bit mad on the gas and air. it was about 9.15pm. then Oscar was too high up and his heart rate dropped so i was rushed in to the operating theatre for a general and had him about 9.30pm. i woke a few hours later to find myself feeding two little babies. oscar was 5lb 5oz and alice 6lb 1oz. i only came home last night. oscar has been under transitional nicu care but has been with alice and i in a room on the ward.
they are lovely and feed really well most of the time but i am soooooooo sore, its lovely to be home and DH has been fantastic helping me.
i will pop some photos on later when i get them off the camera.

Frangipani74 · 02/01/2009 15:56

Congratulations Mel, looking forward to seeing pics of your little ones. Hope you make a speedy recovery. Well done.

PazzaPlusTwo · 02/01/2009 17:09

Congrats Mel! Whichever way they come out, as long as you're all OK...

PazzaPlusTwo · 02/01/2009 17:19

Large glass of red - yet another 'woulda liked a home birth' here... I looked into it in detail and yes theoretically you can have a homebirth but you need to hire independant midwives really as the NHS ones wouldn't have a clue and would just pack you up to hospital quicktime.

Finding independent midwives with twins experience is also tricky. I spoke to about 15 around London and all were either unavailable or not experienced enough to want to be the lead midwife. If google Jane Evans she should be able to advise you of your options (she has twins experience) and let you know of anyone suitable in your area, they all seem to know each other.

Hospital and doula is a good alternative!

I had a planned section in the end (babies breech/transverse) and recovered fine, hospital was great.

MarsLady · 02/01/2009 17:22

Mel... Congratulations! If you want to de-brief your birth just call me honey (number on website unless I've given it to you already).

Hey Pazza. Good to see you!

LGofR JE (whose details I gave you) used an IM. She would happily give you the details if you wanted them.

PazzaPlusTwo · 02/01/2009 18:30

NQSBB congrats too!!!

my poor skin has improved massively but 8 months on is still a long way from bikini-ready. i doubt it ever will be, sigh... muscles finally got back together after about 5-6 months though, so no excuse to not rejoin gym. but then who needs an excuse? if i'm going to be building anything back up it will be my tolerance to alcohol not my abs ha ha.

meet up soon to peek at your littlies? 'friend' has my mobile number. call if i can help with anything. have lots of clothes mine have outgrown and other useful stuff for early days.

pxxx

Ladies, I'm just starting to get my head around buying things for the babies and I would be very grateful for your opinions on this thread if you have experienced the Mountain Buggy Urban or the Out n About Nipper 360

Thank you very much in advance for any thoughts

Congratulations Mel - I'm sorry it wasn't a great experience, but it's wonderful news that you are home, all well and feeding. Hope your recovery is swift.

MerryMarigold · 03/01/2009 12:23

Congrats mel. Likng the names. Glad you are all safe and sound. And the babies home already, good weights. Well done. All the eating did the trick. Hope your recovery goes ok.

Lady on my postnatal thread said tallulah had her babies - she was her buddy from another post natal thread. I have asked her for details!

mel2005 · 03/01/2009 13:09

thank you all, i have managed to get a photo on for you. the doomoos are fantastic and i am so glad i bought them Oscar and Alice love sitting in them and having a good look around. the swings and bouncers are not suitable for mine yet as they are too little. i will be so glad when i have recovered from the section as i have trouble getting out of bed in the night and am not that mobile yet.
its a shame the birth happened as it did and Oscar was put at risk because they wanted me to do it naturally even though he was tucked at the top. i should have just demanded a c-section which was what i said at the start. i am not going to dwell on it as both are now safe at home with us and when the section pain has gone it will all be forgotten. i still cant get rid of this cold i have had for ages and the coughing just makes the wound pain worse.
i have started to introduce formula top-ups and the children love helping at feedtimes. Oscar and Alice are lovely and i cant quite believe they are finally here.

NotQuiteSoBigBird · 03/01/2009 14:08

Congratulations, Mel, lovely names and good weights - sorry for the dreaded double whammy one VB, one CS, but as you say it will all be forgotten in no time.

Pazza - would love to hook up, though I may be rude and refuse clothes as my drawers explode baby clothes every time I open them - I can't believe how many I have. I think I have your number too, I'll text. Are you working a lot?

Hope everyone else is well. LGofR, I spoke to Jane Evans when considering a homebirth and she was lovely, really helpful. Though I second Pazza's comment that hospital + doula was a fine alternative for me - Mars did a fabulous job of filtering the medical staff's nonsense for me.

Pheonixnights · 04/01/2009 18:10

HI everyone.

Well I am safely home from hospital with my 2 new arrivals. I've had a boy 6lb 15 and a girl 6lb 9. I am over the moon and can't beleive I have a little girl who has 3 big brothers!! Still on cloud nine really!! Haven't fully decided on the names yet but looks like they mightt be Lucas John and Ruby Lily.

As for the birth, I went in on Friday mroning to be induced at 9.00. They gave me a the gel to get things started. And then they left me to progress by myself. One consultant had said about the procedure, breaking waters, drip, epiduarl etc which my midwife rolled her eyes at. However we decided to let nature take its turn. I was examined at 5.00pm and found to be nearly 4 cm so they streched me slightly. My waters broek at 8.00 pm and then I asked for the gas and air! My son was born at 9.04pm. They went to get the scan machine to find out where the sceond babcy was when I reached for the gas and air again. She was born 6 minutes later. I had such a wonderful birth and couldn't believe how well I felt after. Did have to go on a drip for 4 hours as lost a moderate amount of blood. We came out of hospital yesterday. Babies are feeding really well and I have managed to tandum feed a couple of times. Hopefully practice makes perfect. Had very little sleep last night as they are a bit mucasy and didn't settled til 7 o clock this morning!!! Hopefully tonight will be better!!

COngratulations Mel - Hope you are recovering well from the C section. Hopefully you are getting more sleep than me!!!

Hope the above all makes sense!! My head still a bit fuzzy!!!
