My twins will be born next week!

I am being induced next week and my b/g dc/da twins will arrive.
It's been a long road with many ups and downs and I am now ready for the challenge, I think.

Any tips from twin mums/dad's to help me in my way?

Ah, lovely twins soon to be here! Mine (also boy/girl, dcda) are coming up for 19 months now. By no means do I have all the answers! Much of twin parenting is about survival and muddling through, and actually recognising that is really important. Go easy on yourself, and know that it's ok when things don't go the way you plan. My two are still not in their own room at 18 months (they sleep so badly I don't see the point in going from one room to another night after night when I can just roll over in bed), still drink bottles (my first had dropped bottles and switched to sippy cups at 12 months) and they can fight tooth and nail (none of this twins are best friends stuff).

But they're so much fun! They make us laugh daily.

In terms of practical advice, there are some things you need two of, some you don't. Definitely get two bouncer chairs if you can. A changing mat for every floor in your home. But if they're titchy (and they might be) you won't need two cots straight away - mine were six months before we split them up I think. They even shared a moses basket for a few weeks.

We've found the nappy bin with cartridges brilliant when we never bothered with our first.

Just chill, take each day as it comes, take all help offered to you. Buy second hand and sell things on. Find your local twins club, mine had been invaluable and I've made friends to boot.

My twins are 12. Buffyfan gives great advice. There will be weeks moments when you and your husband are holding one crying baby each looking at each other without a clue! The house will be a bombsite, you won't remember when you slept longer than an hour and you'll have spent quite a long time in your PJs. But that's entirely normal - babies are a massive learning curve, multiply that by 2 babies and its daunting. Don't ever think that you're not doing a good job, it really is just muddling through. That's why I agree that a local twins group is brilliant- everyone knows what its like and can give great advice.

I agree with 2 bouncy chairs and buying second hand if you can but not going overboard on ancillary stuff that you think you'll need - just wait until they're here.

Try to stock your freezer before they arrive and accept any offers of help, you will be grateful for it.

They are hard work but so rewarding - when you hear them giggling together it just melts your heart. They have such a close bond.

Totally agree on the bouncy chairs - I've got almost 6 month old twins and would not have coped without my 2 baby bjorn bouncers. They are expensive but you can buy second hand on eBay as v high quality. I just bought one to start with and tried it out, made sure they liked then bought another. Babies can go in them from 8 pounds.
Also your mum/mil wants to come and stay for a period check first that they will be happy to make dinner/do shopping/washing etc as it's great to not have to think about it but quite annoying if they think you will wait on them (like my mil when twins were 6 weeks old) my own mother was amazing!
I also loved the Cocoonababy and my babies slept really well at the start and I put it down to them - my son has been a rubbish sleeper since coming out his at 14 weeks.

Eek!!! Am so excited for you guys😀 Having twins is crazy but it is also the best thing, ever! Brace yourself and enjoy the ride!!!

Good luck! My b/g twins are just over 3 months old and I'm only starting to come out of the newborn fog! My advice would be to accept all offers of help - just having someone around to hold a baby is useful, let alone dealing with house stuff. Keep water and snacks stashed around the house, especially if you're planning on breastfeeding, I've never been as hungry as I was in the first few weeks. My stretchy sling has been a godsend - I could get them both in there but most often just schlep my clingy little girl around while her brother chills in his bouncer or Moses basket. Also build extra time in whenever you go anywhere. Everyone will want to stop you and admire your beautiful babies and ask you stupid questions like are your b/g twins identical Most of all, enjoy them! I've never done anything as hard as this in my life but it's a pretty amazing experience!

I've got a Je Porte Mon Bebe Basic - it's like a moby but there's more fabric so the babies are a bit more securely wrapped. If you've got a sling library or group nearby it's definitely worth a visit.

My twin girls are 9 months old. As mentioned above, get two Baby Bjorn bouncers. This is the best thing you will ever buy. Ever. Do it.

I went to a Tamba seminar and we were told that for the early months our goals should be to make sure that the babies are fed and clean(ish), and to get out of the house. If you've done those then your day's been a success. Don't worry about anything else. Take all the help you can and make sure that your partner (if you have one) is fully on board. The first few months are a crappy mess for most people, but it gets much better :-)

Another vote for bouncers being your best friend! My boys are three and a half now and, honestly, still bloody hard work but every day is amazing at the moment watching them bond. Can truly say I don't remember much about those first few months but reading this thread makes me miss them being little. Enjoy every second...even when you're so tired you don't know what day it is or which twin fed during the night

Oh, and find a multiples baby group near you. Was a lifesaver for me! (When you can be organised enough to leave the house)
