Godparents for twins

Hi, I'm conscious of keeping my twins individuality, want to avoid shared presents etc where possible. Would appreciate some thoughts on godparents. Did you have one set for your twins or more, or two (or more)?! Does it really matter? I have an older DS with different godparents, I may be over thinking things but worried if my twins have the same godparents (but different to their brother IYSWIM) might they be jealous? Hope that makes sense, appreciate your thoughts.

I mean jealous that they haven't each got their 'own' set of godparents like my older DS has.

Our twins have different god parents - 3 each - we figured the more people we had on board the more help we would get!!

Only my big 3 have been christened so far and they all have different godparents. The problem we have now is we have had a 2nd set of twins and would like to have different for those too but running out of close friends we trust!

One of my friends have the same set of godparents for all three children (all different ages). Might make life easier! We haven't thought about that yet as still waiting on the arrival of our twins :)

Feel like all 3 DC's should have the same or different. Problem is one of my DS1's godfathers is my brother and I have 2 brothers and want to ask the other one this time. Guess I'll have to come up with a couple of other people if I want them all to have different then.

My (girl) twins have one shared godmother (I am also godmother to all 3 of her children, including twins) and also each have a non-shared godmother and godfather. One godmother and godfather are a married couple, who live close and we see often and have a twin each which enables them to buy presents for both and to do join presents or similar presents where appropriate e.g. Last birthday they bought a sandpit to share plus smaller individual gifts and this birthday they bought different but similar doctors sets and dressing up outfits.

Mine are only 3 months so can't comment on how well it works as yet, but we went for the same Godparents for both twins (we also have a DS with diff ones). We went for that in the end because I remember my other siblings being jealous of me and my brother because we shared Godparents who sent us an advent calendar each year! So obviously sharing godparents was great for me and my bro (when treated with this once a year thing, lol), but my other siblings resented it somewhat! In other words we didn't want one twin to be lavished with gifts while the other wasn't, which could quite easily happen.

I was going to originally choose 2 GPs for them to share and then 1 or 2 of their own as well, but it was just too much hassle in the end.

I hope they don't mind sharing GPs but i think it won't matter because, after all, they share aunties and uncles, etc, and they don't affect individuality at all.

We have selected a couple (eg my brother and his wife) and my brother is god parent for one twin and his wife god parent for the other. That way they have different godparents but they should be treated to things in the same way (presents etc).

I think most people will do the same for both twins regardless of who they are GP to - but I've heard of occasions where one has been treated to something that the other hasn't and I didn't want to take the chance.

It depends, we have 3 god parents for each twin. My twin sister is godmother to both twins, and then each baby has 2 other god parents specific to them. So far (my twins are now 7) all the god parents (mainly relatives and close friends) have treated them equally irrespective of whether they're godparents to one or both.

My twin sister and I had different god parents and one of my godparents used to buy me things but not my sister (although I never knew about this). Anything that was precious, my Mum kept, anything that wasn't (such as a toy) she gave it to us to share. I only found this out when I was 18 and my mum gave me a beautiful christening bracelet that my godfather had given to me as a baby but she'd not let me have it as my sister didn't have one!

our Dt boys have 8, yes you heard it 8 godparents. 4 female 4 male. 3 being their aunts and uncle. we figured if we had one child they would have 4 god parents, so had 8 for the 2 of them. No god parents assigned to a twin. Just do whatever suits you and your family. x

dtds have shared god parents. This was for a few reasons: we struggled to think who else to ask so ended up with them having 2 godmothers and 2 godfathers each (same ones though), and one god mother (my closest friend) is also god mother to dd1. Dd1's other god parents are crap and forget her birthday so I would hate dtd1 to have good god parents and dtd2 to have rubbish ones (you don't know what they'll be like until after!).

I don't get the "no shared presents" rule as for christmas all 3 dc will be getting a rabbit between them. I really don't think it will affect their individuality. They also get presents each, but what's the point of 2 ride ons the same? When they are older it may be more of an issue but for their 2nd birthday I want to get them a wooden kitchen. All 3 will play with it. I make sure that they can put a couple of special toys on their beds that aren't for sharing and everything else is to share. Works for us and girls definitely have their own strong personalities.
