tips for weaning twins?

Just coming up to weaning my twins and looking for anything that might make the job easier. Has anyone found those beaba babycook (or similar) things any use, or any other products?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nope. Just use a normal mini processor(we already had it) or a stick blender thingy that you can link up to it's own bowl - IYSWIM.
Ikea rubber ice cube trays, the long thin stick shaped sections, are good too. One stcik of mush does my two if mixed with rice or porridge stuff.

Def do BLW - its much easier to dump stuff on their highchair trays and eat your own food than trying to feed them both, and then clearing up before you get to eat.

Just recently started weaning my DTs. I had the babycook with DS1 but have not touched it this time round as found it v time consuming (can only do small amounts at once so not worth it if doing batches esp for two babies).

TBH I am being a bit lazy as I have a 2yr old as well and time is quite tight so have been using a lot of Plum Baby pots and Ella's Kitchen sachets (nicer than jars), and am now adding in my own protein for them (minced chicken / pulses / salmon etc). A good buy for me was the Annabel Karmel grinder thingy as you just stick your chicken etc in and turn the handle and it is easily mixed in with your veg (never found meat blended v well personally but prob just me doing it all wrong).

Also I started out using seperate bowls / spoons for each baby but soon realised that when they are starving it is easier just using one bowl and spoon. Obv means if one has a cold other is more likely to get it, but as they suck each others hands etc I think the chances of them sharing their illnesses is quite high anyway!

They have also had cooked broccoli to munch on, peeled cucumber, chunks of banana and big chunks of apple that they like to suck. Have not tried anything else yet on that front. Bit scared despite DS1 eating lots of finger food at 6 months. It was easier to watch him like a hawk than it is with these two!

Thanks for your tips- particularly Egg. Very reassuring. Won't bother with the babycook as you have confirmed my suspicions that it probably wouldn't last long with twins. And was hoping it might be okay to feed them out of one bowl with one spoon. I figure that they are chewing each others toys, so must have each others germs and yours seem to have survived so far! (And I have a feeling I will be using a whole load of ready made stuff once I go back to work...)

two bouncy chairs - sit on the floor with one either side - bowl of mushed up whatever (pear or apple is a good one to start with) and spoon into alternate mouths

I used a fork to mush things up. And I figured they are getting each others germs all the time anyway so sharing a spoon was the least of their problems

baby led weaning all the way...worked wonders with my twins. means that feeding time is actually a "break" for you. they're happy feeding their faces and doubling as messy play and you get to eat your breakfast/lunch/dinner at the same time. if you want to try it babyledweaning.com rocks as i can see aitch has added already. if you wanted to do purees i would suggest 3 spoons! one for you, one each for them and rotating them around. BLW is good for twins as you've got a few finger foods out for them and it ends up catering to their different tastes instead of purees where you've made an effort to make one batch of mashed up stuff and only one twin likes it...good luck!

I found IKEA icecube trays useful - they do large ones that will do for both babies. Normal ice cube trays were a waste of time, I would go through a whole tray in a couple of feeds!

I used Annabel Karmels weaning guide which has lots of good recipes (my girls 2yrs and I still use a lot of them). If you're going down the finger food route I found this book useful.

When they get going give them a spoon to wave about. As soon as my twins could feed themselves it changed my life!

Baby led weaning all the way! Much better then the pair of them can develop their own tastes etc and eat the amount that they choose.

Hello, just found this thread and I have a question regarding weaning identical twins. Did your twins wean at the same time? I have identical twin girls aged 5 months and started weaning them on baby rice a couple of weeks ago.

Twin 1 (much smaller at birth and ever since, much smaller appetite for milk since birth) took to it like a duck to water and is now on baby rice, mashed fruit, veg etc and is doing really well.

Twin 2 (much larger at birth and guzzles twice the amount of milk as her sister) can't tolerate even a tiny bit of baby rice in an entire bottle of milk, whenever I try and give her the tiniest amount of baby rice she has an upset stomach/diarrhoea for a couple of days and horrendous wind. I leave it a few days for her stomach to settle then try again but so far she still can't tolerate it.

Did you get this problem? Is it normal or do you think Twin 2 has digestive problems??

def 1 bowl 1 spoon, do job lot in blender no messing adn don't worry if they don't take to it at the same time - mine didn't, DT1 was straight in there, is now fussier than DT2 who took forever

I put them on to finger food as soon as i thought they were ready and it worked really well. It freed me up. They liked the control. Going to start school now and very good eaters. Will eat anything now which is great.
