8 weeks pregnant with twins - bleeding

Hi everyone,

I had a miscarriage in August at 5w1d. Last Wednesday, I had a private scan confirming I am carrying DCDA twins both at 7w2d with clear & healthy heartbeats.

Today Monday, at exactly 8 weeks of my pregnancy, I suddenly felt a gush of discharge - upon checking it was dark red blood. This started at 2:30pm and still carries on at the moment but not as heavy (7:30pm). No pain, just constant feeling of bloatedness and anxiety due to my history of miscarriage.

I rang EPAU but the earliest scan they can do for me is Wednesday afternoon as they are fully booked tomorrow. :(

Has anyone had a similar experience and ended well?

I've never had a multiple pregnancy but my last pregnancy was a complete nightmare for bleeding. I had several large bleeds and baby was totally fine! I hope you're ok. It's so scary. X

Thank you very much! Did yours last long? I’m so scared and really hope they’re okay 🤞🏼

I had this, IVF DCDA twins, bleeding heavily at 8 weeks soon after 7 week scan. I remember DH having to go out for pads for me. We were convinced we'd lost them and it was a while before I could get seen at EPU, bleeding on and off until then. However, they were both still there and heartbeats strong - there was a half developed empty sac that they thought was the cause (possibly one of them had started to divide?). Anyway, I'm now the proud mother of 9 year old twins. Sending you hope - please accept it x

I'm sorry you are experiencing this. You probably know to rest and/or stay in bed/on your sofa until your appt. No lifting or pulling either. Wishing you the very best x

@SakuraPink sadly the bleeding happened throughout the pregnancy. They think it was an issue with my placenta. I think I had bleeding in the beginning due to a subchorionic hematoma, and then huge bleeds at around 16/19/32 and 39 weeks. It was very stressful as we had been trying for 15 months and nothing happened and then within a year we had two miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy.

I had a MMC and then went on to be have MCDA twins. Had a large blend around 8 weeks and it was a sub chorionic heamtoma. They're 14
Now.. go and get checked out.

That must have been so stressful… I can’t imagine. But I guess I’d rather have that than totally miscarry in my curreng pregnancy. Sorry about your previous loss xx

I had this too at 8 weeks of pregnancy with my twins. I didn't know I had twins at the time! Went for an early scan and I found out I was having twins and they didn't know what caused it but said it can be fairly common. They're turning 2 in December.

rainbow616 · 29/10/2024 22:39

@SakuraPink I hope all is ok. Hope your scan goes well x

ChillWith · 29/10/2024 23:46

Good luck tomorrow, OP. We're all thinking of you x

DappledOliveGroves · 31/10/2024 12:29

@SakuraPink - how was the scan?

SakuraPink · 01/11/2024 23:07

Hi everyone, thank you for your reassurance and well wishes! The twins are fine and they didn’t know where the bleeding came from.. they found a 1cm space on the ultrasound that might be it, but not entirely sure. I’m so glad they’re fine!!! ❤️

I am so pleased for you. I had a miscarriage and then bled pretty much through my entire second pregnancy, very stressful but, my lovely 17 year old daughter was worth the stress.
Congratulations, look after yourself. Once you have had a miscarriage it is very hard to be optimistic 💐.
