Baby after twins

Our twins are almost two years old and we’re starting to consider having another baby. Has anyone had another baby after twins? What was the age gap? How did your twins cope emotionally? How did you cope? Was it so much easier having a singleton? Or still hard because you have the twins too?
i think it would be lovely to expand our family but I also want to enjoy a singleton newborn.
I’m 35 now so I think we’ll need to decide soon.

I have no personal experience, sorry, but I was wondering statistically if you are more likely to have a second set of twins rather than a singleton?

Only if the twins were fraternal

What PP wrote. If yours are fraternal then some thought needed to what you'd do if you found you were expecting twins +.

It's probably less likely just because twins are such bastarding hard work, so few people go, you know what, how about another child?

I had a singleton first, and there are a few "easier" things with twins, especially when they get to 3+ and can start to genuinely play together. I remember being far more concerned about leaving my eldest to go and cook etc.

Overall having three is hard ime. How to split my attention between them, ensure enough 1:1 time and so on. I'm not sure I'd knowingly do it, though of course lots of people do.

My twins were just 2 when my DD was born. I was 35 too. I also had a 5 year old. If the are nearly 2 they will be nearer 3. I loved having them close together baby just fitted in. It didn't affect them at all. Do you have any help nearby like your parents.

Read Jackie Clune’s book extreme motherhood.

she had a toddler then gave birth to triplets, so 4 under 2!

it’s a wild ride!

Yes consider your risk of more twins. My friend has two sets.

I had a single first , then twins when she was 22 months.
Obviously it was busy and 2 in a buggy and one in s sling is logistically difficult.
It was 21 years ago so triple buggies were huge and didn’t fit through doors.

I had number 4 when my twins were 6 and it seemed so easy and chill.
DC4 was the most chill baby ever.

Yes, we had a singleton after twins.
The twins were almost 4 years old when I fell pregnant; we waited as the chances of twins again were high, plus the risk of premature birth (twins were born at 26+6)
We found a singleton quite straightforward after twins!

My twins are fraternal IVF so probably a low chance of conceiving twins again. I hope it would happen naturally for us next time - I don’t want to do IVF again and certainly wouldn’t be transferring two embryos haha. I’d just possibly like one more child. Maybe it would be best to wait until they are in school

I have fraternal twins and I thought the same as you, I would have another one when they started school, but by that point I didn't want to start all over again!
Should have had another when they were 2/3.

Anyway we decided two is enough and didn't have another. I regretted it for a while but I know it was the right decision. Mine are teens now and have always been demanding, high energy, sporty, do loads of hobbies, always needing to be out or being driven somewhere etc. I'm exhausted by this point in the school year and have no idea how I'd have fit a 3rd child into this unless they had turned out to be quiet and happy at home with a book!
