how did that happen?!

shabbatheGreek · 29/11/2012 06:52

Morning girls xx

Tom took himself to bed at 7pm and he is still there - hasn't woken up!! Awwww his first time sleeping right through the night, without waking even for a few minutes Hmm mind you he is 15!!

Sokmonsta · 29/11/2012 07:55

James' idea of housework is to tidy up, the tip everything out again! But he's adorable while he does it. Have a lovely video of him with the dustpan and brush going 'sweep, sweep, sweep' as he brushes up.

I have a HS volunteer. She came to us when the twins were about 3 months old and has been invaluable. She entertains the babies, feeds them etc while I get on with housework. Yesterday morning I managed to get loads of stuff up in the loft and put the Christmas boxes together ready to come down. Last week I did a load of batch cooking for the babies and got our tea in the slow cooker. She is good company as well so we have lovely adult conversation going too.

Had a lovely evening out minus kids last night. Went to see Rhod Gilbert. I've not laughed so much in ages. He is very definitely my favourite comedian at the moment. Probably because I can empathise with his desire to complain about everything, no matter how trivial.

triplets · 29/11/2012 08:53

Morning, its cold enought to freeze the balls tail off a brass monkey! I don`t do Winter.................brrr
I had a HS volunteer too, she was a 50yr old retired school teacher and was lovely. 15 years later and we are still in touch. She stopped coming when they were about 9 months old, but still came across to ee us and once sh had the kids over night for a s/over!
Shabs Shock Tomster slept all through the night? I so remember the early days............
My James has gone back to school today, hopefully he last the day, was really poorly.
Suppose I had better get on.......... :o

shabbatheGreek · 29/11/2012 08:57

Oh yes Trips!!! Remember our late night phone calls when our lot were about 2 years old? You: Is he still awake? Me: Yep You: He must have had a long sleep during the day then? Me: Nope!!! Grin Grin

I used to worry myself sick about it until my wonderful HV said (after studying the night time diary I had to keep) 'If he was mine I would throw him through the bloody window!!'

Somehow, once she said that I felt much better Grin

Soks, that sounds adorable, I'd let. I'm help just for that!

Ruby, tell me about it. I'm off to town, and will shortly be cycling over Waterloo bridge, prob with icicles hanging from my nose. I don't DO winter!

bubby64 · 29/11/2012 10:47

Soks - I'm glad you got some James time, and also that you are feeling better.
Spacegirl - Just hang on in there! and yes, it does get easier, although challanging in different ways, I also agree with the others re Home Start. I also had a HS volunteer, from when the boys were about 5months until they started nursery school, and we still went to all the HS trips and partysuntil they turned 5. She was also a lovely semi-retired teacher, and we are still friends with her, the boys adored her! She just gave me the chance to catch up with things, she loved ironing, and always did that for me (and I _loved her for that as i hate ironing with a passion!) We are actually seeing her next week for coffee, and she always gets a christmas pressie from us!
Shabbs - Now you need to see if you can sleep all night too!

Oh, and I also had a big blood loss and had transfusions, have they checked you Hb(red blood count level) recently to see if you have made any up, or if you still need a couple of units of blood? I agree with Chops, you do feel so much better after they replaced the loss.

Well, he can't of checked, as I have come home to a freezing house and no hot water and a very empty oil tankAngry AngryI knew i should have checked myself.Sad
I am hoping to get an emergency delivery of 100ltres from a local small volume supplier as the company we have a budget account with can't deliver until next Wednesday!!
We have in laws coming to dinner on Sunday for the boys birthday to a freezing house and no running hot water (our immersion heater went bang in the spring and we couldnt afford to fix it)

Tv has been collected! Hopefully with the next ten days we will either get it back repaired or replaced.

