Screening Test - vanishing triplet.

Hi,
I don’t know if anyone might have any advice here but I am pregnant with triplets but unfortunately one isn’t viable. I am coming up to my 12 week scan but I have read a lot on private NIPT tests that they won’t do it for A)triplets and B) vanishing twins which puts me somewhere in the middle of that.
will the NHS be able to do screening? Does anyone have any experience of this or similar thing with vanishing twin? Worried about getting accurate results as there is still a GS, Yolk sac and embryo but no heartbeat it just hasn’t developed in around 3 weeks.
thanks in advance.

Hi - I had a vanishing triplet, my twins are now 4. You're right that they can't do NIPT but they can still do other checks based on nuchal fold, etc. It's less accurate, but still a very good indication (NIPT is pretty recent and it's the way that was used before its introduction, including for my older singleton).

Thank you @LittleRedY0shi
im worried the blood test might show something bad because of the third embryo.
my scan is tomorrow so can see what they say. I wondered if I got good NT results whether to not do the bloods.
I’ve been struggling a lot with anxiety so just don’t want to put any more stress into the situation by potentially a false positive blood.

How did you get on @30somethingttc?

30somethingttc · 23/04/2024 21:20

Hi @CadyEastman
Thank you for asking
no screening tests could be done.
they said due to the triplet still being there, it was a high chance that our third baby could had one of the things they screen for hence it not developing past 7ish weeks. They said it could be a false positive and the only way to confirm would be through invasive tests which we weren’t prepared to do.
so they did the scan and said we have to make peace with the fact there wasn’t any obvious markers for any problems and will have to wait and see for the 20 week scan!
xx

Hi @30somethingttc,
I was wondering how are things? I am pregnant with triplets and at the last scan measurements for one of them looked a bit off. 12w scan tomorrow.

Hi @AngelsTrumpet
sorry to hear that ones measurements were off. How did your scan go? Got everything crossed it went well.

I had it confirmed as a vanishing triplet. I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant with two of the babies. It’s been a bit of a hard journey as they’ve measured small since our 12 weeks and we are currently having regular growth scans to make sure we get them out at optimal timing - but apart from that we are getting excited for their arrival! xx

Hi @30somethingttc, thanks for letting me know! Praying for you and your babies, that they keep growing and keep healthy❤
The scan went well, thanks! All babies looked healthy and now measuring within range. We'll have to decide whether to keep them all or reduce to reduce risks.
