Comments from strangers - it's a first!

DTs are almost a year old. I'm used to the "ooh, double trouble!" and "you've got your hands full" comments. To be honest I don't mind it, it's just a bit boring hearing the same old thing over and over and doing a polite smile and response.

But today, mid way through the food shop... a woman stopped and just beamed at them. She looked and me and said "twins? Oooh, how lucky!". It was so genuine I had to thank her, because it was so lovely.

Whilst I haven't had twins myself I have identical twin Goddaughters.. they are now adults but I can identify with the comments..funniest was pushing them in a pink pushchair, pink snowsuits and pink hats.. I was stopped by a total stranger who just said..'What are they?'..
'Babies' I said! I spent lots of time with them.. I was at their birth as I was a neonatal nurse.. I cared for them and got close to the parents..I became unofficial nanny then their godmother...it was a joy to be in their lives...x

How lovely! So many of the comments I get when out and about with mine are negative in the "oh you must be shattered" way, but it really makes me smile when someone says something genuinely kind.

I used to reply to double trouble with double the cuddles! On their first New Year’s Day dh had to work so I took 4 month old twins and Dd age 3 for a walk in the country park to get fresh air and the most awful man looked horrified and went on and on about how awful it must be having twins. Twins were peacefully sleeping and dd1 and I were having a lovely time. Dd asked why the angry man thought my life must be a nightmare and I had to explain it to her. I think I said something like I don’t think he likes children but I do so that’s okay then, just as well he didn’t have twins and I did.

To be fair, dd1 wasn’t overly excited to have 2 baby sisters 😆 she’s 15 and they’re almost 12 and she admits she mostly likes having them around!

i do love having twins by the way. We laugh a lot in this house.

How beautiful! The majority of the remarks I get while I'm out and about with mine are unkind in the "oh you must be shattered" sense, so when someone says something truly nice, it actually makes me grin. baseball 9
