‘Suspected’ twins

I had a scan at 6 weeks 5 days, not sure if they even managed to measure properly as I wasn’t informed. They found a second heartbeat and said the two baby’s were hiding each other it looked like (even though they can’t confirm there’s a second baby?). I need to go for another scan in 2 weeks time to have it confirmed? Has anyone else been through similar?
there’s only one gestation sac from what I can see but he was measuring outside my sac at certain points and then showed me the 2nd heartbeat which was under the first found one in the same sac? I’m so confused

You can have MOMO twins, really risky and you should be under FMC

I have researched and wondered about it, but honestly the sonographer showed me the second heart beat which was quite obvious, had a look for a good while with the other sonographer who was quite shocked and then told me it’s only suspected and they’re so close together? I’m confused as to how it’s suspected if they can see them both so close together😅I’ve been given no information on what type they would be or anything, thank you for replying

Twin mummy here! I remember the day they found two heartbeats like it was yesterday.

I reccommend you start reading up on all material on the Twin Trust site. Momo twins does present risks but with the right consultant care etc you will be fine. Few twin mum mates who had identical and avoided Nicu.

Take a look at twin trust info.

Crossing everything for you. Twins are amazing. First few years is bit insane but then it is just pure magic. X

Thank you for replying! Did your twins need to have a second scan in order for the confirmation? I’m still so confused I just wish I knew the odds and chances from this all. It looks like I’m in an extremely unique situation where I don’t know if I’m even having twins or not until I have that second scan in two weeks🤦🏽‍♀️ I’ve googled and not found much :/

Was it that they could only see one heart beat at a time? They may be worried they are seeing the same heartbeat in slightly different places so cannot confirm?

Completely unsure tbh, wasn’t explained to me. They did the blow flow setting and saw both at the same time in different areas which is what lead them to investigate if it’s multiples initially if that means anything? Thanks for replying

Second (and third and fourth and millions of scans when its twins!) But yes, for us we had one strong heartbeat but the other wasn't as strong and they were quite vague in how the spoke to us. We had a few previous miscarriages so think partly vague as didnt want to add to our anxiety etc. At the next scan they confidently said yes its twins and both strong heartbeats.

It’s such a weird waiting game now until 2 weeks, I’m so tempted to book a private scan this weekend where I’ll be 7 weeks plus 3 days but I’m worried that’ll just confuse me even more potentially

I would wait.

Also, not to scaremonger but we were told fair amount of twin pregnancies ultimately become one..... many people dont know they actually were ever pregnant with twins and the second twin became a vanishing twin or what not. You are still very early really. No harm in reading up though!!

In our experience private scan clinics made previous losses more tricky..... we did do private scans with the twins but only when further on.

I did finish work quite early with the twins (28 weeks as my consultant reccomended) Stayed very healthy throughout pregnancy by walking, swimming and eating good food. There was regular monitoring etc towards end. Both delivered fine and we did 1 week in nicu. Both are fit, healthy, gorgeous little people now. One is an book worm and the other is all about sports and bike riding - so weird they are so the same but so different!

Crossing everything for you and hope the next two weeks go quickly x

and yes I see your points especially with the private scans I am best just to wait. I did wonder if the suspected part was potentially more about suspected viability or something along those lines x

@deathlyhallows21 hey lovely
Congrats on your pregnancy. I kind of have something similar but also different going on. Had a very very early scan (around 5 weeks) on Thursday. We saw one sac with what looked like the start of a yolk and then a second smaller sac with no sign of a yolk. The sonographer said we have to wait and see if the second sac grows and develops into another baby it could go either way. We are back in 2 weeks for another scan. It’s the most surreal experience and now we are just super confused! But happy the baby/ babies are in the right place for now ♥️
