Ok, it's been 5 years since the birth of my twins. Have any of you had the thing where after your section, a roll of skin hangs over it ( beautifully described as a mothers apron but I find repulsive!) and also you have way excess skin?
The reason I ask is that unlike stretch marks this isn't so talked about. I feel really miserable about my body. I'm not overweight, I'm fit n healthy but I can't stand the sight of this part of me.
Has anyone got any advice short of a tummy tuck of ways to rid this or is it impossible? Also I tore my stomach muscles and my tummy looks permanently pregnant.
Want to know I'm not the only one! I know 5 yrs later is a long time not to tackle this but I determined to enjoy kids and worry about it when they started schoo!

Hi! My twins are 5 now too and I also have the dreaded apron.
I am gym fit, slim etc but cant shift it.
I fear surgery would be the only solution.

I have excess skin too, had the babies in 2012. Weirdly, it doesnt bother me that much. You can't notice it in clothes and I don't plan on getting naked in public :)

cariad34 · 04/04/2015 15:32

I'm not sure this will help but my twins are 13 now and I still have the apron - as far as I know it's a case of your skin can only stretch so far before it loses the ability to "snap" back Hmm I hate it too, it's difficult finding clothes to fit properly that don't cling to it. No amount of exercise has ever made a difference. If anyone has a non surgical solution I'd leap at it!
Having said that I've only got it cos I grew two babies at the same time so I guess that's pretty cool Smile

Thanks for replies. Kinda my worst fears realised though, that nowt will shift it! Still as you say I grew two babies so it is a sort of badge of honour. Just wish I.could wear pretty underwear sometimes! It's nice to know I'm not the only one. All my other post pregnant friends have 'normal' post pregnant bellies.

I have 12 year old twins. I had the dreaded twinskin - which bothered me way more than my stretchmarks, and found no amount of exercise or dieting helped. Infact the skinnier I got, the looser it became. When they were about 5, I really got into running, and I found it somehow did wonders for my belly. It really tightened up. I don't know if it's coincedence and it would have tightened anyway or if it was completely down to the running - but I ended up at a stage where I could wear a bikini in public and actually look ok.

Last year, I had another baby (just a singleton but still managed to put on 4 stone)..and now I've lost the weight, the twinskin is back. Infact it's worse than it was first time.

I am definitely going to try running again.

I got my belly button back after 10 years. Since then, ballet and contemporary dance with some really mean teachers has helped (the ones that make you stand up tall and engage your core muscles).

I look fine with all my clothes on Hmm

I wear trousers that fit at the waist and long tops, or a tucked in long vest. Low trousers (and knickers) just encourage it to roll over, even though I have always been stick thin.

I had so many stretch marks when I was pregnant, and my skins was so sore. It is still delicate.

DayLillie · 30/04/2015 15:14

I would add that I was pregnant in pre-internet days. Some doctor on woman's hour said that after a year that was as good as it got. Angry

She was wrong. It does get better. Every five years it is noticeably better. It is just nowhere near what it was.

As it gets better, the rest of me will be sagging to join it and soon they will match Grin

Another twin mum with an apron here. I started the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred thing on YouTube and really started seeing a difference but couldn't make it past day 10 as one of my DD got sick and I've been too knackered to pick it up since!

If you're sure you have completed your family then I know it's possible to get vitamin A cream from the GP to get rid of stretch marks on tummy.

Jaykay34 that's so encouraging. Thanks! Running is something I used to enjoy pre kids. Just need to get back into it. Maybe That and some pilates style core muscle work will make more difference than I thought. Right, where do I buy some self discipline?!
