Help!

I'm at my wits end. After every feed my twin girls cry and draw their legs to their chest. I can't put them down to sleep in their baskets. I wind them (as well as i can) i've changed bottles but ended up going back to Tommee Tippee and i dunno what to do. My poor babies. My girls are now 1 month old. Were born at 35 weeks though and i was wondering if i could use infacol or gripe water? Advice?

Make sure you are winding them for long enough, if wind is very bad I would wind after every ounce of milk. I used both Infacol and gripe water with mine. Also, make sure the teat sizes are not to big of too small.

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time.

I used gripe water for ds from him being about 2 weeks old (didn't realise it was supposed to be a month!) after I'd tried Infacol and it gave him awful constipation which was worse than the colic. Also used tommee tippee bottles. It made a massive difference.

It is so hard watching your little ones in distress. I'm only four weeks ahead of you and remember four weeks old being a tough time generally. I found I had to keep them upright fir thirty minute after each feed before I could put them down, I wasn't necessarily winding them the whole time but they needed this time upright to let their food go down.

I read online somewhere that to help with wind as well as the usual rubbing and gently patting their backs, you could try sitting them upright in your leg, supporting their head and gentky circle them from the waist in a kind of circular rocking motion. This really works for my two and I'll do it for a few seconds then stretch their body straight and if there is any wind it often comes up then. The other thing I read I try is slowly swinging them from side to side (again supporting their head) like the pendulum of a clock. This word les well with my two but I'm putting IT down as I got to the point wen I'd try anything. I echo a pp who said make sure you wind them for long enough-it is surprising how long you actually need to keep trying (and gentle pats work better than bugger taps for me bite). Other thing to consider is if yours are pulling their legs up, could this also be a need to fart? You could try cycling their legs when they're lying on their back and see if that helps..

Hang in ther. For me, the wind issue has become less of a probkem in recent weeks (I'm now 8w4d) and whether that is their digestive tract has settled down or are persistence in keeping them upright has paid off I don't know. It is hard keeping them uoright when you're tired so have a plan for how you can propr them up safely if you find yourself falling asleep. For me it was putting them in a bouncy chair or propping them up in the v feeding pillow. I could then out them flat when they'd fallen asleep and whenever I next woke up. It was this or have them fall asleep on me and then me fall asleep which used to scare me.

Oh yes, I forgot about the circling. This really helped with my ds too! As did slowly tipping him from a sitting to a laying position a few times.
Another thing I found really helpful was baby massage. There are techniques they teach you to massage their tummy so if they are a bit constipated or have trapped wind it helps to move it along in the right direction. Maybe you could contact your local surestart/children's centre and see if you can book a course?

I used infacol before every feed as mine were so windy too. Look at what teats your using too incase they are guzzling too much and giving them extra wind maybe?

Couple of things. Mine were really sick and windy but not unhappy which helps. Keep them as upright as poss Inc raising basket .
I.breastfed mine so not sure on the teat thing but I tried formula later on and the first time I tried it they were really crying and knees up as you say. And more.sick. We switched formula and they were ok.
Also my sis has had months of her baby sounding like Yours. They've only just realised he has dairy and soya intolerance . Trust your gut to and get them properly seen. Take them to hv and feed them there so they can see. Not trying to scare you but worth checking. Wish you the best op
