Bedside sleeping options for twins?

Hello,

13+5 with MCDA twins and starting to think about sleeping options.

Will probably try shared cotbed after a while (and eventually get a second) but what to do for the first bit? Been looking things up online and ages ago I saw a thing that clips to the side of the bed and looked more than big enough for two but now all the things I seem to find look quite tiny. I obviously have no idea what any of them are called either...

Would appreciate any pointers. Thanks

I had a graco travel cot for the first month or so, as I wanted them sleeping together. I just put it beside my bed. After a month I moved them to their Moses baskets, which lasted till about 2 and a half months.

Moved from travel cot as they ere getting too big and moving towards each other ( and being quite violent!)

Moved from Moses basket because they kept hitting dudes and waking themselves up. Hell for already sleep deprived mum.

They're currently sleeping soundly im their own cots (tutti bambini alana twin cotbed) and they're loving the space at almost 4 months old.

Basically think you will have to adapt to their changing needs, bit at first whatever works best for you, even if your sleeping in the front room with them! ( as I was for a while

So many mistakes sorry. It's 3am and I'm frazzled. Lol

I took the side off a normal cot and out it next to ny bed. They slept across the cot next to each other (feet towards me). They fitted like that for months.

Once they didn't fit across the bedside cot, I moved them into my bed properly. We moved the cot and replaced it with a single bed (for DH!) and I shared the king size with the babies (one on each side), using a bed rail to keep the side baby from rolling out). I put them to bed in separate cots but then brought them in to my bed at the first feed.

I think the previous poster has it - be prepared to change your plans depending on what works for you and your babies :)

We planned for them to share a cot in our bedroom. They would clunk heads and wake each other up so separated them at 6 weeks. We had two cots in our bedroom.

I think the cot with one side off is a great idea - could always just use G-clamps to secure it to the bed.

I found the original "things" I was talking about - bloody Twins UK extortion racket! 399 quid for a flipping co-sleeper cot.

I will have a think about day sleeping options and that might include a separate sleeping option too. If they like that better it's a cheaper way to find out.

Don't have room for two cots in with us although we have to move in a couple of months so we can wait and see. Won't settle on anything until then.

My 2 currently share a Moses basket downstairs for daytime naps and a crib in our room at night. When they outgrow that they will be sharing a cotbed. Haven't decided whether to get a cot divider or not yet. At the moment they don't wake each other up and settle really well together - we'll see though!

We used a cot bed with two sleepyheads going across. We bought two cot beds so when they were tiny we had one in the lounge and one in our room and just moved the sleepyheads around.

The sleepyheads are great because then when they go into the cot on their own it's not such a shock. I also slept on a double bed with one either side of me for a while. They were in them until last week (they're 9.5 months) when they graduated to sleepyhead grandes!

They're not cheap (£90 each new) but they do well on ebay and they're probably the best thing we bought for them in retrospect, and we would have spent at least half that on Moses baskets, frames and bedding.

Be flexible. Our twins shared a cot for the first month in our room, Moses baskets in the lounge for daytime. Then it was Moses baskets in our room and cots in the lounge until six months when they went into their own room. Also Co-slept for a few months out of desperation to get some sleep. Congratulations btw.

We got the baby bay co-sleeper and used it till they were about 5 months old. It was brilliant to not have to get out of bed for night BFs and was able to spend the morning in bed with the two of them beside me. I would definitely recommend

Like happyas we just used a normal cot with side off against bed - we stuck a foam wedge in gap. Worked well until could move and after that they just ended up in with me (cot still there for storage). We got a mountain buggy with a twin carrycot and they napped in that in day.

Mine have just turned 7 months.

We were given a crib, which they did share for about 2 months but I didn't really like it, and it seemed quite tight for two at times. They went straight into a cot then.

They've shared a cot since. Havn't yet had to buy a cot divider but we'll see. It seems to really really help them settle being able to touch/feel each other. During the day they nap in their pram.

My twins shared an incubator in Scubu for 3 weeks, when we got them home we attempted separate cots but they were having none of it, they shared a cot and then a toddler bed right up until about 3, when we got separate singles for them, they STILL slept in the same bed (we'd put them in their own beds, and once we shut the door you could hear them climbing into one bed together!) We tried pushing both beds together, but they still only slept in the one. They did this until about the age of 5 despite our best efforts, then one night just stopped. They are extremely close boys in general though, and hate to be apart from the other. (If you put one boy on the naughty step/in his room for example, the other would do the same naughty thing in order to be in trouble too so he could join his brother, it was both infuriating and incredibly sweet!)

It really was! Just saw my niece and nephew cuddling on the couch too - sibling cuteness. I could burst!
