Reusable nappies for twins

Hi all. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to do this? I currently have 2 kids - 4.5 and 3 years old and used disposable for them both. Thought I'd try reusable for my third before finding out it was going to be number 3 and 4! Due mid July and usually would have my mum come over to help (from abroad) after birth. However, with the whole covid 19 and restrictions on travel, she might not be able to come. Am I crazy to still consider reusable or should I do myself a favour and go for disposable? Anyone who has done this should please advice.

I used reusable nappies on my twins. Most of the time it worked really well, especially in the warmer months when they would dry really quickly on the line (we don’t have a tumble dryer). We did have some disposable nappies on the shelf for the odd occasion when having two in reusables wasn’t so practical, such as long days out.

I have to admit I chickened out. We used them with dd1 and kept them but for me, it was a toss up between bfing and cloth nappies - didn't have the energy for both - and bf won!

I used pampers with my first and then cloth nappies with my second from 8 weeks. I think it depends on your reasons for wanting to use reusable nappies .
I would keep several things in mind:
You need to change more often with cloth, and you might have more wee leaks at the beginning. They contain number twos much better than disposables!
If you use a birth to potty nappy, they tend to fit best from a certain weight, e.g. 10lbs so you might need a newborn set first.
Consider your indoor drying space, ours cannot go in the tumble dryer.
Check if your partner is happy to go reusable, as in, not just a good idea, but yes I'm going to learn how to fit them properly and wash them!

It would have been too much work for us to use cloth right from the start. Just getting the hang around feeding, the extra washing and new family dynamics was plenty to keep us busy.

Hi we are planning on cloth diapering our twins from when they reach 8lbsish we arent having anymore kids so didnt see the point in buying newborn cloth diapers for such a short time ! With the nappy shortage and shopping being more difficult in general I'm glad we are doing this ! We are going to breast feed too so wish us luck 😅

We used them for twins. There is a lot of washing but we used those hangers with pegs and had a drawer just for the nappies. Bamboo inserts from little lambs are great - used them in all nappy brands. Little lamb fluffy inserts too. Then a mixture of outers (all in ones or ones with wraps). It must have saved us a fortune (older ds used them first, we just bought more when the twins arrived). We had cheap eBay new born ones that we had to change very regularly, stuffed with the bamboo lamb inserts!

The upside was all were potty trained by 2. Ds was 20 months. All Night trained between 2.5 and 3. None have regressed, twins will start school in September.

And some microfibre ones same brand. Bamboo take longer to dry but absorb more, we used overnight. Microfibre dry very quickly.

Then we bought a variety of different branded wraps. Blueberry were good.

OP bear in mind too that twins tend to be smaller than other babies.

DS was so small that the tiniest Pampers (size 0, just for premies) was like a giant swaddle on him. There is just no way our old reusables would have fit him until he was several months old.

Not trying put you off but baby twins can be tough so don't beat yourself up if it doesn't work out :)

@Ummusomebody same ! And hoping save money as well nappies and formula is so expensive ! That's great you already have some experience! Hoping I can do it but all we can do is try :)

We did this. At the time my son was about 2 and my twins were about 4 months old. We invested in what we thought were the best totsbots and with every gadget etc. Come day three they were all being sent back. It bought them out in uncontrollable rashes, they were in so much pain and no matter what I did it just got worse. I couldn't put them through it so went back to disposable. Wipes on the other hand we love reusable. So much so we use them instead of toilet roll. Cheeky wipes is the brand and they are amazing, would never go back to normal wipes now or toilet roll 😂😂😂

One hack is, look for nappies second hand, people sell them when their children get too small. I've got 250 size 5 nappies for £5 before, every little helps
