Breastfeeding after elcs

Hi, I'm due to have my DCDA twins by elcs on 10th March due to neither being head down. I'm very keen to breastfeed and managed 11 months with DS but I'm a bit worried about how easy/hard it'll be after the section as I didn't need one last time.

I've got a twin feeding pillow so I was thinking that I'd be able to feed both using that pretty much from the beginning but a few people have said that I'll need to feed lying down for a few days but I feel like that'll make things really really difficult, esp in the early mega feeding days! Has anyone got any experience they could share? Starting to get a bit nervous now :/ Thanks!!

No twin experience, just bumping for you, but had no problems feeding DD following EMCS & PPH. I was warned when we first tried that she might struggle & to be patient but she got it straight off. When they're tiny (she was 10lb, so not that tiny) I didn't feel much strain on my scar at all & didn't feel I needed to feed lying down. I've recently had further abdo surgery & found I could feed fine with a support cushion to take the weight. Hope everything goes well for you.

I ff my twins but I was fine sitting up from the outset. I had a twin feeding pillow too and it was fine, but I didn't use it for the first week as we were in hospital; think it would be easier than cradling them on your wound.

I breastfed twins after an emergency CS but it took a while for my milk to come in and because they were small (around 5lb) had to give top up bottles of formula to begin with. I wasn't told not to sit up and feed so that's what I did. Hope it goes well for you.

I sat up and BF our twins in the NICU, there was no other option. TBH only the first 12 hours were bad after that it was uncomfortable but manageable.

I breastfed my twins after an ELCS.

I fed the separately rather than at same time, which meant it was a pretty relentless feeding feat for the first few month, but I fed sitting up or propped in bed from the start. Only mastered lying down feeding at about 4 months, at which point I started cosleeping and the tiredness eased a bit!

I fed DS until he refused repeated offers at 2yrs 6 months and DD until she informed me my boobs were broken at 2 yrs 9 months. Many people (HV, midwives and GPs included will tell you feeding two is too hard and you wot have enough milk, but it really can be done. Just keep feeding and keep going one feed at a time :)

Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel so reassured! :) Really keen to bf again after having had no probs with DS so hearing positive things from other twin mummies and those who have had caesareans is great, thank you!! I can go back to being excited instead of worried now, lol! :D

I breastfed mine after an EMCS. It was fine sitting up--I actually welcomed it as it's hard to do/see anything lying flat on your back. I was desperate to just gaze at my babies, so sitting up was a must for me. Didn't notice any pain. I did, however, notice (and mind!) the midwife bustling over and hand-expressing my boobs for colostrum in the middle of the night as the babies were too sleepy to nurse properly! Sooooo awkward.

I used my feeding pillow and all was well as the incision was so low. Having said that, though, I didn't get the hang of tandem until a few days in.

No twin experiance but I bf ds4 as soon as I was moved into recovery after the elcs

My twins are 10 weeks and I combination fed for 8 weeks after c section. I tried feeding both together but preferred focussing on one at a time using a v pillow. Fed sitting fairly upright from the very beginning and slept this way too as I found it difficult moving from laying to sitting position.

I breastfed my twins after ELCS and I'm pretty sure I sat up. They give you those automatic beds where you press the button to sit up so it's pretty easy to get in a comfy position. Twin feeding pillow is essential tho (I just used a normal v shaped). I breastfed my first after an EMCS too, that was much more difficult getting going but again I sat up with him. Good luck x
