Donkey vs Out n About

Hi all

I am looking at prams and would love your recommendations - pregnant with twins at the moment and they are our first children.

Husband is really pushing for the out n about as he thinks the donkey is far too big and bulky and thinks the donkey won't fit in our car boots (I have a new style micra and he has a mini).

I like the look of the donkey more - what are your thoughts?

Thanks
S

Hiya

I have the bugaboo donkey and honestly slightly regret it. Its a gorgeous pram but its so wide!
I can't fit it in my front door and have to be selective with some shops and cafes. If i go to the doctors then I have to carry the babies in their car seats.

It only just about fits in my boot (i have a Peugeot 308 which has a decent boot space). I have to take the wheels off and nothing else fits in the boot - so much so i am now selling my car and buying a ford grand c-max so we have more boot space and also fitting a car seat behind the drivers seat means my husband cant drive our car as he doesnt have enough leg room.

People rave about the out and about so i would definitely consider it as its so much more compact. Xx

I’ve had a Donkey and a Mountain Buggy Duet and would choose the Duet if I had to choose again.
Congratulations and good luck!

I’ve had the out and about but not the donkey. The out and about is great. Fits through most doorways, really easy to push and folds reasonably well.

My sister has the donkey and we absolutely love it but I agree that it is very wide. We took it on a tube once and it was an absolute nightmare. It does fit through the front door but I would wait until the shops open and try it out in the boot first. Also the side basket is a lifesaver and fits loads of stuff in it for day trips

Wishing56 · 14/06/2020 08:59

@Prayingforchange just to note you can only use the sidebasket if using it as a single pram. I have never used mine as always have the pram in 'twin' mode which makes it even wider than single with basket xx

I speak as a mother of twins with experience, go for the Out and About. I know a lot of twin parents and every single one of them that went for the Donkey bought a Out and About when their twins reached one.

I have the Donkey and have used it for my twins and now my singleton. I love it, but I think it’s very lifestyle-dependent. We’re suburban, drive most places, and have access to lots of shops with plenty of space. We took the boys to Cornwall when they were 11 months and I had a little breakdown because we couldn’t get into a single shop in Padstow, and we’ve taken it on the tube but it’s always been a two-person ordeal to negotiate escalators. It’s also a bit awkward in coffee shops and similar because it’s a bit of a tank. Just worth thinking about where you’re going to be spending your time and whether it will fit in with your plans.

I've had the Donkey for a year and love it BUT I can only just fit the frame and two sets in the boot of a Qashqai, and that's folding it as small as it will go, so I think you'd struggle. It definitely wouldn't fit in DH's Mini boot.

welshweasel · 14/06/2020 22:20

With those cars the donkey is a crazy idea. The out and about is a brilliant buggy, quarter of the price abs will actually fit in your car!

Newchapter2020 · 14/06/2020 22:22

We had an out an about...absolutely loved it! Could move it with one hand, easy to move around shopping aisles, easy to take the wheels off if needed. Narrow enough to fit through our internal doors

TeddyIsaHe · 14/06/2020 22:27

Don’t get bogged down with the look of a pram, it means literally nothing.

There’s not a chance in hell you’ll get the donkey in either of your cars. I switched from a similarly large but ‘nice’ looking pram at 6 months because it was so frustrating having to navigate it all the time.

100% the out and about.
