Maternity leave query NHS

Hi all!

I just have a question -

If I were to have back to back maternity’s as an NHS worker would I be entitled to the same SMP/ OMP?

As in if I was on maternity and conceived within a couple of months again? Meaning I wouldn’t be back to work between maternity’s and the qualifying periods would be during my maternity.

Would it make a difference if I was taking 12 months or 9 months maternity this time round?

TIA!

To be eligible for SMP again you’d have to meet the earnings threshold within the qualifying weeks, so make sure to check that before you try.

Hi!

thanks for your response.
I think you can get maternity allowance which is the same amount if you don’t qualify for SMP! It was more the occupational pay I’m not sure about x

Should get OMP as your employment won't have changed however there might be a question around your eligibility for SMP...you could conceivably use a bunch of KIT days during your qualifying period which may be enough to enable you to have SMP. If you receive MA instead of SMP you may need to get employer know as your overall pay shouldn't exceed normal full pay so employer may choose to make an adjustment for MA as they may do for SMP
