I got back from sonographer yesterday after having an early dating scan (no regular period since stopping bfeeding) and I found out i'm having TWINS!

They are identical and I think the term is MCDA? They share a placenta. To be honest I didn't take a lot else in!!! All I remember is they both have good heart beats and both measure 7+4 which does tie in with dates.

Ive scared myself silly by reading about risks on the internet and vanishing twin syndrome comes up a lot. What I wondered is - now i have 2 good heartbeats and both measuring the same, is the risk lower? I know its early days so i'm trying to not get excited but at the same time want to tell everyone!

These threads have been wonderfully enlightening by the way so thank you.

PS: This is second pregnancy, DD is 16 months old.

Lullabel, I have just posted in the ante-natal twins thread. I have just had MCDA twins. I don't know any stats or details about risks I am afraid as I avoided looking in to these things in any detail. The way I coped with the worry was just to listen to the health professionals involved in my care and lots of chatting on MN . AND NOT TO GOOGLE!! I know its hard, and there is always something to worry about. Hope to see you posting on the twins thread and hopefully chatting to other twin-mummies-to-be and those of us who have had our DTs will help.

Congratulations!! I have 10 month old MCDA twins. I think (and I may well be wrong!) That vanishing twin syndrome only happens with non identical twins. There are risks with MCDA twins but you will be closely monitored. The main thing is TTTS but if it happens, its treatable, we had it and had to have it trated with laser surgery but my girls are now thriving 10 month olds. There is a wealth of info on TAMBA of the non-scaremongering variety, would def reccomend joining.

Congratulations again, and try to relax and enjoy it!

Oh I remember being you :) I was on here asking the same questions and completely freaking out!!

It has gone by so so do quick and although it's stressful(worrying) and very hard work being pregnant with twins just try to relax and enjoy it as its an amazing experience!!

My identical girls are 5 months old and it is fantastic.

I was pregnant with dc4 which turned into dc4 and 5!!
A complete shock to us as dd was 4 months old at the time!!

Best advice would be, don't google you can drive your self mad!!! There are thins that can happen with any pregnancy but it doesn't mean it will happen to you, jut look after your self :)

Thank you very much for your replies both here and on the ante natal thread! We're away for the weekend hence sporadic replies but really appreciate your help and advice - my husband agrees with you all that I need to stop googling!!

I feel massive already and have already unearthed my old mat jeans. I don't know how I'm going to keep this secret for another 12 weeks!

I also swing wildly from starving to nauseas but apart from size I feel the same as first time round I think. I have so many questions for you all pros and I love looking at your photos thank you for sharing them.

I will be back home on Tuesday so will post more and take a look at more info on your profiles etc when not on iPhone!! Thank you xx
