How is this happening to me?

Yeah. I'm having triplets. I have four year old identical twins. No one in my family, or DH's has ever given birth to twins, never mind triplets. That's going back generations. Somehow I've ended up with the ability to only make multiples. Which I'm happy about (I always count myself lucky that I had twins- and now I'm going to have three little babies), but I just don't get how to cope. Anyone with triplets out there? Or just two sets of multiples?

Thanks MrsWolowitz. I know that I'm so lucky to have not just my boys, but (hopefully) triplet girls and a boy! I've never heard of tamba, off to google it now!

There was someone on another thread the other day who was saying she had triplets and twins with only 11 months between them but I can't remember who it was now. Congratulations though!

that is why i am terrified of getting pg again i have twins and it has done me in but as you say we are all blessed to have our beautiful multiple babies and i wish you lots of luck.

Congratulations! Can I be the first to say - ooh, you've got your hands full! I have 2 sets of twins, I know it's not the same thing BUT I remember being knocked sideways when I found out it was twins (first time round) then my jaw REALLY hitting the floor when told it was twins again at my 2nd 12 week scan. Like you, absolutely no known history of multiples in the family.

Triplets is bound to be harder, logistically, but you have the advantage of already having coped with multiples and you will probably be better equipped to deal with the challenges than someone who has never experienced that. You are less likely to be freaked out by talk of "high risk" pregnancy nad then, once they're here, by having a baby forced to wait for a feed (while you feed another baby - or two!). You will already be a dab hand at multi-tasking.

My boys were 3 years and 1 month when their sisters were born. It has been such a big help having extra pairs of hands to help me, especially when the girls were tiny - eg, DS1, could you just pass me that nappy please? DS 2 could you pour mummy a gin give your sister a toy while I feed the other one? It is really frazzling sometimes but we do cope, sort of, and there are moments when they are all playing happily together andI just look at them and feel all sort of gooey inside. I am an only child myself and I do think they're all lucky to have each other (except when they are fighting ). Good luck with it all - keep us posted! And don't feel bad if you feel a bit daunted by it all, that's a perfectly reasonable reaction...

I know I'm lucky, but thinking about all the extra things we have to buy (we could afford roughly up to twins, but triplets might push us onto the skint side of things) and just thinking about the nights? How will I get any sleep? I was all looking forward to one little baby, one scream in the night and a simple ordinary buggy which can easily get on the bus or through doors. But I'm still lucky!

Oh god, yes - I was sooooo looking forward to one SINGLE buggy.... it took me a good couple of weeks to get my head round th efact that that would NOT be happening. Sounds so silly but I was a bit distraught for a while. Now, I wouldn't change it for teh world, honest!

On the other hand, I have one single baby who is the most fun ever. You are going to have FIVE TIMES the fun, but only have to go through morning sickness/labour etc twice! Result!

BellaBelly - Congratulations! And it doesn't sound at all silly to say that you were distraught for a while.

When I thought I was having another single baby (already had a 13 month and 6 year old) and then found out it was twins, it took a while to get my head around even that. Now, I wouldn't change it for anything but whenever I see someone with the pram I'd 'picked out' in my mind (it was a Phil & Teds explorer) I still think - oh, that's the buggy I was going to have when I had my toddler & a newborn. I really liked that pram & had even taken my toddler into Mothercare & put her in the front so I could see what it would be like when the new baby came.

Instead, I now have the abc triple (with toddler seat) sitting in my kitchen, waiting for the twins to arrive. I still feel slightly scared when I look at it!

So, although I don't know what it's like to be in your situation, I do know what it's like to have a plan in your mind that suddenly changes. Maybe I will grow to love my triple buggy?

Good point zinaida. Morning sicknes x2, labour x2, having everybody think I'm public property x2, children x5! They're good stats from my point of view at least. I'm looking at the cheap single buggies- and even the twin ones- and thinking of how nice it would be to go into Mothercare and buy one. The only buggies I can find are these ones, both around £200! And for over 3mnths! Does anyone know any triplet baby buggies/prams/whatever, or do I have to resort to a baby carrier for DH and me pushing a twin buggy (or reverse, or a single, with both of us having a baby carrier)?

Re: triple buggies- I've just bought an ABC triple and although I'll be using it for twins plus toddler, it is suitable for triplets because the top seat can also fully recline for a newborn. It is a side by side double with a top seat that faces towards you. I read loads of reviews & it definitely has the best for a triple. I think it is around £1200 if you get a new one as they have to be shipped from New Zealand but there are always used ones on eBay or on the Tamba 'for sale' board. I bought one of eBay for £410 (including courier costs) and it is in brilliant condition so I am glad I got that rather than forking out massive amount for a new one.

Wow, huge congratulations. When I was having a wobble before my Dts arrived a friend told me that you get the baby that you can cope with, and multiple mums are just better copers. That just makes you an AMAZING Coper! You know it will be hard, but you know you can do it too, and think of the rewards in a few years!
However I so really feel for you too - I'd love another baby to experience a normal pregnancy, birth, newborn stage etc so you might feel you need to say goodbye to the loss of that a little IYSWIM.

SlightlyTipsy - I just wondered how you are getting on. Have you told people yet? Also, does being pregnant with triplets feel very different to pregnant with twins? I hope you're feeling okay & that the news is starting to sink in a bit now.
