One birthday cake or two?

Do you make/buy one birthday cake for your twins to share or one each? My DDs have always shared one but now they are turning 5 I wondered if it might be better for them to have the individuality of one each. On the other hand, making and decorating two cakes is a bit of a faff and I'm rubbish at cakes. I know it's not exactly life or death...just wondering what other people do really.

Our twins have only had one birthday but we did two separate cakes and plan to do that each year. We also give two presents if they are invited to birthday parties, one from each of them.

Two. I always try to make these decisions in line with what I would do if they weren't twins but just siblings born at different times.

We've always had a cake each. In fact we've frequently had three cakes, a smallish one each for candle blowing purposes and something bigger for sharing out, especially the time we had nearly fifty in a hall for their fifth birthday party!

They've only had one birthday so far, and I did two cakes for that and plan to do the same for each birthday. I just think it's bad enough that they have to share the day and the party, the very least I can give them is a cake each :-)

Mine will only be 1 in November, but I plan to bake one cake, cut it in two and ice each half differently, so we have the quantity of two cakes, but they each have their own.

Mine also have only had one birthday, but I made my own cup cakes and put them on a stand and then they had their very own little cakes to blow out (also means you're not left with a ridiculous amount of cake to try and get through), great for parties too as you don't need to cut up the cake to dish out to everyone. Will probably do this every year, good job i'm a pro with the icing bag now :D

Mine get a cake each (cupcake for first birthday) and a song each.

Always have a cake each on their birthday, some times for parties I'll make a big batch of cupcakes for all the kids to get one each. They get sung to by their guests independently too.

I'm not great at baking either, usually just a sponge with butter cream icing. Doesn't have to be fancy if it's covered in icing or edible glitter!

Twins are b/g and were four last week. We had two family parties (ILs couldn't make the actual day) and a party for friends over two days. I couldn't have handled six cakes. We did a joint cake for each party with separate candles and songs. I would try to do separate cakes if possible, buy two smaller ones.

Separate. I have to make the bloody things this week, Frozen themed, one wants chocolate and the other one wants vanilla and they want them "the same but different". They're turning three, I fear this is going to get worse each year.

By 5 the answer is ask? They may want to choose something different or decide on the same, unpredictable things DCs.

We had for their 1st birthday; 2 small homemade chocolate smash cakes (their first taste of any sweet stuff), and a bought one for guests as well as a few cupcakes (Picture to show scale). It saved on hassle and it they made great picture shots!

Will be doing the same this year too just a different theme.

Two cakes, two songs

they had one each on their 3rd birthday (they chose themselves so had spiderman and disney princess).
First birthday they obviously weren't bothered so we had one cake, 2nd birthday we were away so had a big chocolate cake

I shall insist on separate songs, especially now getting older. We have also decided to celebrate their 'half birthdays'- just doing something special of their choice but another day that is marked as a celebration day

luckily they like sharing a birthday and have a lovely bond- hope this doesn't stop anytime soon!

2 cakes here (if it's just a family tea I do a standard 2 tier birthday cake but they each have a tier so same quantity). 4 cakes this year - 2 for party, 2 for birthday.
2 songs - we alternate who goes first, so DS is odd years and DD even years. In their year they also get any treats first - one set of grandparents takes each grandchild for a birthday day out, for example.

We did 2 cakes for the 1st time at 5, I asked them & they said that's what they wanted. I even ended up (by mistake) with 2 parties. 1st one just at 1/2 term and hardly any one could come, so had another one when term re-started!
