Hope everyone is feeling a bit better, especially Trips and Chops.
News on Mum front - SS have said they will put in night care from tonight onwards, and they also said she had been underfunded for over 6 months (since we initially upped visits to 3x a day, they were informed!), and they should pay the money we have been paying out of her savings and adding to ourselves each month (worked out at almost £900 a month!), and also they will fund the private night care we put in last week, Phew!
Db2 has had to cancel his stay in Turkey with inlaws, as they have to come home themselves for a few weeks, so he will be here for Christmas. He has now announced he will take Mum over to his for christmas day, despite both Db1 and I saying she cant cope with a busy house and she will get confused, agitated and upset, but, apparently, he knows best! Never mind he has hardly visited her at all in the past 6 months!!
Well, I suppose he has to find out the hard way, but it will prob be left to me to pick up the pieces when the carers ring to say she is really confused and unwell afterwards!

Oh when is this thing going to go away, the pains in my stomach are awful. I have such a busy week, esp cooking and can`t do any of it. Dd is being her usual moo of a self, told her not to bring her friend home, she did. She then swanned off to town to get a S/Santa prezzie for school, they were told to spend £2. She of course had no money, then Thomas said his tutor were also doing a SS, no money also. So gave her my last tenner, told her to go to Poundland and get 4 bars of choc, 2 each and I wanted to see £6 change. She comes back still with her friend, throws the £6 on my bed. I asked her what did she get? She got 2 bags of Haribos and nothing for Thomas, but had spent the £2 in Subway because she was hungry!!! So now she is hoping I will find her something to take in.................should I ? Oooo just got terrible pains........ yesterday was murder, tried to stay in bed, keep away so as not to spread this thing. It was non stop bickering, followed by the first serious fight between the boys, and believe it or not I heard the first bad language come from them, they have never ever swore in this house. I was soooooo shocked I flew out of bed and tore into them. What with that and dk forever asking me what to cook, who will eat what etc etc etc. Can anyone recommend a good convalescent home?

thegirlinthesassyspace · 18/12/2012 10:13

sorry to hear you are so sick! bad timing!
can't believe only a week til xmas. Glad that its a time for lots of family as extra hands to hold twins will be v welcome!
I managed to nail my sister for 3 of the 2am night feeds - what a difference it has made to my energy levels having the huge amount of sleep back!!!
The good thing is she LOVES looking after them, and wants to do it again!! haha

i have a random question i wonder if anyone knows the answer to...I seem to remember there was a government scheme to give babies a £250 savings voucher/cash when opening a savings account in theirname after birth....but I can't find any info about this ..I thought it might be something that came in their bounty bags but the only thing I got was the child benefit paperwork..

Does anybody know anything about this? does it still exist?

What are people up to today? is it still snowing in Devon? Its pretty mild in Marlborough so been taking the babies out everyday in the buggy and today taking them to their first time at twins club...
have a nice week everyone. Hope to drop in again before xmas day proper and wish you all a good one!

Oh bubs! Your db needs to do this so he can see how hard things have got. My auntie is having my grandma for a few days over Christmas. Unfortunately she is 'on the turn' again but auntie needs to know how grandma can be to my mum, who is 'only' her dil.

Well twins are getting on fabulously with their glasses Hmm Joshua has now worked out he can take his off too! So fun and games.

I also bought a new pushchair. £20 on eBay. It's a dream to push so I'm feeling very disloyal to my carefully chosen stroller. But still, it's lovely.

Had a non-row with dh last night. One where he wondered what I'd done all day. To be fair, not as much as I wanted with a sick 4 yo, spending two hours nearly at the drs as they were running late (twins and 4 yo seen) and then having to go and fetch a parcel which Tesco delivered as click and collect instead of home delivery as requested. Grrrr. He reckons he's giving up work and I can go back. Was damn tempted to tell him to fill his boots. He'd get the housework done but the kids would be climbing the walls with boredom.

But he's in a better mood this morning. I think he's realised he's been a tit as I left him to get on with the children last night while I tidied upstairs. All he did was shout at them as they bickered, squabbled, generally didn't do as they were asked and made a mess after I'd tidied the toys up for the billionth time.

Other than that we're all good here and looking forward to Christmas for a few days together.

Sokmonsta · 18/12/2012 10:26

Sassy, that scheme stopped in 2010 I'm afraid. My Ds got his £250 but my niece didn't. There's only 5 months between them. I think they stopped the hip £190 too. But you might be able to get a sure start grant of £250 ish because of the twins. Even if you've got other children. Check out TAMBA as I think they got it reinstated for multiple families.

triplets · 18/12/2012 14:39

Hi Space girl, nice to have you drop in and glad to hear your sister was such a help, always say yes to offers! Well had a burst of energy this morning, so after scrubbing up I iced the cake, made some cakes and hoovered through, got the kids sacks out and filled with their presents, trying to make sure regardless of cost they look the same! Managed a cup of tea and a fruit scone, so hopefully on the mend!

triplets · 19/12/2012 00:00

Kale Nits everyone..................

