Possible Quadruplets - Empty Sacs.

Hi guys,

Me and my partner had an early 8 week scan (NHS first scan is at 12 weeks) and everyone is shocked at what was seen.

As the photo shows there are 4 empty sacs. We have had many specialists look at this with blood tests and all other possibilities (including molar pregnancy) has been ruled out - IT IS QUADS!

However, as they are still empty at 8 weeks it’s very likely they haven’t sailed.

I’m trying to research if sacs take longer to develop for quads.

We should be seeing a yok sac in each one at the very least.. but nothing.

We have another scan next Friday to see what develops.

Has anyone, in multiple pregnancy, had empty sacs at 8 weeks that then developed into something?

Also, this picture shows one quite big. However all the sacs are fairly similar in size.

My earliest scan (for twins) was 9+6 and we could see two babies in their sacs, wiggling their limbs pretty clearly.

Hopefully someone closer to 8 weeks can share their experience as well.

My cousin had a 4 embryo transfer (abroad with attempt 6). At 5 weeks there were 4 sacs with no heartbeats. At week 7 there were 3 heartbeats.

Fingers crossed for you. Really hoping for good news x

No experience here but thinking of you and hope things work out x

Thanks for the replies and well wishes! This was not IVF, natural quads is like a million to one shot. Hoping for a miracle 🤞🏻

I had a scan with my twins at 7 weeks and they looked like tiny jelly babies with pretty clear heartbeats so I would have expected you to see at least yolk sack and fetal pole.

Any chance your dates could be out?

davejac · 12/04/2018 20:08

Wrong dates is all we can hope for!! At the very best we are looking about a 10 days behind, (about 6.5 weeks) so next weeks scan will be the final chance to see something I think...

Ohhshiney · 21/04/2018 08:56

How did your scan go?

Aprilmightbemynewname · 21/04/2018 08:58

Hoping for a positive update op. Flowers

Adviceplease360 · 21/04/2018 09:01

How was the scan? Flowers

Borridge · 25/04/2018 03:01

I had an 8 week scan which showed three sacs but only two heartbeats, if I recall correctly. We were told that the third sac would probably be "absorbed". By week 10 there was a third heartbeat Smile

marmitecrumpets · 26/04/2018 08:08

Any news OP?

davejac · 03/05/2018 09:47

All 4 remained as embryo sacks and did not develop. They have been removed under general anesthetic. Thank you for all your responses and well wishes. Better luck next time we hope...
