I have no twins in the family, am 23 with a 6.11yo DS. Had a mc in May so when I had spotting with this pregnancy I got checked out at epuc and was told there were TWO healthy heartbeats! We are in shock but very excited!!

I am booking in with my midwife on Monday, I have a few questions written down to ask her - but what do I need to know or ask?

Hello! Congratulations! Did they say what kind of twins they are? If they share a placenta that means they are definitely identical and it is a slightly higher risk pregnancy so you will be scanned every two weeks from 24 weeks. If they have separate placentas (dcda), they are probably not identical and growth scans are usually every 4 weeks from 24 weeks.
So that will dictate the kind of care your will have! You'll probably have lots of scary things drummed into you- risk of preterm labour etc so just read up, don't panic and make sure you look after yourself.
I'm currently 28 weeks with dcda twins and due to finish work in 2 weeks. My last pregnancy, I worked until 39 weeks and was fine but this pregnancy is harder. I am full term size now and absolutely exhausted, particularly with an almost 3 year old at home. Something to bear in mind.

Good luck! It's scary and exciting, isn't it?

Also if you already have your appointment through for your 12 week scan, it is worth calling them as you may need a longer appointment so they can take two sets of measurements.

Wildflower congratulations to you too! I have been doing lots of reading about twins online but trying to stay away as there are so many facts on the difficulties, disappearing twins and complications, it’s all a bit scary.

Kicked Congratulations! They were too small to say what type I am expecting, having another private scan next week at 8 weeks as this is the point of my last loss and I want to see they are doing ok before I fly away on holiday. I was wondering about how long you can happily work until, one of my questions for the midwife. I didn’t realise it would be as soon as 30 weeks! I am lucky that I have a good maternity package and can take a year off work but no idea how we will manage childcare for too. Are you going back to work? I booked the scan at the hospital following my first one, no idea if it was stipulated on the form that I should book a double so will ring and check, thanks. Very scary but also amazing. Such a miracle!