Typically I picked Emily up from school. James started playing up (climbing on the back of the sofa and dismantling our Olympic coin collections). Threw a plastic ball at Jen, refused to eat tea. More than likely all because I couldn't devote every second of time to him as I was trying to feed the babies, trying not to break my neck on a billion cars spread about the floor and sort the veg for tea. But it was still a better day overall and he is currently zonked in bed. Preschool all day for him tomorrow and town lights switch on in the evening so hopefully he'll be so well occupied he won't have time to make mischief.

bubby64 · 29/11/2012 21:29

Soks- Glad you are getting the TV sorted, and also that, although hectic, your days seem to be getting a little better, and you also seem to be a bit brighter.

The one thing I know for sure is this

"Nothing ever stays the same"..............always remember that when times are stressful.

Have to be out by 8am, Rebecca is having her braces fixed at 9am in Canterbury, we will be in for a wingeing w/end and their school is off on Mon for staff developement day...............bloody joke as they are all being made redundant next year............grrr don`t let me get started on that one.

Chops did you watch Britains Best Baker channel 4 @4pm Mon -Frid? I stupidly missed it and wondered if its being repeated.
Loved Masterchef tonight, my two favs got through:)

Think I forgot to tell you about Ollie my lovely missing cat. Heard y/day from the lady who runs the cat sanctuary that she tracked down the elusive gardener who took away the dead cat from the garden around the corner, found the day Ollie went missing. We were told she had taken this cat to a vets and had it scanned, it was not micro chipped so it gave us hope as Ollie is chipped. Well she didn`t, she simply took the cat and put it in a container at the local tip..................from her description it was Ollie :( my poor lovely boy to end up that way.

Morning girls xx

Chopstheduck · 30/11/2012 07:58

soks, glad you had a better day

bubby, fingers crossed for the emergency delivery!

Trip, so sorry to hear that about Ollie, hope it wasn't him.

I missed that program, tried hunting for it, but couldn't find it. Is it Britain's Best Bakery on ITV? It's available on catchup here I watch lots of tv online while comping, so will have to have a look at that!

I'm a bit behind on Masterchef. DH likes that as well, so I have to wait until we both get chance to watch it. There are so many good cookery programs on atm, the sky planner is full of them! I really like Ottolenghi - he did a program on Israeli food, and is now covering the mediterranean. Plus, Spice Trip is another new one. And we're watching Jamie Oliver food in 15 minutes. Bollocks to the 15 mintues part, and it creates a PILE of washing up, but some of the food is tasty.

Made the san francisco salad earlier in the week. Blackened chicken (allspice and smoked paprika) with mango, feta, avocado on a bed of quinoa (didn't have any in, so used couscous instead!) mixed with blended spinach, coriander, spring onions, chilli and mint. Was very tasty and the kids loved it!

Chopstheduck · 30/11/2012 21:13

My house stinks of gruyere! Though I won't be around all weekend to smell it [bgrin]

Decided to take dd with me. She really has been lovely lately, and deserves a treat and so we will have a girls weekend.

triplets · 30/11/2012 23:56

Have a fab time Chops, lovely to take your dd with you.......tea at Bettys or maybe tea at HMs.............she has been absent of late!!
OMG just noticed......special Scottish smileys.........why? Have I missed something?
DD is not a happy bunny with her new brace, she says she can`t talk.................nothings stopped her before[bwink] Still I felt sorry for her as it must feel ghastly to begin with, awkward for eating, so treated her to a whole tub of Ben and Jerrys cookie dough ice-cream, her fav! Long w/end now as they are off on Mon..............three lie ins.............bliss!

Sokmonsta · 01/12/2012 08:14

Scottish smileys for St. Andrew's day trips

Yesterday was another hectic bit good day. Took the twins for their Opthamology appointment. I'd had Joshua referred as we think he may have a squint. As there's family history they referred Jennifer as well. Ended up coming away with a prescription for both babies! Jennifer is also long sighted. Not as much as Joshua (or Emily - hers are +6.5!) but enough that they don't want it to worsen. Joshua may or may not have a squint. He's got what they call a pseudo squint at the moment, because he has a broad nose. It may or may not develop into a squint. I'm hoping we've caught it early enough as all the children have the same broad nose and Jennifer and James definitely do not squint in anyway way, shape or form.

