To share or not to share

DTS are now 2yo and 10months. They currently sleep in their cots in the same room. DH and I were discussing what we would do once they come out of the cots (hopefully not for another year).

We don't know if we should put them in the same bedroom or separate bedrooms once they move into beds. If they share a bedroom, I envisage them hopping in and out of each others bed but is that really a problem?

If they have separate bedrooms, will that cause problems for them because they are very close and do everything together (they are non-ID btw).

Of course, I know that the caveat to all this is having the space in the first place to make that kind of decision but any thoughts on the matter will be most welcome.

my two (4 today ) share a room - they do bed hop a bit but not too much and it isn't really a problem (once the novelty wears off).

We are going to go down the route of having a room for each of them (when we finally finish the extension) but will let them chose if they want to share of not.

At 2yo, the DTS spend most of the time downstairs so I'm wondering if giving them a room each is even necessary.

My twin DDs (now 5) have always shared and there hasn't been much bed hopping really. Bit of a novelty at the beginning when they first went into a bed. We put a stairgate in their doorway to stop them coming downstairs and we used to hear them crashing and banging around in their room. It would all go quiet eventually and we would creep up to find them fast asleep, laying across one another on the floor , with a trail of devastation behind them.

We are extending soon and they will have the option to have separate bedrooms but they insist they don't want to sleep alone. I'm sure that will change eventually though.

It won't last long, the novelty will soon wear off. It is a bit daunting making any change with twins though isn't it. You're very lucky they are still in a cot, mine climbed out of theirs at about 16 months, giving us no option but to put them into beds. The fact that they are older might mean a bit less crashing and banging . Good luck.

Mine have no interest in climbing out of their cots, thank goodness! I'm secretly hoping they will stay there until there legs are hanging out of the end.

Interestingly, their care worker at nursery said I was cruel for keeping them in their cots (it came up in discussion and I just mentioned that they still slept in cots). I thought that was a bit strong so I watch what I say now.

Cruel! How can it be cruel, they'd soon let you know if they didn't like it. Whatever works for you, stick with it until you have to change, particularly with twins, bloody hard work.

My DTs are still in cots (2.5) and have not even tried to climb out (lucky me), they are in separate rooms (because as babies one slept well and one didn't and would wake the other). Their rooms are right next to each other so if they bed-hop later once they are in beds I will turn a blind eye for a bit.......

Surely when their legs grow through the bars, we can just add an extra cot on the bottom......?

I had forgotten the finding them asleep on the floor stage - mine did that for a while - often right up behind the door so it was almost impossible to get in the room to get them back in bed .
