Positivity please!

Hi ladies,

I have 5 month old twins and a 3yr old and I'm exhausted! To be honest I'm feeling a bit down as things seem to be getting more difficult by the day. So... hit me with some lovely twin stories/reasons why twins are wonderful and why we're so lucky and it's all worth it :)

It's hard isn't it. I'm in a similar boat (4 month old twins and a just turned 2 year old) and it's very hard. Things I do which seem to help: a regular day at the grandparents for the toddler every week; 1-2 days at nursery; 1-2 playdates where I can take them all; invite people over as my twins seem to sleep better at home and I can spend time with the toddler.

We're also moving house so things are super stressful! I can totally see that it will be worth it but I don't expect it to get easier until the twins are mobile :-(

I was in the same situation as willisurvive with the ages of my children, and I guess I hadn’t posted because the first year was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. You just have to grab on to not only the usual baby cute things but the things that remind you what an amazing thing twins are... mine are nearly 2 and ds is 3 now, and listening to the twins laugh and chat at each other when I wake up is only made even better by my son going into their room and making all three of them laugh together. It IS amazing having three little people close in age- they adore each other (but perhaps I’m lucky) they can play together and it’s wonderful to have your oldest only really know life with little siblings. Things are still hard now but they’re a happy, hilarious band of silly people and you won’t regret any of it.

My twins are ten years old and are just fantastic. They are very close, funny, kind and lovely. They support each other and have relationship together which is entirely separate to their relationship to us- I hope it will stand them in good stead through the teenage years.

I remember what it was like when they were babies. Don’t worry, it gets better.

All gets much easier as they get older. Mine are still small but they play for hours together, we are just getting out of the buggy stage and feel less like a traveling circus, everyone sleeps (mostly) I have an older one 2 and he's really enjoying their company. They are very independent as I think they naturally end up looking after themselves a bit more. Honestly it's great but I do remember how hard it can be!

Thanks everyone! It really helps just to hear that people come out the other side, and to know that'll they have each other through hard times, it must be lovely to have a twin yourself!

It’s pretty horrific isn’t it?

Our twins are now almost 18 months, and our older child is 4.

On the whole, it’s easier now. At least the night times are settled. And we’re watching a lovely twin friendship form.

It’s hard in different ways now - twin toddlers are a force of chaos and destruction, and our 4 year old has developmental difficulties which add to our stress levels.

I’m looking forward to things getting easier in the coming years.

I have 6.5 month old twins. I also have 2 older DC. It is hard. I'm not sure if it gets easier, but I feel I am managing better some days. I love seeing my DT interacting with each other. Baby cuddles are the best.

I love the lovely smiles, the baby smell, the way they wrap their little fingers around yours and snuggle in. I savour the good days and they get me through the tough days. I have hard days, when I get teary too. My GP told me, there is a higher risk of depression in parents of twins or multiples. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you're struggling.

I have 2 yo twins, no other kids! It’s a great age, they’re chatty and funny and give me cuddles and kisses all the time. This is my fave age so far. Newborn twins was hard, I could never do that again but it was worth it. Better times are on the way!

My twins are 7 months and they are wonderful. The newborn days were hard because they are our first babies. They sleep all night now. It's a lot of work but I wouldn't change it for the world. My advice is just do what you can. Take all offers of help and treat yourself. Go easy.
