Hi,
I am 24+4 with Id twin boys.
This afternoon ive just had the laser ablation treatment for TTTS which devoloped quite gradually from 19 weeks but was looking like stage 1 and stable until Monday where it had suddenly deteriorated to stage three. I know some of you here have experience of this and just wanted to share with people who will have an idea of what i am going through right now. The treatment seemed to go well and i am now on ward. Will be re scanned in the morning, and again on Monday. Im just feeling very overwhelmed as we were really starting to feel we were out of the woods , then it all just suddenly went this way. Trying to be positive. Just needed to put this all somewhere. X

Rowan. - When I was 25.4 weeks I was the 4th person in the country to have this at Kings Collage Hospital when I was expecting my now 12yr olds. It was a scary new technique then but I imagine its just as scary and worrying now. Be reassured that this saved my twins lives and I never regretted having it done. (mind you, with 2 pre-teen boys, I sometimes think again!!)
its amazing how well they start to improve after the procedure, and every day thry are getting stronger. Good luck, and it won't be long before they are safely in your arms, then the real work beginsSmile

Hi all,
Thanks for your messages.
The boys have been doing really well, so much so that the docs got confused about which twin was which as my donor twin has completely caught up growth wise!
I am now 31 wks.
However.... I had a scan Friday and it turns out that the membrane that lies between them inside the sac has vanished. They think its broken - apparently not all that common but more likely to happen post laser than just on its own.
So they are getting them out the week after next, just after 32 weeks! Very scared and now running around like a headless chicken trying to get last bits prepared, whilst at the same time trying to rest as much as possible!

Hi Rowan
Just seen your update on this thread. If you remember, we were twin "twins", as I am also 31 weeks.
I'm sorry you've had such a scary time these last few weeks, and hope that all goes well during the operation. Sounds as though you are in really good and experienced hands.

No doubt you've got a lot to do over the next few weeks, setting up babysitters etc, sorting out last-minute things, which must be stressful.

But it'll all be worth it when they're out safely, and I'm sure they'll be well looked after in the hospital. I hope they can join you at home as soon as possible.
Good luck

Hi there!

So your babies will arrive next week - that's amazing!

Wishing you the very best of luck and hope the babies spend as little time in NICU as possible! It's great to have got to 32 weeks after TTTS :)

Rest up while you can , the next few weeks will be manic!
Do you live near your NICU unit? I hope you don't have far to travel, make sure you ask for lots of help from those around you x

Keep us all posted on your news!

Xxx

Rowan well done and getting them this far - really hope it all goes well for you.

Mine were 31+2, and were fine - small but fine. We had six weeks in hospital, a few days in NICU and then down to SCBU.

Rest rest and rest, and then rest some more - you need to get as much weight on to those babies as possible!

x

Hi Rowan,
Only just read this but wanted to just say hope all goes well for you and your boys:-)!
I had a similar experience during my twin pregnancy; my girls developed ttts at 21wks, had laser surgery immediantly in Bristol. Hugely worrying time then followed involving scanning weekly and then i had a c-section at 32 weeks. My daughters were born at 2lb11 &3lb3 and stayed in scbu for 5wks.
Anyway they are now 5 and are doing well, you would never guess they were premature! So what i want to say is stay strong, and i hope you will let us know how you and your little ones are doing. I know from my experience how tough its been for you, but im living proof of how a very drastic situation can end very happily:-) Sending my very best wishes xx
