Hiya, I’ve got 19 week old corrected twins, they’re sleep is a mess! We’re putting them to bed earlier and earlier because they are napping a max of 30 minutes at a time in the day, so by 5:30 they’re raging. I’ve read so much different advice online im clueless now. They’re sleeping at night ish but it’s all over the place, 3 nights ago it was about 5 wake ups and took ages to settle, then 2 nights ago they only woke up for food twice, then last night one absolutely tanked a bottle 3 hours after bed and then fed both 3 hours later, then they’re both up at 5:30 😩
I know I’m probably asking a lot, but how can I get them to nap more in the day and then hopefully they’ll sleep better. I’d really love them getting up at 7 🙏 any advice TIA!

Should add it all seemed to go downhill after the stupid clock change and they’ve been off kilter ever since really.

What have you tried for the daytime naps @Tamarina?

Tamarina · 29/11/2022 06:30

@PritiPatelsMaker we used to be able to put them down, dummy in, and basically held it there to soothe them, or they’d settle down immediately without anything. Now it’s frantic rocking and takes as long as the nap. They sleep in the pram but inconsistently. I can’t feed them down like I used to, I can’t hold them and contact nap. We use white noise and a darkened room like bedtime, same sleep suits.

Ok so you've tried a lot. As long as they're getting enough milk, they should sleep, it might just be a case of finding out what works for them.

My DSIL had sone success by not putting them in the cot to sleep.

And I've heard good reports about the No Cry Nap Solution too Flowers

PritiPatelsMaker · 29/11/2022 07:36

Oh and my DSI

PritiPatelsMaker · 29/11/2022 07:38

Don't know how I managed to post half a sentence 🤦‍♀️

My DSIL also had some success with swaddling. I don't know how you feel about trying that? Both of mine hated it but it worked with the DNS.

I barely remember those days! But do they wake each other up? That can be hard to deal with. I realised that when mine got fussy it was generally because they needed another bottle, even if they'd had one recently so maybe offer a bottle. For naps i had a breastfeeding cushion like a big U shape, and id lay them down on it (with me sat in the middle as if i was going to feed them) and that way i could turn the lights off, stroke their heads and sing to them. Stroking from forehead down the nose helped as it would encourage them to close their eyes. I then couldn't move for an hour so id make sure the tv remote was in reach. If they're too big for a feeding cushion, then two little bouncy chairs, sit in between them and do the same - calm and quiet, singing, shushing or white noise.

You're not doing anything wrong. If it was one baby i think it would be a lot easier to cope with. Do you have an involved partner? Me and my dh would take one baby each overnight then swap the next night so neither of us were both having to deal with twins overnight - just a singleton. But dh was at work so daytimes were mostly down to me. We would get settled in a routine then they'd have a growth spurt and we would be back to square one again!

@PritiPatelsMaker they were swaddled but unfortunately one of them is a serial roller now so I don’t dare, I might try with the other one though! She is yet to roll. Thanks for the link will have a look 🙂

@OldReliable thank you, we’re working well as a team so far at night, it’s just so baffling that she does it on the dot every night! And now it’s 4am the last two nights as well urgh.

How are you getting in now @Tamarina

Has there been any improvement?

TinyTeacher · 28/12/2022 10:50

Any better yet? I remember that phase as being the absolute pit of doom for sleep. Naps got much better a month later so hope youve soon the same

What feeding and napping routine are they on during the day? What is an example of their wake-up and bedtime?
