OMG! It's triplets!!!

Last friday I had my first ultrasound and it's triplets!! First pregnancy after several years of infertility and (quite surprisingly) just one round of IUI. We are shocked. We were praying for twins in case (me being 37 and with infertility issues) couldn't conceive again. But THREE??!!

I read all the triplets threads on here, but still have so many questions and I can't find the answers online. They booked me to have an specialist appointment in the high risk pregnancy unit (translating from my language, I am outside UK) but they haven't called me yet.

Could I ask for some parents of triplets to tell me something about your experience with the whole process? I can do with any information, and I don't mind if you're blunt, quite the contrary, I would like to tell me the scary bits too.

For example: How big am I going to be? Did they doctors told you about risks and what were they? At what week did you give birth? How was the birth? Did you have any complications? Were your children ok? How are they now? What about the car?! And the stroller?! And how will they sleep when babies? Three cots? Honestly, tell me anything even if you think it will be irrelevant!!

On the plus side of all this, I'm quite enjoying telling people and observing the shock on their faces. I must be very stupid, because I know they are shocked for me and my future life, but, don't ask me why, it's being really fun to see.

Definitely don't do themed names, they're individuals not pets! Even with pets it's a bit awkward/painful when at some point (for whatever reason) one of them isn't there 😬

Fe I'd be concerned about school bullying, Fe la fea etc?

My parents made shortlists for me and my sister, but didn't pick until after the births. How long do you get to choose a name after birth in Spain? I know it varies from 3 days to 6 months across Europe...

BunnyRuddington · 15/05/2025 20:37

Oh God dont let DMIL get her way in this one!

Springflowersmakeforbetterhours · 15/05/2025 21:57

How about tell mil you are naming them after The Nolans?

Oh, yes! I can totally imagine the bullying happening with Fe. The amount of names we have discharged because we have realised it can be a little bit funny in our language or other is huge! For example, when we didnt know the sex of the babies we really liked Aimar for a boy, and honestly I still like it. But! Aimar is pronounced the same as "Hay mar"(there is sea) and we live by the sea 😂We dropped it inmediately just thinking in all the times we will talk about the sea with our son There-is-sea.

"How long do you get to choose a name after birth in Spain?"
Oh, this is a very important point! I´m going to find out now.

Aww congratulations OP. You must have so many questions. There was a mum at my DS’ school, who had triplets, and then twins, 2 pregnancies and 5 kids, seems mad doesn’t it, she coped amazingly well.

Agapornis · 16/05/2025 12:00

How about Tiresias? There-is-sea-as 😂

Nooo, dont worry! Its not going to happen. I always just smile, nod and reply to her that we would consider, because I dont want to hurt her feelings, but no way Jose! Its like Agapornis has said, they are individuals so for me it feels just wrong. Dont want to judge other people who has name them like a set, Im sure they did it with love and maybe it was the right thing for the family, but its just not for us.

I know someone who had twins, then another set of twins then a singleton. So 3 PGs and 5 LOs within 5 years.

Wow! You must have psychic super powers! Yesterday at the time you wrote to me I was having an EMCS because one sac was broken the day before.
My babies are born now!! 😄 They were 32+1 weeks, it seems little but having been in hospital having labor contractions since 28 weeks, 32 have been a massive achivement. So happy about it.
Bbabies are good and healthy only one of them is needing and oxigen mask. I havent see them since the surgery, so I am waiting in my room quite impatiently until the doctoc comes and give me the thumbs up to move around and go to see my babies. So excited!

Congratulations 🥳 well done! and now rest and get yourself well. Your babies need you so it’s important not to push yourself too hard. They’re in the best of care now. Ensure you sleep and eat and recover.