So today we are off to sort glasses hopefully. We tried yesterday but the man we needed to see was on holiday. He should hopefully call us this morning to make an appointment.

We went into town to see the lights switch on. Babies were so excited by they slept in the pushchair the whole time Smile

James was good. Helped probably by a friend coming with us, so one person per child and one with the pushchair. He enjoyed a carousel ride and spin on the teacups (or tea pot as he called them). They were both thrilled at Father Christmas driving past.

Emily also has a party to go to. I'm so proud as its her first 'school' party and I'm dropping and running. Seemed appropriate now she's away from me all day at school.

Other than that its a trip to the inlaws ironing fairy and tidying the house ready for the elves to visit in a few days and then get the decs up. Listening to the brass band playing carols last night has properly put me in the mood.

Chigertick · 01/12/2012 14:55

Hello everyone - hope you're all ok - I've been lurking again with not much time to post Smile
Congrats to you Spacegirl - you sound like you're doing brilliantly - just to second (or third!?) the swaddling mine loved it. We used super soft Moses basket sheets at first then moved onto swaddle pod types before finally transferring to sleeping bags when they were around 9 months.

Poor you sokmonsta it sounds as if the preschool "business" could be a factor - how awful for everyone involved. I hope that things settle down.

Sorry to hear about your difficult time with your family trips- mine all live abroad and DHs family are conspicuous by their absence!

We've had 3 weeks of wellness which must be some kind of record in our house! Fully expect it to all go downhill from here till Christmas!
With being well though comes toddler mayhem - emptying the soil from a plant pot over the floor, their toys and each other Grin

We've also been busy creating Christmas cards and decorations - everything is now liberally sprinkled with glitter.

Work has been manic I only work 2 days but definitely do more than my fair share at home too (unpaid) Sad

Hope you all have a good weekend.

triplets · 01/12/2012 22:52

Glad you popped in Chiger sounds as though you dont get a minute! Wasnt it cold today, been really stocking up on bird feeders etc. Poor Molly my cat was beside herself this afternoon, I emptied the bird bath and filled it up with bread and bird seed. About 10 magpies and half a dozen crows descended followed by at least 20 seagulls!!! All hell broke loose withe the racket they made, Molly was throwing herself at the window and chattering her teeth Xmas Grin
How can it be festive smiley time again..................seems to me time flies even when you arent enjoying yourself!!

bubby64 · 02/12/2012 19:15

Hi all. Our oil was delivered Friday lunchtime! We were so lucky, our usual supplier had another delivery in the village already booked, and they had enough room on board for us to have some as well. Only problem we had was that the pipe was drained and we had to prime the boiler again, luckily DH read up on how to do it, and managed it without us having to call in an expert, which saved us £50!
We have celebrated the boys birthday today instead of on Tuesday, as we thought (rightly) that we would never get them away from their presents. They LOVE them, Mike upstairs dumming as we speak, and James strumming away on his guitar. Grandad came and bought them a cake (a Thomas Tank engine one, DS's dont want their friends to knowXmas Grin)
We will decorate, do cards extra on Tuesday anyway, but the main present opening is out of the way, I have a special cake coming for them, I hope it turns out ok, and if so, I will post photos. Then its on to decorating for Christmas next weekendXmas Smile
Also, got my operation date, 16th January, so going to a pre-op physio appointment Tuesday, and normal Pre-op appointment next Monday. Now getting a bit nervous about the whole thing, as it is now becoming "real" IYSIM.
Trips - we daren't do bird feeders here, as the cats sit on the fench with their knives and forks at the ready if we do, its bad enough when our neighbours fill theirs.
