Twins and thinking about another one..

I've just seen the thread for the lady who has had her third set of twins so my issue seems minor in comparison!
We have 18mo twins and are at that point where we've started to think about another one (if we were so blessed)
I'd have another in a second, DH seems keen but my Mum thinks I'd be crackers!
For anyone with older twins and more babies: How do you cope? Is it easier dealing with one once you've somehow managed to do it with twins the first time? Thanks xx

I dont have any others other than my twins though I too would maybe like another one day (was thinking more like a 5 year gap!). My mum also thinks I'm mental! Sometimes I think it's a job done now other times...how nice would it be to experience what it's like to have one? (but what if you have twins again, as there is a possibilty, would that be ok?)

First off are your twins identical or non identical?? Non identical a its something like a 1 in 4 chance of having twins again, whereas identicals just happen.

I thi k to be honest if your going to have anymore then always think there is a possibility of twins again, I have 2 sets and its not as bad as people would think.

I've been getting a broody lately (my non-id twins are 19 months) and would love to experience pregnancy again, but in reality I'm going to wait until they are at least 3 years old before I seriously consider it. In my head I always picture a singleton baby though and I'm not sure if I'd really be prepared to risk it being twins again, I don't think I could cope. Having said that I never thought I'd cope with twins and you muddle through somehow! I had heard the 1 in 4 statistic before, but there was a programme on radio 4 about statistics the other day talking about the lady who just had her 3rd set. This said the chance of second set of non-I'd twins is 1 in 28. Much less off putting!

I've never heard the 1 in 28 :-/

Not sure if that lady has identically or not, I haven't seen a newspaper article with Id or non Id in it.

You do cope because you have to, not saying its been easy because it hasn't and I did have a huge meltdown when the little ones were 8 months but I put a lot of pressure on myself and never ask for help and always refuse it. I've changed now lol

My first set are identical and I'm PG with fraternal. So it is possible. I say if you want another and know you have the means to carry for them. Go for it :)

I'm a mum of fraternal twins who are going to be 7 this year. I'd really like to have another child but financially we just would be able to cope with another two. Obviously healthy children are a blessing but I also need to be practical. Does anyone know whether there is a way to get my egg production checked? I was thinking about seeing if a private clinic could do an internal scan and check how many eggs I have each cycle.

Hi I had twins that were just 4 when Number 3 arrived. I'd wanted a closer gap, but it took longer to conceive her.

I like to think I'd have been OK if it had been twins again, but my twins were very prem (27 weeks - they were in hospital for 2 months) and I had absolutely no idea how we'd have managed a long period in SCBU again with 3 or 4 yr old toddler twins. I therefore burst into tears of relief when I had my 12 week scan and there was just 1!!

Its been great actually - it was lovely to have a singleton, although as I;m sure everyone says with a 2nd baby (although she was really my 3rd if you see what I mean) its completely different. All the things I thought would be a breeze were hard work and vice versa.

The only killer for me was the fact that the twins weren't having a day time sleep - they were 4 - so it was just full on all the time, when NUmber 3 was napping, the twins were eager to play and do lots because they had their mummy back for a while. I was pretty exhausted, much more so than with the twins which I hadn't expected.

Go for it - you might regret it if you don't

(i have a 16 months gap between Ds1 and DTs - they can all play with each other as they're so close in age)

I waited and have a 5 yr age gap between my twins (8) and my singleton (2) - its a brilliant age gap and like someone said above finding out there was just one was magical :-) as great a finding out it was twins the first time round!
