baby monitors

i feel like an intruder as I am not a mum to twins or to multiples, but have a problem that you may be able to help me with. We have just moved our baby to her own room next to her brother's room upstairs. We sleep downstairs and need a monitor in both the children's rooms so we can hear if either of them wakes up.

We have found that the Tomy monitors interfere with one another. I searched online and found that safety 1st do a monitor which can listen in to up to 3 rooms at once, but can't find anyone who sells it!! Either two monitors that don't interfere of one system would do.

Any ideas?

Phoned Tomy this morning and they say that their, of course, most expensive monitor at £99.99 - the platinum digital, very rarely interferes with other monitors. Available from Boots and mothercare. So, unless anyone else comes up with anything better, I guess that is our option.

Why is it that the most expensive one, is the one that works - typical! Can you re-programme the one you've got so they work on different frequency, I know nothing about this but my hubby had suggested this when we were talking about number 2. Hope it works. x

baby monitors usually have more than one channel, so why can't you have two cheap ones on different channels?

As I am a physics teacher I should be able to answer this, but I am really not sure. As most monitors use radio waves on two frequencies I wouldn't think they would interfere?? I don't really know why they do as obviously radio stations don't interfere with one another!! Maybe the answer is in the electronics of them.

We will have to ask Tomy that question, I guess. But, I have just bought a premier digital on ebay for £76 including postage so I will let you know how it goes.

I have two Tomy monitors, one with lights and one very basic. It can help if they are not plugged in next to each other. Mine seem fine and are selling the basic one for £6 if you are interested.

Too late I'm afraid. We bought the platinum one and it seems to be working fine. Had problems yesterday until hubby pointed out I had forgotten to put the battery in!! Whoops!

Our original monitor worked fine with our other one, but it had problems and kept stopping working. But, I bought another basic one from Boots and it interfered really badly so I guess if you can find two basic ones that work together then stick with them as long as you can. I didn't want to keep searching and having to take them back if they failed.

Do you really need one in each room if the rooms are next to each other? My monitor is in the hall and i can here if any of them wake.

I don't hear my toddler through the baby's monitor or visa versa. We keep their bedroom doors shut for fire safety. I think that mayb why.
