Anyone expecting twins April/May?

Hi!

I’ve recently found out that I’m expecting twins early May. Over the moon and super excited but obviously also a little nervous! I have a DD who will be 3 just before the twins arrive. Anyone else here expecting twins around the same time? Would be great to have someone to chat to who is going through the same thing!! x

@Louisa4987 That’s really great to hear! Pleased you are all doing well and that it was a positive experience for you. What have you done about people seeing the babies or what will you do once lockdown lifts?

@Natalie8984 I’m so sorry to hear about your bad news. Hopefully they will be able to offer you some help and advice on Monday. Just keep looking after yourself, eating right and taking care of those babies.

Amelia891 · 07/01/2021 16:12

@Natalie8984 I’m so sorry to hear your news, really hope you get all the answers and support you need on Monday, will be thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed.

@Louisa4987 that’s so reassuring to hear! I also had an episiotomy the first time round. So glad you’re doing well.

@Natalie8984 I’m so sorry you’re going through this, it must have been so scary to get that news. As @Weenie12 mentioned could the Twins Trust help? I think they have a helpline, maybe speaking to someone would help? Will be hoping for the best for you on Monday anyway.

TheMagicDeckchair · 07/01/2021 20:22

@Louisa4987 I can completely understand the relief of having them- I’m only 21 weeks and seem enormous, and an existing back injury has flared up. I spend as much time lying down or in the bath as I can get away with. Glad to hear that you had a good delivery. How are you managing?

TheMagicDeckchair · 07/01/2021 20:26

@rosegoldivy due date is 18 May, but it will be sooner than that as that is 40 weeks. It’s such a shock when you hear that news isn’t it, I don’t think I will ever forget that moment!

The thought though that I’ve still maybe another 4 months to go and can only get bigger is awful. I am already struggling!

Natalie8984 · 08/01/2021 18:23

Thanks @Weenie12 do you mind me asking did it stay stable or did they need to intervene at all? I will def have a look at twins trust sign up for more info because google isn’t giving me much hope at this point! I’m just nervous as it’s so early and I know they don’t like to do anything until closer to 18 weeks.

Thanks ladies just trying my best to stay strong and have hope I’m just exhausted by it all. Hope everyone else is doing well xx

Weenie12 · 08/01/2021 19:20

@Natalie8984 of course, didn’t want to jump straight in with my story as it’s just one example and also we don’t really have an outcome yet. It didn’t look like it was progressing very fast, but if we’d continued to do nothing there’s no way both (or either really) would have survived to term. So I had the laser ablation surgery- the procedure was fine, not painful at all. There were so many staff in the room all doing different jobs and my husband was allowed to be there throughout (this was early December). Spent the night in hospital for observation and was scanned the next day, then allowed home as all looked fine. Scanned again the following week and blood flow and fluid had evened out really well so the surgery had done exactly what we were hoping for.
However a week after that my waters started leaking, which I think is one of the more likely complications, probably to do with an infection. That was at 21 weeks and somehow we’re all still hanging in there at 23+4 now and just trying to keep going as long as possible.
I still think we did the right thing going for the surgery to give them both a chance but it’s just an unbelievably stressful time. Not quite sure how we’re getting through, just not thinking ahead at all.
Sorry it’s not a totally reassuring story but I hope it helps at least to know I know some of how you’re feeling. Happy to answer any other questions if I can x

Natalie8984 · 09/01/2021 12:56

@Weenie12 Thank you for sharing with me. It’s great to hear they both made it through the surgery and I really hope they hang in there as long as possible for you. I have read a lot of ladies waters breaking early after the surgery but without trying it the outcome could be much worse. I’m trying to get through day by day and get all my facts and questions together for fetal medicine on Monday. Did you have your surgery in London? I am in Belfast so no where does it here so we have been told to get travel documents in order and be prepared to go. This is mentally the most challenging thing It’s too much to compute but like you all these women are going through it and remain positive it really gives me hope.

Weenie12 · 09/01/2021 14:36

@Natalie8984 Ah the stress of logistics on top of everything else is so not what you need. Yes I had mine at Queen Charlotte’s in London - I’d been having all my scans there and have now transferred my care there completely. I live outside London so it’s less convenient than my local hospital but not the end of the world. I get the sense that they more often do the laser surgery at Kings but I think some of the team at least cover both hospitals. They’ve all been great and very matter of fact with me, which I needed (though I do wish someone would give me a pat on the back and say I’m doing a good job!!) and I trusted the surgeon completely. They want it to work for you.

If you decide to go for the surgery, ask for any information you can get on how to prevent infection (though I’m not sure it’s anything you can control all that much beyond usual hygiene etc). I wasn’t advised to go on bed rest afterwards but I think in hindsight I’d have done that for myself anyway for a couple of weeks to give things the best chance of settling down.

TheMagicDeckchair · 11/01/2021 22:21

@Natalie8984 did your appointment go ok today?

Amelia891 · 12/01/2021 17:24

@Natalie8984 thinking of you and hope your appointment went ok yesterday.

I’ve had a very scary 24 hours. Had a big bleed completely out of the blue last night, so much and so quickly that DH had to call an ambulance. I was convinced we were loosing them both. After a scary night and scans/tests, both twins are doing fine and turns out I have placenta previa. They are keeping me in for a few more days for observation but just so happy both my girls are ok but feeling very shaken up still.

Hope everyone else is doing ok and their twins are behaving!

TheMagicDeckchair · 12/01/2021 18:50

@Amelia891 I’m sorry you’ve had such a scary night. Will you need to have further monitoring with the placenta being where it is?

I’m managing but feeling huge. I have a proper pregnancy waddle already (only 22 weeks) and struggling with my back and mobility. No idea how I’ll manage as I get bigger.