thegirlinthesassyspace · 19/12/2012 09:00

wow thats a productive morning! haven't had one of those for a while.
tend to get more stuff done in the evening when the babies have gone to sleep at 7pm (I ahould say that they are now sleeping really well in the night compared to when I first came onto this to wail. They are waking up pretty much in time for their nightfeeds, well sometimes a bit before but only usually by half an hour so can't complain too much about it as still manage a 4 hour sleep following by a 2.5hour sleep)

cup of tea and fruit scone sounds like a good idea!
Thanks sokmonsta for the info. Thats a shame but nevermind, I needed to open an account in their names as someone has kindly given them cheques made out in their names, so I thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Does anyone have any tips for a windy baby? one of my twins seems to be so much more in pain than the other - she is the smaller one - and she;s so unhappy [sas]

Morning girls! The house of ill is largely all better! I am sorry to read that there is illness on this thread though . I will cross my fingers and hope you are all well for christmas.

I have enrolled the dts into pre school. This feels like a big step and I have been putting it off for ages - what am I going to do without my little people Sad.

Bubby, good news about your mum, pleased you have something sorted.

Sassy, no idea about coping tips. Dt1 was horrendous though and would guzzle milk and then soak me with an entire feed minues later. She was never upset about it, but it used to annoy me a lot! Sympathies though, I hope you find some way of managing it.

thegirlinthesassyspace · 19/12/2012 17:00

thanks bagpuss no worries I'll keep doing the endless burping and patting, I'm sure it will sort it self out eventually Smile
glad to hear by the time twins get to school or preschool i'll be sad and miss them! at the moment they are so adorable but you know it would be great to have an hour off haha :-)
tomorrow have the 1st 6 week check with GP and find out their weight, which I have begun to look forward to as a kind of milestone as makes me feel like I'm doing everyone right if they are putting on weight :-)
have a nice evening everyone
xxxx

triplets · 19/12/2012 22:54

Sassy............of course you are doing everything right, twice!! Just from your messages I can feel a sense now of more confidence and control. Just wait until they get to their teens...............I go around the house wailing "where have I gone wrong"? Xmas Grin
Feeling much better, not much of an appetite though, no doubt make up for it next week. So what is everyone doing and eating on the big day? We are still debating over the main, pok, lamb or turkey............dd says can`t she have a Chinese as what I do is disgusting.............I do love her, I do love her.....

triplets · 19/12/2012 22:55

pok..............a nice leg of pok pls Xmas Grin

Chopstheduck · 20/12/2012 08:20

Morning girls,

glad people seem to be recovering.

Trips, do goose! Very nice. I have mine on order from M&S, picking up on Sunday.

Off to costco today to finish the shopping, with dd in tow.

Why ruby, what did you say?

We are having loin of pork. My mum is coming to spend Christmas day with us as it is the first Christmas without my dad Sad. We are then going to hers on boxing day for a buffet. This way we both get a rest from cooking for one day each and can drink Wine.

Dt1's new favourite word is why. Sample convo from this morning:

Dt1 "dt2 has a sticky out bottom, why?"
Me "because he's a boy"
Dt1 "why?"
Me "because he just is"
Dt1 "I got two legs, why?"
Me "because otherwise you'd fall over"
Dt1 "why?"
Me Hmm

Three year olds, don't you just love them? Grin.

Afternoon All. Trips glad you are feeling better - just to let you all know, the new advice with this norovirus everyone is to wipe down surfaces with a bleach based surface cleaner, as its very hard to kill.
Busy week, worked to 8pm Monday, choir concert Tuesday, plus waited in for last few presents to be delivered and did a lot of the wrapping, work 7-5 yesterday then on to work xmas do straight afterwards, now on final day of work until January, finish at 6.30, yahhhhy!
Can you believe my FiL, he came round our house on Monday at 4pm , bringing his presents, expecting us to be homeXmas Shock! He knows we both work, and the boys are on their own a couple of hours after school. M rang DH and said "I know we are not supposed to let anyone in, but Grandad and E (his ladyfriend) are here, and we let them in to give them a cup of tea, you arent angry at us are you?" DH said of course not, but rang his dad later that evening to give him a bollocking! I was please that the boys had remembered our rule, and told them so, and also said well done for checking Xmas Smile

aww, bubby!

All my comping is finally paying off a bit this week! Been working my butt off for past three weeks. Today I won a piano, £200 , rugby tickets and going to take dd to meet Lawson. Two seperate wins, maybe I shud buy a lottery tickets ;)

bubby64 · 20/12/2012 22:18

Just a quickie. M watched the film The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in school RE class today. It is rated 13PG, (patrental guidence, not teacher guidence ) yet a class of 11 & 12yr olds were shown it without any notice to parents. I was a bit upset by this as M said he and almost all the class were in tears at the end. I have watched this film and I found it upsetting, and DH and I had decided not to let the boys watch it yet.
I would probably have said yes to him watching it if I had been asked, but at least I would have been able to prepare him first by going over the storyline!
