Just found out I'm having twins!

In complete shock. Any advice?!

Going back next week for my nuchal scan, didn't really take in what they said to be honest - am further on than I thought, 13w 2d, due 10th June.

DH and I quite excited but very shocked. Need to get our heads around it. Them!!

My twin girls are 9 weeks old. It is great being a twin mum, despite the sleepless nights!

Congratulations! It makes for an interesting pregnancy. Even slightly jaded NHS workers perk up when you mention you're having twins.

Do you know what type you're having? DCDA is the least risky - it's good to know so you can be prepared for the potential risks. If they share a placenta and/or sac, there can be more issues.

Be prepared to be very very tired and having to finish work early. I have had a relatively easy pregnancy and consider myself to be prety robust but I am now 30 weeks, measuring full term for a singleton and very very very tired. I am finishing in 2 weeks and can't wait. Commuting is horrible, I often have to have a little break on the walk to/from the tube station and am pretty much in bed every night at 9.30. I am also reaching my limit in terms of driving - can't reach the wheel!

On the plus side, it's really exciting and pretty much everyone has been delighted for us and really excited too. I am so looking forward to seeing them both for the first time. Also you get lots of scans as standard which is nice.

I am 9 weeks with momo twins. Also a huge huge shock for us! We already have a 3.5 yr old ds and so nervous about going from 1 to 3!
Getting excited now although have been very very sick so hoping 12 week mark hurries up!

I'm having DCDA twins. Good point about finishing work early - I am just trying to get my head around everything and everyone is so excited, it's been lovely ringing round. My mum is pleased as punch!

Have to admit to being ever so slightly terrified..where's a good place to start for info etc? have checked out the TAMPA website but any books recommendations etc gratefully received... also, is there a 'list' of what to get?? Need to start planning (and buy a bigger house!)

My (dcda) boys are 8 months now, and I remember the first shock! Trying to get 12 month old DD to sit still, then realising we were looking at two babies on the screen :)

Don't worry about anything yet. Double the love, double the joy and all. There's lots of us knocking around for advice too.

I thought here and tamba website were great for info. I read a book on twin pregnancy but found it scared me a bit (talking about potential complications etc) and read Emma mahoney (??) Double trouble book too. I can't really remember either that well, so probably not that useful to me!

8 months? How are you coping? Any tips? (And are they identical?!)

Bit gutted I can't have my water birth but am sure that will pass. Just hoping I don't have to have a cs, but if course I will if its advised and necessary.

My twins are now 11yrs old? I would suggest enlisting someone to help out a bit once they arrive, someone to bring you cups of tea and maybe do some batch cooking so you don't need to. I had an emergency C-section, didn't want a C-sectional all but it went well. Don't worry about that until the time comes, the Drs won't do surgery unless it's necessary.

We cope just but i have one who just doesn't sleep which adds strain! They're a real joy now though, they giggle at each other constantly, and at DD, and their interaction is wonderful. I feel very lucky and chant this too shall pass when up for the millionth time in the night :)

Accept all help, rope in relatives, try home start, ask people to bring meals for tea and your freezer, accept you can't do everything like you would for one baby (swimming and baby massage are two I found hard) but now its much more fun!

Congratulations- my two will be 15 this week but still remember the moment they asked at my dating scan.. "how would you feel about two?"
TAMBA was a great source of info for me - I found a 'twins club' quite near me that I got to when I could ( I went once or twice before I had them) and that was invaluable as a source of advice and support, especially as I was on my own from when they were about 8 months- I am still in touch with a couple of the mums now.
Even though my two are incredibly different ( one teacher at parents' evening last year explained that my youngest was awkward as she kept insisting that another girl in their year was her twin!!- apparently - 'she must think I'm daft-the girl she says it is is nothing like her!') and they do argue they really have a unique bond. When they were small and shared a room they would 'mirror' each other in the way they were sleeping!
Good luck with everything. If all else fails and you have not slept for days bundle them in the pushchair, go for a wander round town or the supermarket.. and enjoy the the joy they give to all the old ladies (and others) you will undoubtedly attract. Take care x
