I need to moan!!!!!!

Went out for dinner last night with my DP's friend and his wife, who spent the entire night telling me how sorry they were for me as i am pregnant with twins!!!!!!

After keeping my mouth shut for a while i let rip and told them how special i felt and not everyone has a twin pregnancy.

Dp thought i might of been a little rude but i could not help myself.

How has anyone else handled these kind of situations???

I think it's rude...twins are special...like someone else said she was probably jealous...

I feel very blessed and lucky to have 2 sets.

I remember when i first experienced someones rudness of twins....i was walking through town and 2 women walked towards me talking..and one of them said to her friend..'it could be worse..it could be twins'.....oh i gave a glare.!!!

Don't blame you for the way you reacted-they were bloody rude.

Any pregancy is a blessing and twins a dpouble one!

I have had times when I have thought "why the hell did it have to be twins" but on the whole it is a very special thing. I felt extremely lucky when I was pg with mine and for months after they were born I just felt special and blessed.

I did have a lot of "oh you've got your hands full, I don't know how you cope". I used to just say "I have to, there's no other way" What annoyed me was when people would laugh and say "I'm glad its not me". The lovely people would say "I bet thats hard work, but aren't you doing a lovely job".

I can't deny I found bringing home two babies and trying to fit them into my DD1s routine extremely demanding - could it be they have children and are comparing their situation to yours?

Don't let them spoil it for you. I think you did well. I hope you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

We multiples mums meet on here on the "D'y ever ...." thread most days. Pop in anytime and join us, we promise not to say "oooh twins, do twins run in your family", are they identical" . Well, not until they're born anyway

I've lost count of the amount of these comments I've had - "You poor thing" "Your life is over" sort of thing. You get over it after a while - I just smile and let it go as it's not worth a response.

The thing that intrigues me as these comments predominantly come from white middle class people. The black and Turkish people in my area are always so positive and tell me I'm blessed. Maybe twins are valued more in some cultures? It's really interesting the different responses twins generate from people.

Just wait until you're pushing them around the supermarket .

Thanks for all your comments!!! Im suprised by the way people react when i tell them im having twins! I keep telling people i did not pre-order them and given them as a special gift.

Will sit and think of some witty comments to say to people once they are born!

Whenever anyone asks me if they're hard work I tell them that they aren't too bad actually, and that my DD helps lots. Most people down here tell me how gorgeous they are, so generally I'm quite happy with my comments! I used to get very morose about it all when I was pregnant because i didn't know how I would cope but now they're here, it's OK - so far! They aren't crawling yet ...

I find boring people to death about the boys seems to help too. They get a glazed look and next time they meet you tend to just smile and walk on ... Can't think why.

I know exactly what you mean about this one! I have lost count the number of times people stare then say,"are they triplets"? Usually followed by poor you, bet that was a shock, I dont envy you, etc. Then because we are a little older than the norm we get, "treating the grandchildren to a day out, thats nice, etc etc. So one day in a zoo park after being told how lucky we were that we would be able to take then home to their parents, I said"we ARE their parents actually, and very proud to be so, our first child died so after two stressful years of ivf we were over the moon to be given these three". Then walked off. Harry was furious with me, said I hurt their feelings, but sometimes I just get sooooooooo fed up with it, people should just think first, you never know whats happened on other peoples lives. Harry is 11 years older than me, one of the worst things was 5 years ago we took my mum on holiday with us to Majorca, she is actualy only14 years older than Harry. Anyway we were in a restaurant and met an elderly english couple who we chatted to. The following day I bumped into them in the supermarket, I was on my own. They rushed up to me and said, "oh we said last night how does that poor girl do it, three handsfull, still it is a good job you have your Mum and Dad with you!!! I never corrected them, just came out and didnt know whether to laugh or cry! Told my Mum when I got back to the apt and she laughed, amused to think she had a toy boy, never told Harry until it slipped out last Christmas, NOT amused!!

I don't have twins but of of my oldest friends does and they were a real handful. One day she was telling me that out of our old class in school 3 of the girls had gone on to have twins and my automatic response that just jumped out of my mouth without me thinking was 'oh God how awful' And she was hurt and I was wrong and sorry and I now think twice before putting my foot in it.

Your friends were very insensitive but now you have enlightened them maybe they will think in the future before they are unintentionally rude.
