Help with cars

Hi All,

We've just found out we are expecting twins and although extremely excited we're coming up with lots of practical issues, the main one being a car.

We already have a 2 year old so we need to be able to fit 3 car seats in. Currently we have a 3 door fiesta which has been fine (although awkward) we would look at selling or part exchanging this.

The twins are a complete surprise and we've not really got the budget for a brand new car but to be honest I have no idea where to start.

I keep seeing conflicting information so was wondering if you can share what cars you have, and plus points to them? Also any cars to avoid?

Thank you in advance x

Firstly congratulations on your twin pregnancy, I know you must feel like a deer in the headlights at the moment but it will all be ok.

I'd say your best bet would be a Ford Galaxy or a Seat Alhambra - both are 7 seaters but the middle 3 seats are all isofix compatible. In fact the Alhambra all 5 seats in the back are isofix - as well as having sliding doors. However the Alhambra's are much trickier to come by (well in our area anyway)

We have a Ford Galaxy, mainly because it came with a really high spec despite being quite a few years old.

Congratulations!
we have a Citroen grand Picasso, 3 in the back are all full size isofix seats and two fold up ones in the boot are handy for friends/family. We love the car and there’s enough room for our preschooler to duck under the twins seats to get to his in the middle.
to try and get around the cost we toyed with the idea of putting older one in the front and me sitting between the twins in the back…right up until a couple of weeks before they were born. But I’m so glad we didn’t, I really didn’t fit! Also joie juva car seats are the slimmest we could find and also super light! Bit basic compared to others but we loved them when having to grab two at once.

If you do not have a budget then get a Merc S class or Lexus LS series.

Oh, no budget for a brand new car. Maybe a used lexus LS?

I would avoid an SUV. When your children get to 3 they can simply climb into an estate or saloon whereas with an SUV you have the hassle of lifting them in.

Ford S max will also work for 3 safe baby seats in a row.

Do not get a Citroen grand Picasso. We got one when I had newborn twins and a 3 yo. 17 reg - only 2 years old at the time.
Amazing - loads of room , could fit the car seats in comfortably but had nothing but problems with it. Absolute nightmare car.

Vw sharan. Massive inside. 7 seater, but you can take any of the back 5 out to make configuration you want, pram space etc
