Anyone expecting twins April/May?

Hi!

I’ve recently found out that I’m expecting twins early May. Over the moon and super excited but obviously also a little nervous! I have a DD who will be 3 just before the twins arrive. Anyone else here expecting twins around the same time? Would be great to have someone to chat to who is going through the same thing!! x

@Amelia891 the flat carrycots transform into parent facing toddler seats from my understanding so you don’t even need to buy two more seats.

Snailandthewhale · 11/11/2020 19:55

There's a separate fabric that you use on the carrycot frame. I think the fabric comes with the carrycot+ bundle

This is a good page if you're looking for 2nd hand/advice - wish I'd known about it!

Hi All! I’m 26+1 with DCDA twin girls. All going well pregnancy wise so far except the soul destroying Hyperemesis which is still very active despite being days away from my third trimester 😭 Growing twins is HARD

xbambi · 12/11/2020 00:02

*Correction - they aren’t DCDA twins and now I have major baby brain and can’t remember which type they are 😂 They are most likely fraternal as diff placentas/sacs

xbambi · 12/11/2020 00:04

actually... they are 😂😂😂 Now I sound very crazy but like I said... growing twins is hard 😂

TheMagicDeckchair · 12/11/2020 07:40

@xbambi I left my handbag on a shopping trolley and didn’t realise until I got home 6 miles away. Luckily someone had handed it in! Everything is amplified in a twin pregnancy, including baby brain.

I bet you’re looking forward to meeting them now?

Amelia891 · 12/11/2020 16:34

Welcome @xbambi Oh no hope your sickness stops soon.

@TheMagicDeckchair I left my keys in the front door when I went out the other day! Luckily we have nice neighbours who locked up and looked after them for me!! Serious baby brain, I’ve never ever done that before.

Had a bit of a crappy afternoon, fell down a bit of a google rabbit hole reading some scary statistics about my type of twins and now trying to snap out of this mood because I want to actually enjoy this pregnancy and not worry the whole time 😓

What are you all planning for your twins to sleep in? Are you keeping them together to sleep to start with?

@Amelia891 I asked this exact question on another thread. At the moment I’m thinking of buying two regular cots, one for my bedroom and one for the living room. The one in my bedroom I think I’d need to be drop side so I can have it by my bed like a co-sleeper. I was planning to have them together (all being well) until they roll or start disturbing each other. Then, the living room cot will have to move into the bedroom. Other option for bedroom or living room sleeping is the pram or carry cots on stands.

What were you thinking?

TheMagicDeckchair · 12/11/2020 18:25

DD has always been an awful sleeper so I started co-sleeping with her when she was around a year. We put a double mattress on her floor and I sleep next to her there. Currently we have an open cot bed next to the mattress (in the vain hope DD might use it) which is slightly higher than the mattress. My thinking is we’ll probably convert that back to a three sided cot and have the twins in there, whilst one of us sleeps next to them. DD can go in with the other parent in our bed.

If I’d had a baby who was happy to go in her own room I’d have done that but DD is high needs and got so distressed if I even laid next to her in the cot, that she wasn’t next to me. Kept falling asleep with her in bed anyway so we decided to do it safely.

I’m quite pro attachment parenting when it comes to sleeping (and I find DD quite comforting to sleep next to when she isn’t kicking me or stuffing her feet in my bra) so if we all end up in a big bed in years to come it won’t bother me!

Gidget19 · 12/11/2020 19:08

@TheMagicDeckchair do you, or anyone else, have any three sided cot recommendations? It’s hard to see which ones will still be structurally sound with only three sides.

TheMagicDeckchair · 12/11/2020 20:28

@Gidget19 ours is a Mamas and Papa’s cotbed. We bought it reduced from the factory outlet. It’s been fine with DD grabbing it with only three sides up. DD didn’t start pulling up until she was about 9 months or so, at which point you could put all the sides up. They won’t be doing much in the early months.

ivfbeenbusy · 12/11/2020 21:29

I'm going to have a cot in our room that they can share while they are small and also a Chico next to me which we can alternative babies with depending on who needs feeding next 🤣

Then they'll have a cot each in their room from 6 months

DD was a terrible sleeper too (still is!) so we've fitted a single bed in the twins room so I can sleep in their room be close to them if needs be - better than the floor which had to sleep on when DD was in her cot!

