Babies on the move

Arghhgghghhgghgggggghhhhhh!

Twins are now almost 8 months and are crawling at speed and pulling themselves up on everything they can lay their hands on. DTS toppled over and cracked his head on the floor 3 times this afternoon.

Any tips on how to survive ? They are still so small and have zero sense. DTS regularly just lets go of whatever is supporting him.

We haven't got there yet so I'm following as I'm kind of dreading them both being on the move (same age as yours). I've got a playpen for when I have to leave them e.g.getting them in the car, going to the loo etc) but other than that - can you contain them in one area and put blankets/ foam squares or something down?

No tips really but try to enjoy the fact that being on the move means they can amuse themselves more, are more interested in things etc. I found it much better once they started moving tbh. Yes they'll fall over and hurt themselves etc but hopefully not too badly and that's hopefully how they'll learn.

It's bloody difficult trying to stop two kamikazes at once though!! I think I was probably lucky in that dtb started moving before dtg so it was staggered.

Oh but I do have a travel cot in the living room to plonk one in when I'm putting the other to bed. V useful!

Babyproof as much as you can, but some accidents are bound to happen with two!
We also had a big playpen for all those moments when I couldn't keep an eye on them.

And good luck, this is when it gets interesting!!

Definitely baby proof! Put gates everywhere, move anything low down, get a playpen. We still have accidents, far more than when my singleton was a baby :( but you just have to minimise risk.

When my triplets were small, my living room became pretty much a massive playpen. I had gates on the door, nothing at their level and even gaffer taped the video player to the top of the telly.

We had a massive playpen downstairs, stair gate at bottom of stairs and on nursery door and baby proofed a bit - soft foam stuff on the fireplace, tv screwed to wall, moved all breakables up high, put some foam floor tiles down on our stone kitchen floor.
And copious use of the words "stop!" and "no!"

I have a massive playpen in the kithcen - 2m square but obviously they hate it with a passion. We're struggling with stair gates as our stairs are narrow but we need tall gates to fit the newel posts. Annoying victorian terrace.

Things have improved slightly in that DTS can now flop back down onto the floor unaided - which he manages about 50% of the time.

Do yours egg each other on? I am sure DTD would be more calm and less mobile if she was a singleton but she point blank refuses to be left behind and so is climbing/cruising at the same rate as kamikaze DTS. Who is already trying to bridge the gap between the sofa and the armchair.

I found the start of each new phase quite hard, after a while you get used to it and 2 babies crawling and climbing everywhere just seems normal.
We baby proofed everything, and just had a gate at the stairs and kitchen.

We found they worked together, so they would push toy boxes to try to get things we had moved out their reach, and yes they would egg each other on. Its amazing what they can do when they put their minds to it.
