Having a 'normal' delivery

Wondering if anybody knows of anybody or has themselves had a successful vaginal delivery with twins (or more!)?
Had previous vaginal delivery with DC1 and Ecs DC2.

Yes, I know several. Often depends on the presentation of both babies. Mine were both breech, so had an elective csection on doctors’ advice.

Yes I did. It was an induction and the hospital screwed it up but as far as the actual birthing bit went, it was about as natural as induced births get - on my own, no meds, and standing up for Twin 1, on my side for Twin 2 (by that time with bunch of people having run in).

Both mine were head down from about 28w and didn't have room to budge after that!

🙋‍♀️Me. Had to have forceps for twin one and ventouse for twin two.
It seems to be 50/50 among my multiple mum friends as to what kind of birth they had… all depending on position of twin one. My twin two was breech for weeks and they weren’t concerned as they are used to delivering twin two breech. He did actually go head down at 33w (no idea how he managed to turn as there can’t have been much room!)

Thank you for your replies, it's comforting to know it can be done! Smile

Mine ended up both being delivered by forceps. They were both head down when I went into labour, but the lead twin had a big head and was presenting awkwardly.

I know of some twin mums who have birthed naturally, but the risks of interventions are higher with twins.

If your twins are sharing a placenta i would be really nervous about a natural birth. I had my twins by c section. Even though they were born minutes apart the second baby was short of oxygen when he came out. If it had been a natural birth he could have been in there ages after his brother was born and I do believe he would have been at risk. Where the babies each have their own placenta I believe the risks are lower.

BluebellsGreenbells · 25/07/2021 16:51

I did. Fairly straight forward as both head down.

BluebellsGreenbells · 25/07/2021 16:51

Oh and they usually two doctors need to agree to you having vaginal birth and you pre sign the forms for a c section should it become necessary

SAHMavectwinnies · 26/07/2021 22:44

I did it 🙋🏻‍♀️ with identicals (shared placenta). Spontaneous labour at 34wks+5. I was Due to be induced at 36 weeks.

I had an epidural at 5cm…advised as they often have to hold the second twin in place after first is born which could be uncomfortable but I had a great labour and birth.

You’re meant to have a team of about 12 people or something on standby inc a doctor for each baby but my delivery was quick so they all missed it (twins were only 30 seconds apart, twin2 required no pushing at all)!

The hospital should talk you through everything but feel free to message me with any questions 😊

SAHMavectwinnies · 26/07/2021 22:45

A c section was never even discussed for me. No forms to sign, etc 🤷🏻‍♀️ Must depend on the hospital

TwinsandTrifle · 26/07/2021 22:49

Had mine elective c section. Was too concerned about the likelihood of complications with multiples that would result in intervention/c section anyway.

Credit to anyone who's done it all the natural way.

Elverybaby · 26/07/2021 22:56

Yes, twins. Had to get an epidural in case they had to do an emergency section (one could have been born vaginally and one by section!) But both born vaginally.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2021 23:01

My friend did. Boy/girl twins so no shared placenta, and both head down. She had an epidural just in case and actually had an easier time than I did with a single baby around the same time.

isurvived3under2 · 06/08/2021 17:46

Yes, vaginal birth with twins, twin 2 was born breech. It can be done if the babies cooperate. It's not without risk though!