Amelia891 · 14/11/2020 08:35

We have a Tutti Bambini Next to Me which we had with DD, it’s a bit bigger than the more popular next to me cots (Snuzpod and Chicco) so hoping they might both be in that for a little bit. My best friend is lending me her Chicco (I will buy a new mattress) which I will keep downstairs for their naps then when they get too big move it upstairs for one to go in at nighttime. Although then I have no idea what they will sleep in downstairs...I have yet to figure that out!

DD is still in the cotbed but hoping she will be in a single soon so then I only have to get one more big cot for the twins room when they move in there at 6 months. Not sure whether to try and get her out of it before the twins arrive so there aren’t too many changes for her or whether to just leave it for now as she is happy and technically I won’t need it until next September ish. She still has the sides up and is a fab sleeper and I’m convinced she will just get up and play and mess around if we put her in a single. And I kind of want to make the most of sleeping now whilst I still can 😅

Ladies who are further on than me- when did you start to feel kicks? I’m almost 16 weeks and I swear I’ve felt a few little ones this week.

Gidget19 · 14/11/2020 08:52

@Amelia891I’m 19 weeks and have felt nothing. They were both very active during my last scans so I know they do move but I haven’t felt them at all.

ivfbeenbusy · 14/11/2020 09:12

@Amelia891

Both my placentas are anterior but I started to feeling things around 17 weeks but then they moved position I think and then it was about 20 weeks and then 22 weeks before felt regularly and can see stomach move and DH can feel them? Some days they are quiet if I've been busy - mine tend to be most active in the middle of the night!

Amelia891 · 16/11/2020 12:05

Good luck with your scan today @TheMagicDeckchair

Found out today I’m having two girls!! So happy. Consultant appt went well. They’re both measuring a little on the small side but Dr said she think maybe my dates aren’t quite right and that’s probs why. So nothing to worry about :) Hope everyone is doing ok! X

Gidget19 · 16/11/2020 19:55

@Amelia891Woohoo! Congratulations on two little girlies and great to hear all is going well. Mine are two girls as well which I’ll double, check at my 20 wk scan on Thursday. Also, I definitely felt someone move for the first time today.

TheMagicDeckchair · 16/11/2020 19:57

@Amelia891 thank you! The scan went well today, I’m measuring 13+6 so further on than I thought. Was a mix up with appointments as they’d charged my date to next week- but that’s too late, so they got me in for a later appointment. Confirmed they are DCDA twins.

Really good news, I had my Panorama results today which came back very low risk for the trisomies. Fraternal twins. They have also given a high chance of two boys! I think my little girl will love having two little brothers to boss around. I think she might have liked a little sister but at least this way she will always be our special little girl. Just hope she doesn’t feel too left out.

TheMagicDeckchair · 16/11/2020 19:58

@Amelia891 congratulations on your little girls!

Amelia891 · 19/11/2020 10:49

Thanks so much both 🙂 And good luck at your scan today @Gidget19 . Congrats on your boys @TheMagicDeckchair ! I’m sure your DD won’t feel left out, I think she will feel really special being the only girl.

Is anyone planning on doing any online Black Friday shopping next week? I want to make the most of bargains but also feel like it might be too soon to start shopping! If anyone sees any good twin deals share them on here! xx

OP posts:
TheMagicDeckchair · 19/11/2020 18:50

@Amelia891 I don’t know whether it’s too soon to buy anything for the twins yet, I was thinking about waiting for the January sales as I’ll be past the halfway mark then. Will have to see what there is.

However if anyone’s interested Seraphine have 20% off their maternity wear if you use the code BLACK. I am definitely starting with a bump now and will be outgrowing my normal clothes soon!

Gidget19 · 19/11/2020 19:24

@Amelia891Thank you, scan went well today and both seem to be growing well and very similar in size to each other. Twin 2 had me doing all kinds of acrobatics to get her to move into a good position so will need to get her back for that one day.

As for buying stuff I feel like I can start getting small things after today so will look at Black Friday sales and Christmas sales but am not sure when to go for the bigger things.

Amelia891 · 25/11/2020 07:25

How is everyone this week? Glad your scan went well @Gidget19 !

I got a pram! I went for the Bugaboo donkey in the end, I know it’s too big for some people but a couple of twin mum friends said they loved theirs and as I live fairly rurally I don’t need to worry about getting on on public transport etc. I got it 2nd hand off eBay for £400!!! Basically unused in perfect condition. I felt like it was a bit soon to be buying things like that but it was too good a bargain to miss out on. It’s all feeling a bit more real now!!
