I had some good news yesterday - Esther was weighed and had put on 10oz in nine days . Theo put on 11oz

DTs are five weeks old now and I have BF exclusively, but Esther had only been gaining 3-4oz per week and had dropped off the bottom of the growth chart. HV said she wanted to see more of a gain... well there you go.

But she looked almost disapointed and still said to me...

"You can give them a bottle of formula you know"

Grrrr!

Why why why do they say these things? Silly cow.

shabster · 12/06/2008 09:57

Hiya Neenz - sounds to me like you are doing a grand job.

My friend has a 6month old little girl who, to be honest, I could eat. She is a chunky monkey. My friend has had a year to end all years - in September her husband took his own life on their 1st anniversary. He left her with a son of 10, a daughter of 5 and pregnant. Her daughter was born 6 weeks later.

Her HV came to check DD. Even after reading her notes she said 'I am going to have to keep an eye on this little girl - she is very overweight and you do know we class that as a form of child abuse!!'

No mention of 'how the hell have you coped with all this - you are doing an amazing job - your home is spotless, you and your children are obviously well kept, clean, as happy as you can be - I want to congratulate you'

The problem is that now my friend wont go to baby clinic with DD. It has, in effect, cut off a meeting place for her and it has meant that my friend will never confide in her HV again.

Sorry I have gone on and on - it has been such a bad time and I feel the HV has let her down badly.

Neenztwinz · 12/06/2008 10:02

That's terrible Shabs but unfortunatly it seems to be the usual sort of thing HVs come out with.

Your poor friend

shabster · 12/06/2008 10:21

We are all part of a little 'playground gang' and we closed ranks around her when the gossiping started. She has done so well. Just after she had DD she had a complete breakdown. The emergency mental health team came out to her and we all looked after a child each She took AD for a few weeks and has gradually weaned herself off them. I am so proud of her - she is thoughtful, kind and loving.

The HV is due to visit again, for whatever reason, in a couple of weeks and I plan on being there to fight her corner. I will, quite simply, tell HV the story and then if she carries on I will show her the door.

Her DD is just scrumptious - everybody who sees her says 'Awwwwww what a beautiful little girl.'

largeginandtonic · 12/06/2008 12:22

Ello all!

Great thread title Tiggs!

Shabs your poor friend, HV say the most ridiculous things sometimes. It is soul destroying that sometimes it is just one comment that can send you over the edge, especially having dealt with so much. How lovely she has all of you looking out for her. Em back in her size 6 Grrrrrr.

Neenz you sound fabulous! The twins are doing so well, give yourself a huge pat on the back I love the mane Esther.

Midwife came yesterday, she didnt put a hand on my tummy and i didnt ask her to. I have had enough guesses for now. Scan in a week or so. She was lovely but said i will have to go and see the consultant to fight my corner about a homebirth. She sounded nervous too. I am not sure if i am being a little unreasonable. MARS can i mail you?

Trips how is Tom today? Grazes always hurt when they go in the bath and if they are on a join when they bend them. Everything stings Bless him. Vaseline will lubricate it a bit without stinging, not antibac or anything though.

shabster · 12/06/2008 12:26

Hiya G&T - yes back in her normal clothes - hardly any jelly belly - and she eats two spuds more than a pig could. If I didnt love her so much I would hate her

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 12/06/2008 12:36

H'lo girls, just managed to catch up! DP been hogging my busy on the laptop.......

Mars, is your mum in town?

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 12/06/2008 12:40

I'm outta touch! My scores our are screwed up.

Shabs, I too have something to send, I'm just awaiting the right moment......Glad to hears its all going well and that Dan is smitten. It is the most calming thing in the world to hold a baby......love it! I had to go into theater after the DTs to have a retained placenta removed. I shook like a leaf afterward, and vomitted and cried, and when they finally gave me back my babies I was fine. Babies are magic. I'm sure they have healing powers.

I am desperately broody constantly now. I need to discuss this. I will start a thread when I get time. I expect you all to reply

triplets · 12/06/2008 13:27

Hi my lovelies,
A sneaky half hour on here as Dh has gone to pick my brother up from the hospital! Tom Tom slept all night and said his back didnt hurt at all, so went off to school quite happily! Weather is strange, one minute its black and pouring down, then its blue sky and sunny! Had a phone call from Harrys consultants secretary yesterday, just wanted to know how he was feeling now, then of course my suspicious mind is saying, "why, why are they making a curtesy call"? We ended up chatting for an hour! She told me lots of things she probably shoudn`t have done, but ended up saying that both she and Mr Haranath had a soft spot for us and that they are in our corner if we need anything. I asked her about the CT scan Harry is waiting for, supposed to be done before chemo, which is next Tues. She looked it up and somehow the request has been cancelled, so I had to phone his key worker, never there, left a message, so hope she will sort it out! Its not as though its something unimportant! Shabs, hows our baba?

shabster · 12/06/2008 13:30

Your grandson is just fine Trips. Dannys washer/dryer is on the blink - he is coming down in about an hour with Ironing, Wet Washing and dirty washing!!!!! I just cant wait

Glad Tom feels better. Good to see the hospital are fighting your corner.

triplets · 12/06/2008 13:39

Ya Ya.............lovely to hear from you, I would gladly do the washing for them if I could, all those gorgeous little babygros, ahhhhhhhh. Lewis has almost become MNS youngest celebrity! Have you heard from Tomster at all? Ours wont be encouraged to ring home, shame

shabster · 12/06/2008 13:46

Not a word from Tom - they are not allowed either.....he is home tomorrow afternoon

shabster · 12/06/2008 14:38

Mighty Frumpster - I just emailed you honey - Peter the Pigeon should be on his way up country

MarsLady · 12/06/2008 15:46

LG&T you don't need to ask angel. Just email away.

If it wasn't for the fact that my friend is a wonderful HV I would be in so much trouble grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! You can't win can you. And as to ... "you can give them a bottle you know" Well personally I think that you should complain!

Need to check that DT1 hasn't fallen asleep. She refuses to sleep at night then wants a nap at 3.30pm. Grrrrrrrrrr

largeginandtonic · 12/06/2008 16:20

Ta Mars! Yes i too have a lovely HV, she speaks sense and is very sensible. It is the luck of the drawer unfortunately.

This has been my afternoon

My twins were such angels >

Trips - when you come on here is a link to Eris' new thread (we filled the other).

The sunflower thread

Eris' mum said she wanted to keep our group together when the initial thread was full. She suggested that we all have a chance to name the thread and she passed the first go to me I feel really honoured. I also did my first thread. Wanted it to be called something that would remind me of my boys and my instant thought was sunflowers. It has been good to see over the first thread how many and have filtered in after the hundreds of to begin with.

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 12/06/2008 18:06

Shabs, pleased to see that.

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 12/06/2008 18:08

Shabs, pleased to see that. And what a great name. We're growing sunflowers in our teeny greenhouse right now, might name one Shabs

I am having such a shit day. I feel like a MONSTER.
