Twins And Chicken Pox

DT1 caught chicken pox about 2.5 weeks ago. As yet, DT2 shows no signs, despite my attempts at contaminating him through wearing DT1 clothing, swapping bedding etc. I know that chicken pox has an incubation period of 10-14 days but I am puzzled as to why one would get it and not the other, particularly as it is suppose to be highly contagious and they are together all the time. I can only presume that DT2 has an iron clad immune system.

I'd be interested to hear others experience? DTS are 2years9months.

It's a bit of a myth about catching fromclothes/being together with spotty child etc. Chicken Pox IS highly contagious, but it's usually caught by droplet infection - ie when the infected person sneezes all over you before the spots come out.
My brother had CP when he was 18 - came home from university for Xmas hols feeling rough, got in the bath and the spots started popping out all over!
So I was at home with him the whole time he had spots and didn't catch it. I got it when I was 30 and I've never felt so ill in my life. I was sleeping 16 hours a day and dripping with sweat. Truly disgusting - not to mention over 300 spots (I gave up counting at 300!)

That is really interesting. So chances are DT2 will not get it this time.

My DT2 developed the spots exactly 14 days after DT1 first got CP. I think you might be in the clear seeing a 2.5 weeks have passed.

DT1 was covered from head to toe, really ill, DT2 had about 5 spots.

speedymama - I've just looked it up in my Boots 'Family Health' book and it says that the incubation period can be up to 23 days, so maybe he'll still get it.
They usually feel slightly unwell for a day or 2 beforehand, so if you're looking out for it you'll probably have a bit of warning.

Did you try chucking a handful of Bicarbonate of Soda in the bath when dt1 had spots? I can tell you from experience that it's bliss - the soothing effects last much longer than Calomine lotion.

My DT2 got it exactly 2 weeks after DT1, so maybe you're in the clear (my book says up to 21 days though) .

In addition to every other thing I could use, I used some homeopathic stuff Rhus Tox. (30c) and it was excellent for DT1, didn't do much for DT2 though.

DT2 now has chicken pox, nearly 3 weeks after DT2! Oh well, at least it will be out of the way.

Ah................I will never forget my three having chicken pops as they still call it! It was the day before my 50th(yes and that was 4 years ago!) and the big treat was a weekend in France without the trio who were 4 at the time. My brother who was going to look after them said if more than one came down with it he wouldnt have them! Needless to say on my big day 2 hours before the ferry number two broke out in spots! We took them with us, and by 5pm as we were sitting in front of a roaring log fire sipping champagne.................yes, youve guessed it! We were lucky though as none of them seem bothered by it!

My DT2 called it ticken pops and that made me melt.