Amelia891 · 13/01/2021 07:07

I’m already being scanned every 10 days (due to the fact they are mcda) so not sure if that will be enough or if they will up it even more. Reading a lot of reassuring things though online, once diagnosed it’s perfectly manageable, just have to be prepared for more bleeds. Can’t believe my consultant didn’t mention before it was low though! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m not allowed to do any ‘unnecessary activity’ until they arrive now (which will be interesting with a 2 year old!!!)

@TheMagicDeckchair have you tried pregnancy yoga? I find some of the stretches really help when I’m feeling achey.

OP posts:
Amelia891 · 23/01/2021 08:15

How is everyone? X

OP posts:
TheMagicDeckchair · 23/01/2021 09:25

Hi @Amelia891 thanks for the yoga tip. Done some stretches that helped, just a case now of keeping the balance between being mobile and not overdoing it. I have total mum guilt about not being able to play with DD properly at the moment but hopefully it’s not forever. And others can pick up a bit of the slack whilst I’m incapacitated.

How are you finding things now? Have you had any further bleeds?

Emsix · 23/01/2021 19:55

Can I join? Expecting b/g twins in May. Have two other children aged 6 and 8. It was a big shock there were two in there when we found out! Don’t know anyone that has had twins so although I’m already a mum this feels like terrifying new territory! Hope everyone is feeling okay xx

rosegoldivy · 24/01/2021 07:56

@amelia891 how have you been? I have just caught up on your update, hoping you haven't had any more bleeds and are managing all the rest you can.

I'm 22 weeks tomorrow, I am struggling with the tiredness at night and my hip has begun to ache slightly 😭 but I finally stopped being sick at about 18 weeks so it's a lot better than throwing up 6/8 times a day!!

TheMagicDeckchair · 25/01/2021 19:54

Welcome @Emsix I know how you feel about being a parent but feeling like a first timer all over again with having two!

@rosegoldivy the aches and pains and mobility issues are starting to get me down. You expect it as you come close to your due date, but not in the second trimester! My bump is constantly growing and I don’t know how much further my stomach can stretch!

When is everyone planning on going on mat leave? I should get my MATB1 form tomorrow at my midwife appointment. Have told my boss it will probably be March but not sure at the moment whether that’ll be early or end of. My cover starts next week so I need to train her for a least a month. Hope I can hang on that long!

Amelia891 · 27/01/2021 11:17

Thanks @rosegoldivy I’m doing ok! Moderate bedrest is dull but obviously I will do anything possible to keep the twins in for longer, my poor DH is doing everything for our daughter and round the house, it’s hard to not feel guilty. But no more bleeds so far and scan on Monday showed both twins are doing well, one is still a fair bit smaller but she is still putting on weight so no one is too worried yet. Very glad to hear your sickness has stopped that must have been horrible!

@TheMagicDeckchair I know what you mean about the mobility/aches and pains! I was comparing pics from when I was pregnant with my DD and I am the same size now at 26 weeks as I was at her 39 weeks!!

Welcome @Emsix and congrats!

Has anyone got names picked yet? x

Natalie8984 · 07/02/2021 17:47

Hi everyone, sorry it has taken me a few weeks to write this but unfortunately we didn’t make our appointment on Monday the 11th to fetal medicine as my twins boys were born sleeping that morning at 4.44 and 4.47am at 16 +4 weeks. I went into labour in the middle of the night and my waters broke. We named them Noah and Tobin our two little angels. I was very unwell and had developed sepsis so that combined with the twin to twin brought on early labour. There was a 50% size difference in the boys so they didn’t really have a chance. I hope everyone else has a healthy pregnancy I wish you all the best and I hope @Weenie12 you had a good outcome. Thanks for all your support x

TheMagicDeckchair · 07/02/2021 19:28

@Natalie8984 I am so very sorry to read your latest update. Please look after yourself and I’ll be thinking of you. X

Weenie12 · 08/02/2021 17:49

@Natalie8984 I’m so sorry to hear your boys didn’t make it. I was really hoping for the best for you. What beautiful names you chose.

My boys arrived on the 24th of Jan at 25+6. They’re both still fighting - and it really is a fight every day but they are incredible x

TheMagicDeckchair · 08/02/2021 18:32

@Weenie12 thank you for your update, I’m keeping everything crossed for your boys. I am 25+6 today, and I’m very much aware that anything can happen from now. Glad to hear they are fighting. Please update if you feel able to. X

ivfbeenbusy · 24/02/2021 13:12

Sorry I haven't been around for a while either - sorry to hear your news @Natalie8984 and @Weenie12 glad your boys are fighting

I stated to get bleeding in December around 28 weeks and then was pretty much in and out of hospital until January with huge bleeds and clots. Ended up having my boy/girl twins in January at 34 weeks following a placental abruption and haemorrhage - luckily I was already in the Hospital- ironically waiting to collect my discharge paperwork. They literally had them out 15 mins later

Twins were in NICU/SCBU for 3 weeks but home now.

I also had a significant size difference between the twins - we knew the girl twin would be smaller but the estimated weights from the scan got them totally wrong - little twin was born at 4lbs and big twin at 6lbs which was a much bigger difference than anyone expected

TheMagicDeckchair · 24/02/2021 19:43

@ivfbeenbusy congratulations on the arrival of your twins, sounds like an eventful delivery. How are you managing at home?

@Weenie12 I hope your boys are still fighting. It must be such a rollercoaster.

How is everyone else doing? Do any of you have planned induction/c-section dates yet? Lead twin was breech at my last scan so we need to see if he turns head down over the next couple of scans to make a decision whether I’ll try a natural birth or have a planned section.
