triplets - haven't been on the twins thread for ages - I am so sorry to hear your news.

I would be honest with the kids if I were you - and that includes that none of you know how it will end - not even the doctors.

I would also have a look at the Winston's wish site.

Hopefully being triplets they can help each other cope with what is going on - encourage them to talk it through with each other - they will be able to talk to each other on their own level.

TiggerOfDevon · 29/03/2008 10:20

Triplets I am so for you. I was hoping so hard that it was going to be something simple.
I think maybe be flexible with the truth when it comes to the children, just my humble opinion. You know how much that they can handle,if you think some things are best left unsaid then don't feel that you have to say them. You'll know whats right being the wonderful mum that you are.

Grrrr...life is pants sometimes

Morning Shabby!!!! Sorry about the mess dear, but when you said where you lived I thought it was an invite

shabster · 29/03/2008 10:29

TiggerOfDevon · 29/03/2008 11:10

ROFL at the mental picture of a Greek Bet Lynch!!!!!

frumpygrumpy · 29/03/2008 11:18

Hi Horse. How apt that you should pop in last night of all nights! What timing.

Triplets Your mind must be spinning. Thats some plan!! I will be a long haul getting through all the chemo. That in itself can make people feel so ill and exhausted. But great news the bits on the liver having jumped onto the right bits, that is something.

FWIW, I have always, always felt that the total and whole truth is best. Its only the language that has to be adapted for children. I'm annoyed some of your friends think you should hide it. Why cover it up? Do your children not deserve to have their feelings taken into account? They are part of this family too. If they know the truth they will also be able to learn one of lifes greatest lessons - how to cope.

The mind creates a hundred thoughts when it has only half truths and what ifs to go on.

How is H? Talking to you about it? Hiding?

Have you started a thread on here about it? I wondered if any MNers who have recently been through this or are going through similar might be able to support you?

Darling Triplets. Take a deep breath in. Repeat after me. Its going to be a big year. And then it will be better.

Has your headache gone?

shabster · 29/03/2008 11:29

You are a very wise grasshopper Frumpster.

So agree with your words. Think I already said to Trips - My DS1 coped with so much sadness with help from family - it has made him a wonderful, compassionate man. I always told him the truth and tried not to hide anything. When the hospital said I could go in to see Matt after he had died I took Dan in with me - most of my family and friends were horrified that I had done that. Only last week he remarked that he was so glad I had done, because he would have built up a much worse picture without the truth.

Being taught how to cope with hard times when you are a child is, I think, one of the most important lessons we can ever learn.

ChopsTheDuck · 29/03/2008 11:42

I'm so sorry to hear the news wasn't better, triplets.

I think fg is talking a lot of sense. You need some time to get your head around it all, then you will be able to think a bit clearer. Take things one step at a time.

Sending you lots of hugs from the chops household. Xxx

triplets · 29/03/2008 12:39

Hi all,
Just a quickie as I am up to my armpits. Thank you all for your lovely words, do not know what I would do without you all.

Horse......of course I remember you, and its strange because one of our ladies on here the lovely Shabster is the very lady you so kindly sent the computer to!

Frumpy, lovely words........
We told the children this morning, it was heartbreaking, Rebecca instantly burst into tears and was physically shaking, then the boys cried too. We explained that Daddy has cancer that has grown inside him and that is why he has been going to the toilet alot lately. We also said that is why we have had to have other people picking them up from school lately as Daddy has been going to see the doctors. I have said that Daddy is not going to die, we are lucky that they have found it and that they can take it away. We explained he will need other treatment which might make him feel poorly at times and that it may take along time to make him better, but he will be. We told them today as H`s sister is here for the w/end and I shall be sleeping in Beccas room, thought that way she will not be on her own, and we can have lots of cuddles and girly giggles which made her laugh. So..............onwards and upwards! Love you all xxx

Well done my lovley mucker - you have done the very best thing for all of you. You will probably get loads of questions but just answer them as truthfully as you can. You will be able to teach them that, as adults, they should stand and fight their corner rather than run from problems.

I am so proud of you.

Egg · 29/03/2008 13:20

Triplets sounds like you told them in the best way possible. Esp warning them that although daddy will get better it may take a long time so they are prepared. You are such a star.

shabster · 29/03/2008 13:25

She is a star Egg you are right

I feel so relieved that they have all had the conversation. I was willing trips and DH to tell the children and praying they would find the 'right' words. Cant say enough how proud I am of my great friend.

Egg · 29/03/2008 13:30

I've never been able to do cartwheels

shabster · 29/03/2008 13:34

Me neither Egg

oooggs · 29/03/2008 13:43

triplets - I am really sorry about your news. I think you were both very brave telling the children. Stay strong and be there for each other x

oooggs · 29/03/2008 13:44

Well on another note

WE HAVE MADE IT!!!!!!!!

Erin and Jack are one today!!!!!!!

shabster · 29/03/2008 13:46

WOW Ooogs - how wonderful - Happy Birthday to the MiniOoogs - WOW xxxxx

piximon · 29/03/2008 13:48

Triplets, I'm sorry to hear it wasn't better news, but now you have a plan of action and at least that can be started.

I believe you did the right thing in telling the children, they would have picked up on it anyway and it's better that this way they will feel they can discuss any questions they have with you and that you and H are not keeping secrets or whispering around corners which is in itself really unsettling for a child.

We are all here for you in anyway we can be. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

Much love to you and your family.
